quoting post I was thinking about how to make tactical combat a little more engaging, and here are just a few thoughts: 1) Add some sort of cover system. For instance, units in a tile with trees will have a defensive bonus. Ranged units blocked by terrain will have their hit chance reduced. 2) Use terrain elevation to confer bonuses. For instance, a unit on top of a hill will have increased attack

Metacritic user reviews are rather infamous because they're so easy to "review bomb" with unreasonably low scores which drag down the average. In some cases (for instance, Diablo 3), you'll have people registering dozens of times just to push a score down as low as possible. Rare cases like D3 or Dragon Age 2 deserve it
No, I don't think they do.

Years ago user reviews on the internet used to be worth something because people were generally reasonable about their criticism. These days they seem to be more about venting frustration in the most mean-spirited way possible at any product that dared to not meet their lofty expectations. Diablo 3 is the most interesting case study because here we have a game that is by all accounts fun, polished, and has received outstanding post-release support from the developer, yet the
I usually lurk. Rarely post. I spent last night and this evening playing this wonderful game. Truly amazing. Amazing. This game deserves to win game of the year.
I agree that it's a great game, but it's a little too niche and has a few too many rough spots yet to be considered for top honors. Maybe best strategy game of the year which tends to be a more wide open field, although there's a strong case to be

Just so you guys are expecting it, it would not surprise me in the least if Fallen Enchantress got trolled pretty hard at Metacritic by folks still bitter about War of Magic and have a grudge against Stardock. Even the mighty Blizzard is not immune from such trolling -- check out Metacritic's Diablo 3 user score, and it's one of the better games to be released this year. Oh, yeah, and Romney is going to win in a landslide. Just so you're expecting that, too. ;)

That said, Fallen Enchantress is certainly not "dumbed down", and especially not compared to War of Magic.
