[quote]before the game even starts, during the pregame lag, I buy 100 crs, sell 100 metal, upgrade civ infra, build a cap factory with one builder, set the other builder to the crystal extractor, and cue the other two metal extractors, and build 2 scouts. In virtually 5 seconds I've effectively spent all of my starting game income. I find that this sets me up for exploration, gets my cap ship out as soon as possible for expansion, and helps set up my economy with the extractors and the planet up

well, it seems a pretty inexpensive way to keep a player busy, the AI i was fighting against was throwing tons of units at me, mostly assault frigs and carriers so it wasnt too bad but there were a helluva lot of em, guess paying a bit of crystal and such to get good relations is pretty inexpensive if you can get a whole other navy to fight for you, i gotta try that in my next game

i just finished a very fun FFA game, was 6 people, 2 left soon after the game started so we had 2 ai floating around. about midway through the game i noticed both ai were focused solely on me, ignoring each other and everything else, it wasnt too big a deal, i lost a couple outlying asteroids but nothing serious, and my cap ships were getting good xp, however, while i was defending my edges against one particularly large attack i suddenly get a huge fleet from one of the players flying

[quote]on the same note, I was playing a single player game and noticed one of my AI enemies doing something pretty crafty. My hangars were consistantly killing his scouts, so after probably the 3rd scout that was killed, he started sending flak frigates to scout my planets. It may have been a more expensive option, but his "scouting" flaks survived and he weakened several of my planets defenses by destroying their fighter squadrons. It was some nice adaptability that I wasnt expecting from the

yea i understand, HC spamming was just another strategy i was trying, i've been going through a number of different ones so i can keep them in mind for different situations, depending on their effectiveness. as far as HC's i dont usually spam them anymore except in certain team games, not quite as effective as other strategies.

as mentioned before fighters are the best way as they are the only ones who can outspeed scouts. but just 1 or 2 sqaudrens is usually not enough. phase jump inhibiters are usually too expensive in resources and slots.

correct, tec have to spend much less to get trading posts. they save the cost of buying 1 civic lab (and the logistical slots that a 3rd one would take up) AND they only have to pay for a tech 2 research rather than a tech 3. saving money on upgrades for advent is nice but unless you're taking tons of planets at the start i think tec actually have the advantage. and with vasari, half the maps i play on dont even have neutral mines (although it's a really nice bonus if they do)

i tend to start with the mothership as i can immediately start capping asteroids and wewaker planets just minutes into the game. once it upgrades the shield regen is quite awsome in fleet combat, not as effective if your opponent is focus firing on one ship at a time but when the fire is spread out it makes your fleet increadibly resilient. malic is nice too but it is a really short duration and it doesnt seem quite as worth the energy as shield regen, unless you're gonna pop off a cleansing b

ok, thanks, is there any particular race that benefits the most from having lots of HC's? i noticed that the vasari enforcers have to tech much higher to get their weapons fully upgraded than either the tech or advent. vasari ships as a whole become really expensive, but when built up they're the toughest things out there.

ok, i've been experimenting with a variety of tactics, and one of the ones i have been recently trying is the HC spam. ive been doing it with vasari so far as they have the strongest HC's but i'll try the other races as well. basically i build all your resource extractors and a capital ship factory right off the bat. i then build a space whale (colony ship) which i send off to grab the closest and weakest defended asteroid or planet that my scouts have found. i th

i would put the defense platforms near my other structures, if you stick em out in the middle of nowhere the enemy can just go around them, hangers i try to just put them in the safest spot possible (near defense platforms and repair bays usually).

fighters good against scouts, long range attack ships, bombers and siege fighters. bombers good against basic assault ship and cruisers and capital ships and structures. so, depending what you are up against, you choice can vary. if they are lrm spamming i tend to go fighters as they do 200% more damage vrs light armor and they are faster response. if they are spamming assault ships i go bombers and late game i almost always go pure bombers (at least in my fleet) because as said abov

hello, got the game a few days ago and have been having a lot of fun with it, however i'm having a hard time comparing the tech trees of the different races as well as checking out all the different capital ships and their abilities. the manual gives very little info on the capital ships and no info on the tech trees, the only way ive been able to find out anything is to start a game and just spend time browseing through stuff, however it is annoying to have to build all the capital s
