I agree. The user should have the option of ejecting back to the Windows Desktop in a fast, seamless manner. I can think of a few reasons to want to do that : they are all related to wives, girlfriends, children, and bosses.

I'm a slow-pace, "Grand Strategy" adept. I will be happy when you fast & furious, frantic frenzy crazies move on to StarCraft 2. (I thank Ironclad profusely for the slow-speed option.)
Did you have Stardock's "Smart Exception" running? Your description looks like a SE message. If so, it would explain why the crash's log is not located in an Ironclad directory. Sorry, though : I don't remember where the Stardock SE crash-logs are located.
1. Launched Stardock Central 2. Was asked to update SINS : I refused (following Yarlen's warning) 3. Uninstalled SINS (following Yarlen's advice) 4. Downloaded the new build at 800 kb/sec (Wow! Thanks to Stardocks's server) 5. Launched the new build and defined personal settings : success ! Thanks to Ironclad and Stardock : a very seamless update process.
I too , have tried the roleplaying role of controlling only a modest amount of planets, being humble but being technologically wise and promoting peace with my neighbouring allies. I tried to manage my race like as if they were vulcans. Not overzealous in their expansion , peaceful , but gaining respect through high technology and good economy. But it just doenst work like that in Sins because of the RTS element and because winning the game me
Thanks, Ron Lugge : I might follow your advice, after some more research on the matter. I NEVER have malware in my PC : I manage a very clean system (and being "skeptical and cautious" helps!). Think of it, one thing comes to mind. I have visited quite a few game-forums, where tech advice is given by experienced users, and before having read the info on this thread, I had NEVER read any advice recommending the update of chipset-drivers. I have seen a lot of various troubleshoot
I second your motion!
I wasn't suggesting a BIOS flash. Chipset drivers are kernel-mode device drivers, much like your video card driver from NVidia. Microsoft's Update does not always offer the very latest chipset drivers through Windows Update -- exactly like they don't offer the latest Nvidia drivers. Would you justify not updating your Nvidia drivers because Microsoft isn't offering them through Windows Update? -- Didn't think so. If nothing else, you could see a
In my previous post (reply #28), I wrote that : I would prefer it if SSE held a middle road between GalCiv 2 and Homeworld 2. I stated that before having read Blair Fraser's very recent IGN interview. It seems that his basic design philosophy for SSE favours my own preference. I quote Blair Fraser : We slowed the pace of the real-time play down from what people are used to in twitch RTS games -- even with
[...] But I think that it is important to restate that there is something that is a bit off in the timing of the game. This has a very turn-based feel to it and I hope to see the pacing adjusted so that it falls more in alignment with what is expected out of an RTS. [...] You may be right, but then, it is a question of taste. I'm much more a space-empire TBS gamer (of the GalCiv 2 type). Consequently, I do not mind if SSE does not
Sorry, Ron Lugge, I am not a professional beta-tester but a paying customer (and amateur) participating in a beta : not quite the same thing ! I will not mess around with my PC when it works "flawlessly" with each and every other program -- besides a "beta" code ! It's asking too much...of a paying customer. Anyway, I am not in the least complaining. I have had many hours of crash-free gameplay (or if you prefer : beta-testing). Perhaps the three July update
I consider myself to be a big 4E genre player. I play them for considerable amounts of time and I think i got a fair taste of what its all about. What i'm struggling with is what they [= Ironclad and Stardock?] are screwing up that past games already screwed up on in the first place! You sound like the Sakkra ambassador, in MoO 1 and 2, just when he was about to order me to give away one of my planet
Looks like were going to need more toilet paper! No problem for you guys in British Columbia : so many trees to chop over there ! Also not a problem for us here, in Québec.
So far the massive scale of the game is impressive, but a giant pile of poo, is still a pile of poo , so more still needs be added.[...] It's off to a great start, it just needs to be fine tuned now . A valid analysis (agree or not) can be found in the original post, where I have put brackets to make the quote shorter. It is too bad that the author's rational analysis was preceded by his weird
One week later (22 July) : Since the three July update & fixes (of two weeks ago), no more freeze-crashes...yet. I say "yet" because I have not had the time to playtest on a daily basis : lots of other games + great books to process. I will report here again, on this thread's issue.
Sins is Ironclad's first game as a company, but the team has worked on many other high-profile titles at other companies. It shows! For a beta that is about 6 months from the finished gold-master version, it already looks & plays great.
I've been a customer of Stardock since the beginning of the GalCiv 1 beta, and I cannot conceive of one single negative comment to express concerning Stardock. Also, its business model of deeply involving the customers in a long, beta development-and-testing process is "eventual" (in Stephen King parlance*). In what concerns Ironclad, I only know about it since I downloaded its beta 2, on 21 June. I was then extremely impressed that the state of the beta, about 7 months before the final
J'adore manger des bebes! Thats all I remember from French class lol. I'm a francophone Canadian, and I perceive that there are only 2 plausible meanings for your "J'adore manger des bébés" : 1. "I adore to eat infant children" (Are you an ogre?) ; 2. "I adore to eat cute girls" (In French, "bébé" can also mean "babe"). This thread is taking a weird direction. Reply #14 would be censored by a forum moderator if he realized wha
Also, many games have a function, in the save and/or load menu(s), which can DELETE saves. Why not implement that? For now, after a game session, I go into the Ironclad save-folder and delete as many saves as I want.
It turns out that the stuttering/choppy sound is just the side effect of a much more serious problem. My game ran very slowly and every now and then it would completely freeze for a few seconds. I, also, have experienced audio stuttering with total game-freeze on 5 occasions. In my case, I have WinXP and a series 6 videocard (GF 6800). Such a phenomenon never occurs in my other games. I'm not suggesting that my problem is iden
Blair works at Ironclad. Ironclad is on the West coast. Ironclad's corporate website states that "Ironclad Games is located in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada." That's odd! I live in awesome* Montréal, Québec : I have no idea where British Columbia & Vancouver are located ! * For Stephen King fans : "eventual"
1. OK, I learned something here. I believed that only a BIOS flash could update the chipset. I will look into that, following your procedural advice. But : my OS and games run fine (except for a few crashes in the Sins Beta)-- why would I then risk an update of the chipset? Just to make a beta-program run without crashes?! "If it ain't broke..." 2. Well : "flawless efficency" ... except in the case of the Sins Beta, of course! I'm sorry to say that the Sins Beta is not a big deal in my
Reply to Allquixotic : 1. I was using the latest official nVidia drivers of May 2007 (not their flawed June beta-driver). I will not revert back to older driver versions to test a beta, when ALL my other games do not freeze-crash as described above! 2. My Windows XP is always up-to-date. 3. I won't venture into a BIOS flash to test a beta when ALL my other games (and my Windows programs) function to a 99.9% perfection (excepting the bugs inherent to most games a
Morning of 15 July : Sorry if I have not answered earlier : I had not noticed this thread. I was alerted to it by a PM. Thanks for regrouping my relevant posts concerning that single issue : I had taken some time and trouble to compose them with precise care. I have been busy with other things since the release of the 2 hot fixes, during the week of 9 July : I have not yet found the time to come back to SSE. Since you seem interested by a follow-up, I will pu
What's new with this 0.76(b).018 version, which became available today, on 12 July ?
