On larger maps, I adopt the scorched earth school of tactics. I use stars as my defense points, where I leave my "response fleet" stationed. On the star-system that I'm attacking, I colonize only planets that're easy to defend within a single choke-point, which will be heavily defended, and filled to the brim with Frigate Factories to make my reinforcements. The rest of the planets get trashed; thus forcing my opponents to waste their funds rebuilding. After destroyin
Dairuka
I bought it online. To paraphrase the Sex Pistols: Canadian Customs are Bullox.
You're also quantifying the difference wrong. The overall strength of the Vasari cruiser is not the average of the advantages, the product would be more appropriate. If a ship takes twice as much damage and does twice as much damage, it does not do twice as much damage before dying, it does four times as much. They are more appropriately about 23% more powerful than the TEC version based on the above. Being more expensive and taking up more fleet points are likewise multiplying factors
Rufus is certainly taking a lot of Flak for this thread. I guess he got his wish.
I don't think there's a need for the slight difference between the surrender and quit options. You quit, you lose. i agree with that but what of the people who got disconnection?
Allow the AI to take over, and allow for people to reconnect, ala Civilization 4. If a person doesn't reconnect within 10 minutes of leaving, or disconnecting they take a loss.
Could you kindly put the files into a big zip file and host it somewhere (such as rapidshare) so I don't have to download every file separately? If you could that would be a HUGE help!
If you ask me very very nicely, I'll do it, and host it on Total Gaming Files. ;)
With that said... I think in the past two weeks no less then six hosting sites have pimped their services here. Asides from our site none of the other sites are actively involved in the community. Moreover, as far as I can tell several of the pimps joined simply to promote their site and vanished again. That shit irritates the hell out me. This is so because many of us devote a lot of time to trying to build this community and we do it for the sake of the community and not as a
You're welcome, and happy editing.

You can always mod it in. Or wait for somebody to make a more advanced AI mod.
Okay latest game played. 3v3. Got out to my own galaxy escaped the one I was in and settled another star. had the whole place to myself. Built up a nice fleet with research etc. A little of every kind of frigate. The other guy. Had two TEC cap ships and 80 LRMs. My Illums I thought would help but they didnt do crap. So I ask the guy hey man did you build anything else or you just like LRMs he says yeah he built a few TEC planet bombarders?? forget t
I was pissed off when I got a Space Pony that did nothing, when I was really hoping for a Data Archive.
So are the races going to include: Tau'ri Goa'uld Jaffa Ori Tok'ra If so, it sounds like loads of fun.
1. I can't host any games(and don't tell me to open my ports,i've done that a hundred times) 2. I can't join someone else's games(some i can join)
This game uses Peer 2 Peer technology. So the same rules apply: You're behind a router and/or wireless router, and you've forgotten to create a static external IP for port forwarding. Everything else is just speculation, and or circumstance based. So I'm not even going to touch #3 to #5.
Part of the fun, is deducing a game's nuances. For some of us who prefer to play a game in an analytical manner; diving deep into statistics and theory are just as fun as playing the game itself. [link="http://roe.totalgamingnetwork.com/wiki/index.php/Category:Sins_of_a_Solar_Empire%2C_Ships"]Heres what I've got done so far.[/link] Although, since most people have begun to map out charts already, I've become more of an archivist, than anything else...
I've played a few games now of multiplayer. Usually 2v2. Basically 2 guys know the map already and know where all the resources are to pounce on. Then before you can even get out the gate because all your planets have fleets guarding them you have to take out they have captured 3 planets and 2 asteroids. On top of that they know where the metal and crystal are concentrated and go right for them.
Sounds like they just used a good Strategy on you. [quote
Overheating is the safest guess. Next time you're forced to Hard Reboot, go into your computer's BIOS, and check the hardware's temperature. If it's over 70 degrees on anything, you're in trouble. If thats not the case, then check your Power Unit, and make sure it's above 750 watts, because with a setup like yours, you're going to need an powerful power unit. Other than that, your hard lock ups could be caused by any number of things. You could have easily incorrectly
For managing battles, I use the number keys to group my unit types together. Auxiliary Fleets generally aren't Micro-managed, since I only use them if they have a huge advantage. (IE, Undefended planet, or they're a defense fleet, with planetary defenses behind them.) 1 - Colony Capital Ship 2 - Carrier Capital Ships (I love these things) 3 - Support Capital Ship 4 - Light Frigates 5 - Long Ranged Frigates 6 - Heavy Cruisers 7 - Siege Frigates 8 - Support/Com
Hey, this is pretty good. Nice job there Max! I was wondering if it'd be alright if I added the download link, as well as the release information to my Sins of a Solar Empire Wiki. It's kind of my goal to give modders a more permanent home for their work.
Very good job. It's absolutely beautiful, and very functional. Yeah, well, don't blame me except for the ugly parts, ok? I'm clueless on how to format the stuff right...
It's your fault. I don't know whats your fault yet, but it's your fault.
Of this entire thread. The only thing I can truly agree with is the need for Balanced Starts on Multiplayer.
The beauty of this game is that your whine about an unbeatable strategy, is being drowned out by thousands of other whiners whining about unbeatable strategies that contradict everything you've just said. You know your game is balanced, when nobody can agree on what is imbalanced.
Very good job. It's absolutely beautiful, and very functional.
Simple. Hit and run tactics, until their numbers are shrunken down to a more manageable level.
That's a good idea. v1.02 with some more typo fixes and reworded some ability descriptions. http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=p7xc_snd9Cc-6o2UwvPEWUg&gid=0 http://www.mediafire.com/?agw3d0wdllo I'm going to have to crop some of those charts to make them more printer friendly. At first I was trying to make each page fit, printed in landscape format, but after the damage types chart, ther
