I like the idea of this generally, however I hope they do not shoot themselvs in the foot with this. For example, look at #1
Gamers shall have the right to return games that don’t work with their computers for a full refund.
Now, this is greate and all - however, I read #8:
Gamers shall have the right to not be treated as potential criminals by developers or publishers.
Now, I am going to go out

Interesting, I suppose - too bad it has NOTHING to do with this game... It was not even posted first here, so why did it take so long? Sit here waiting for news on Sins and instead get news for a game I am prob not even going to get (Other priorities, maybe will get it some other time, but I have other games to get first)... Don't get me wrong, I am sure it will be a great game, and I hope it sells good - but yea...
I was not refering to the star/planet count, I was referring to the slider for map size. I made a 5 star 25 planet, and experimented with the slider to put some space between the stars...
I have played on many different sizes of maps - it is / was not that. I had never had this problem before on 1.03 (Did not even play the game pre 1.03). The problem, upon further investigation, I have found it could have been several factors coming into play.

Yes, as I stated in my first post I disabled everything I don't need (This basically means everything the OS does not need to run -except AIM/MSN/Skype-). Defraged earlier (As stated in the second post :p) and it had no noticeable effect. And I don't see why aim/msn/skype would cause this, it ran fine with them running.
Have you tried turning bloom off?
Yes, I turned it off before this problem even (To reduce some of the lag on large games vs the 10 unfair AI). Edit: I don't see why that would be a problem though? I played the game fine with 10AI on max, with a ton of units (Just some FPS lag, nothing like this).

Anyone? Still having the problem, and its screwing up my placement of stuff (And generally making the game unpleasant).
I ran into similar symptoms when I changes the Map Size slider on the custom maps. Sliding it back to the small end restored playability on a specific map I was having issues with.
Well, the odd thing is, I was playing on a 60 - 70 planet 1 star map if I recall (With 10 unfair AI teamed against me, and pirates), and now I cant even play on a 30 - 40 2 star map (I think it is. The map name is Gateway) with 6 unfair AI and no pirates against me. I really see no via

For some, unknown to me, reason, my game has started stuttering. I ran it fine since I got it until about 2 days ago, and it started stuttering (To make sure I have the right word for it: The game will lock up / lag every now and then for a second or so). I have turned down the graphics settings, turned off some background texture thing (Was suggested in another post - which I can't seem to find now due to my forum page numbers being gone...). I used to play the game fine with max graphics setti
Just as a datapoint:I've used Vista64 with RAM totals ranging from 2GB, 3GB, 4GB, and 8GB.4GB will do you just fine for any game you might run. 3, actually, does fine. When I downgraded to 2GB, I definitely noticed a difference, but the change from 4GB->8GB has been about nil.I run games from about 3 years back until now, and have never had a problem running on Vista x64, and Steam works fine as well. I can't say for MS Office, but OpenOffice doesn't have a problem. If MS Office has a

Yea, honestly problems like this, that are so obviously not working correctly, is making me wonder if the patches even go through a QA department... The only time ive had consistent surrendering was when I had the massive fleet. I refined that and just made it pure damage with less ship, and more ship HP (On my site). None of the AI have yet to surrender (Well, one might have 2 games ago - and I stress might because it did not tell me if he surrendered or not, as with Bhruic I noticed o
I've played a few games with the AI since the latest patch but none of my opponents have surrendered to me before nuking each and every one of thier planets. In short, i haven't yet seen a difference in this reguard from the previous patch. And when playing against multiple AI opponents, if you beat one down to the point where they surrender shouldn't you then immediatly acqurie all of thier remaining planets?Has anyone out there had experiences with the AI surrendering before they a

Bump... still having the problem, anyone else have any ideas? Edit: Well... I have found the problem... 5) AI will surrender if situation is hopeless rather than drag the game out. With my mod im working on (Not for release, just getting used to modding it, and it was all I could think of to do for now), I have a ton of ships and the AI would most likely not win. Now to find out how to deactivate that...

Happened again, tried to watch the replay but the game crashed... There were no pirates to kill them this time, though. Edit: Alright, im going to try on a map where the AI can actually get to me without having to research something (Wormholes / Star systems). Edit: alright, I tried it on a 10 player map with all hard AI and me, and it happened again late game. Will the AI surrender if the AI "feels" it can't / won't win?

11 Replies 7,060 Views

Yea, im starting up a game now to see what happens (On my custom map). edit: It's possible pirates could have killed the AI on my generated map (2x star system one) - I had the neut colonies up about half way / 75%, plus the pirates were launching attacks on everyone it seems (Though, no replay was saved so I cant be sure).

It seems to, I have not played all that many games though due to it - I can try it a few more times and see. To start in different systems, all I really did was make a 2 player map with 2 stars, though it made it 4 players (2/star system apparently), and stuck the AI in the 4th team slot, and me in the first (Seems to work every time). Though, it should be noted, I can't confirm they are in another star system, however after 30min to an hour of casually taking planets I did not
I haven't played 1v1 so I can't say I've seen this happen, nor heard about it. I know of various ways to get the win screen right when the map loads, but not in the middle of the game
Yea, its odd. I thought I remembered seeing a post about it before, but I spent an hour or so searching for it but could not find it.
The only thing I can think of is AI surrendering after being wiped out by other AIs?Are you playing 1v1?
Aye, 1v1 - only other AI on the generated map was pirates, but on the custom one there were no pirates to kill them - only me and the AI.

Maybe I am just being a nub here, not fully knowing the game mechanics and all, but is there a reason why AI - out of nowhere (As far as I can tell) - loses and I win, when on a map where me and the AI are either separated by a star systems or a wormhole (The one where we were separated by stars systems was generated ingame by me, and the wormhole was a single star made by me in galaxy forge) (It may do it on others but i have not tried). I will literally be playing, have no t even fought

Whenever I try to play on a map I created in Galaxy Forge, it sticks me in the defeated screen. Before anyone asks/says to do this: 1) I have changed the versionnumber to 1 (Else it wont show up) 2) I have stuck it in the C:\Sins of a solar empire\Galaxy folder (I dont install my games to program files on my main HDD). 3) The 2 players do have ownership of the planets. Is there anything else im supposed to do? Thanks.

I changed the version number to 1, and stuck the map in /sins of a solar empire/Galaxy however when I play the game it takes me directly to the defeat screen still, anyone know how to fix this / what else might be wrong? Thanks.

I have the same problem (OPs problem), except I made my map with the latest galaxyforge, wich I am guessing works with 1.03 since the versionnumber was already 1 on the .galaxy file), the map is also in /sins of a solar empire/galaxy folder. Yet I can not find it in the single player -> New game. Edit: nevermind.. Seems I opened the wrong map in notepad.
Thank you Annatar. And Abisha, I will go to Hell before I switch to Vista. You are exceptionally deluded if you think Vista is the key to the future. I have heard no good comments about it since its release, and a nion unlimited list of problems that have been cause by, or are directly related to, Vista. I guess about a year before they get it into working order, until then, I'll stick to "Ol' Faithful" here, XP. *Strokes Computer lovingly and whispers silently to it*
<br
