OK the hosting part I wont even comment on if you know how to port forward and such. However, I definitely agree with you about killing the host. It is supposed to look for the next host able player and switch host over to them, and I can and do host fine. However every time I join a game and the host dies, the game dies...it tries to switch host over to me, heck it even goes from Migrating to OK, but it just stays there frozen with everyone reading OK and nothing working.

Does this kinda stuff work in ICO?
I play mostly 4-6 players. Average matches last 2-4 hours. Never had a match run under 2 hours.
I'm still having random ICO disconnects. My connection is fine its just that I'm playing a game, then it pauses to lag like is common, but it never stops. It either brings up the screen saying everyone is disconnected and that I'm "Migrating" and never changes, or if I host it just pops up a message saying disconnected from IC Online. I then hit login and bam I am back in ICO in less then a split second. The game only seems to wait for about 10 seconds before determining to drop me
I hear a lot of "Its a 4x game, so it should take awhile", when in reality its a mix of 4x and traditional strategy, so in trying to cater to both crowds it must address this concern. It needs a faster game speed meaning quicker build times, research times, lowering resource costs...and only slightly, unit movement and fights because too much on this ruins it.
The game runs great on Vista, I run two comps, one XP and one Vista, and I host on both. You did not mention it so the first thing I would do is what Monk said, connect directly to the modem to check if thats the issue.
Ive had some issues in longer games where I drop randomly. The player screen pops up and instantly says everyone else is disconnected, and that I am migrating...It sits there for a very long time until I just quit the game. When I am back in ICO chat (I am never truly losing my connection so its odd) all the other players are still in the game, and I was the only one who dropped.
What people don't realize is, outside MMORPG's and centralized server games where you are not really hosting, but are the first to join, like diablo 2, most games require this NAT configuration and firewall settings stuff. I keep hearing, "my other games dont require me to do this!", when in reality most multiplayer games on the market do require you to do this stuff to host games, and this is not going to change. Its not the games fault your connections will not go through, its the routers, a
As Limz pointed out, its generally a bad idea to try and take a squad of ships just to try and hurt someones economy. It takes about 2 minutes to destroy a single building with a small squad of LRM's, not to mention the time it took you just to get in range to start firing, so your opponent already has about a solid 5 minutes to respond to this. Now you have to take into account the cost of buildings to ships, which is extremely low. If you lose two ships, your raid was useless, and
This happens to me as well, sometimes the cap ships will just dissapear on death without their explosion. It is not however permanent like your case, its just sometimes they explode, sometimes they just go poof.
I dont know if this is actually possible in a patch but ive been having some problems with online. I tend to drop regularly and i dont believe its my interenet because ive seen alot of other members in the lobbies with the same status ( 8 games played 0 wins 0 losses) Whether this is a host problem, an individual computer problem, or just some growing pains with the online support i dont know but at the moment it is the only thing hampering my experience and im still
How about some Voice over IP built in feature in the future?
I know others posted a lot of these as well, but heres my list: 1. Options when making the game pertaining to players that leave prematurely. 2. Faster game play options. 3. Better phase lane control, also perhaps lock down anything more then 2 jumps from your front with a phase lane disrupter. 4. In game Galaxy Forge map downloading, perhaps a custom game tab in multi-player list to separate them. 5. Repair stacking. 6. I cannot verify this but please take a look at
I would love to see a faster and fastest game speed, very high resources, and more options like that to speed things up. Not to mention some smaller maps among the large player games. I love the game but I can not play it multiplayer most days as I simply cannot devote 3+ hours to a game in a single sitting.
Dont forget returning armada, I have not used it myself but was allied with someone who did and his force was massive and only kept growing, for free once you get it all up.
Not sure what you mean by random, but Razors Edge is my favorite map so far. 6 players, 20 planets, one star. Its more of a 3v3 map though, with two sides and a choke point in the middle.
Frigate spam in general is a much better strategy then lots of capitol ships, I agree particularly with LRM's as that is usually my main strategy, mass them and nobody really stands in the way...never seen someone use advanced tactics to beat it. I think cap ships need more love though, maybe a boost in hp or shields. Well balancing is the hardest thing to do in a strat game.
I run on a HD2300, slightly below the 8400 performance, and the game runs fine on medium. During big fights it will slow down, during huge fights it will bring your comp to its knees, so turn down to low if your going to have a huge battle. However, You can always zoom out and just watch the battle from icons and it will run fine if it comes to this. In short the game will run smooth 95% of the time. BTW Core 2 Duo T7100 (1.8ghz), 2.5gigs of ram. Your processor speed matt
The message is a false positive, probably related to NAT, and no matter what settings you change your always going through a NAT on a router. You will be fine with just 6112 open, nothing else, as DMZ is kind of extreme measures.
Yeah you are right about the unbalanced part but I hope thats not the reason its being delayed. A separate game tab for custom maps could be a good solution, so people know what they are getting themselves into before they join, or a way to see maps before you play, but that would require more because it currently does not work like that. My problem with it is like this, map designer for 6 players, 20-22 planets minimum, map I want to play with 6 players, about 12 planets. I designed
I understand that, but I thought besides bug fixes and balance changes, its something that would be very high on the "to do" list.
that's not going to happen for awhile yet.
Whys that? Getting random people in ICO to download my custom galaxies is not going to happen, so we are stuck with whats already in the game until this is implemented. I know I can upload them to the database, I already did that with a few, but telling people in the lobby to go download them and stick them in certain directories before joining...seriously it wont happen.
I noticed I cant host maps I make with Galaxy Forge, other players get an error telling them they don't have the map. The map file is all of 5 kilobytes, so it would take less then a second to transfer, and I heard this is going to be implemented in a patch, my question is: Will it be in the first patch? Reason I ask is because the game has no truly small, quick maps. The smallest two player maps is like 7 planets! The map I made is one planet, one buffer asteroid per player, aster
Not game related but...Vista is a pain in the ass in regards to folder permissions. I don't have access to half the files and folders in local settings/My documents, and I cannot even assign permissions to myself even with full admin status. Its annoying having all these directories and files that I am not allowed to touch because windows doesn't deem me smart enough to alter them. When I try to sort my start menu I constantly receive this "You don't have permission to move this" cra
