@General_Failure I respectfully point out that you haven't the slightest idea what you are talking about.
Well I personally think General_Failure is generally right. It is well known that SupCom (a massively scaled RTS like Sins) makes marvelous use of 4 cores. And I disagree with what that guy says in the dual core thread. He's reiterating the same excuses I heard way back in late 2006, except back then dual-cores were relatively new. I have never read anything
Simply put its the best DPS upgrade for any weapon system in the game.
Yeah not to mention that later in the tree the Vasari get to increase missile damage by 20%, so you have the phase missile damage multiplied by 1.20 :P My conclusion is that the phase missile techs own while the pulse cannon techs are nearly worthless, and that is another reason missile frigates > skirmishers in general.
This shows that you are absolutely clueless. Repair ability repairs everything in radius of the ship. And fact is Skirantra carriers are the only cap worth getting as a vasari .The rest of your strat shwos that you havent played against any good players either.
Wow. Gee Tennessee I guess I'll build nothing but Skirantras now, lol! What he meant is that you never really have more than 1 ship taking hull damage at a time, so it will rarely repair more than one ship
so I made a list of what ships get squads and when, hope someone finds it useful EDIT: I don't know why it doesn't let me edit my original post, but anyways I found out that the Desolator gets a squadron at level 6, not level 5. All the other Vasari squadron info seems to be correct. I haven't tested the other races though.
1. Yes, they bypass. Shield mitigation is really dps reduction, it doesn't matter if shields are up or down.
Okay sorry but I want to be clear about this. I know they bypass shields. But when they bypass the shields, why exactly is that such a great thing?
Well there are some things that puzzle me and I don't know where else to ask, so here they are: 1. Phase Missiles and Shield Mitigation: People seem to think that the Vasari phase missile upgrades are really spectacular. They don't increase the damage directly, but in bypassing the shields, I gather that the phase missiles must avoid the shield mitigation penalty, and that is the (only) reason that the phase miniturization tech chain is so good (?) I had read somewhere else, however, that
ohhhhh so that is what "command points" means! Thanks! :)
I just think it's strange that people debate about which capital ship to get first, but no one seems to know what levels / how many squadrons they get :P I have only played vasari but AFAIK: -battleship (debestator) gets one at level 3 and possibly one or more later (?) -the carrier (skimatra or whatever) starts with 2 but gets many more with levels -the colony ship gets a squadron immediately and gets at least one more later, so that's another reason to use it on large maps
Well right now I don't think quad-core is all that useful. It is for certain applications, but not for me. That's why I don't own one. But that is the direction the cpu industry is moving. Everyone has known this for years, so I am a bit confused why games released in 2008 are still essentially single-threaded. And it's not just 'uber high end'. I saw the Q6600 on sale for $200 a little while ago. AMD has their quad core phenoms too, and they're not ridiculously expensive (they
Could someone direct me to this information: At what levels do capital ships gain new squadrons? It seems like important information, but I can't find it anywhere. I know some capital ships gain more than one squadron at more than one level (colony ship, carrier), is it the same for all races? Do the battleship/dreadnaughts ever get more than one squad? Edit: Okay so according to the TGN website link, here is a list of all capital ships and what levels they receive squad
Anyway everyone can rest assured that Intel is working on a new generation of chips that will be happily single core again. This whole multi-thing is just a stepping stone.
I have heard nothing of this. I know Nehalem is rumored to come in dual, quad and octo-core versions, and supports a new version of hyperthreading that results in up to 16 threads. Everything I have heard from the hardware world tells me that the future of cpus is multicore, at least for the
I have a regular pc (E6700, and an now old 1650xt), and have never experienced problems with sins performance. I have been through massive battles, and i wasn't the one lagging.
Hmm that's funny because I just finished a game that lagged pretty hard when I fought two ai fleets with 2300 support :P The framerate was dipping pretty badly, to the point where it affected gameplay. I couldn't select things or issue orders as quickly. I assume it's the cpu and
So all it does is load some textures? Since it is now clear that quad core will be the standard within a couple years, and since dual core cpus have been the standard for some time now, it is puzzling to me how a cpu-intensive game released in 2008 would not be at least dual-core optimized. No one buys single-core cpus anymore today, so why are games still being developed that use only half of the hardware? The developers of flight sim x, which was released in late 2006, explai
you can set the other ai players to be on your team, you will instantly win the game but you can click "keep playing" and explore the tech tree and the units and no one will attack you :)
