Good gods, where do you guys find the time to play all those?! My list: Sins of a Solar Empire Yep, that's it. I'm totally new to this genre of games.
Coelocanth
Ivan Vorpatril: funny you posted that. I was just going to throw in a character from Lois McMaster Bujold's books as well. *edit* Manii: That particular series by Julian May is in my list of all-time favorites. Some really great characters in there, and a pretty cool story as well.
But what I've been unable to wrap my head around concerning evolution is the origin of species. I heard a biologist once talk about something called irreducible complexity- the idea that a body part, such as the eye in humans and animals, is so complex that were even a single, small part of it to be taken away it would be rendered entirely useless. It makes me wonder how something like that could evolve. No mutation ever witnessed has yielded such complex and successful results, nor could
What did you find made no sense about MotB?
Ron, try: http://www.team-gizka.org/index.html
Okay, a few more: 1) Case 2) The Shrike 3) Phssthpok
Ahhhh, yes, Slippery Jim: The Stainless Steel Rat. Hope Hubris: Piers Anthony's Bio of a Space Tyrant (man, I haven't read those since they were first published. That's a looooooong time ago!) I should know Kinnison, but can't for the life of me dredge that one up. No idea on Cletus.
Polgara: Eddings' Belgariad/Malloreon series' (Can't recall if she appeared in other books or not) Compson's World: don't know. Andelain: Donaldson's Covenant series. Morn Hyland: Donaldson again, from the Gap series (I think that's what it was called). How about Dr. Alkad Mzu?
David Bowman: 2001:A Space Odyssey.
Just a note: You do have to maintain possession of the planet to keep the artifact's benefits though.
Well, I tried that save out and can say there's definitely something going on with it. It stuttered and hesitated all over the place, whether I was zoomed in or out. As a point of interest, I just completed a large 5 star map with well over 100 planets and vs 9 AI (medium difficulty, FFA). I had absolutely no problems with it. Nor have I had any problems with any other of the Sins games I've played yet. So it came as quite a surprise to see this one stutter like it did. Very odd.
I don't think they actually go into the hangar defenses. I think they just take a position alongside it.
Sorry for the late reply JamesP81. It was FFA. I just finished. Total playing time was 18 1/2 hours. Great fun. After I got the Victory screen, I continued on and took on the pirate base. Just let everything go and zoomed in to watch the action up close. Very, very cool.
I just finished a 5 star map vs 9 AI (don't know how many planets, but it was well over 100). Took me 18 1/2 hours. I, too, have seldom been this addicted to a game. I've been up late for 4 nights running and I desperately need sleep. So, it's off to get some Z's. And yeah, I didn't have a problem with the AI running away unless they were hopelessly outnumbered.
You want to have both resources as scarce? I'm not sure I see the advantage, other than to really slow down the game, since you'd be sitting around a lot waiting for both resources to build up enough to research/build. You really wouldn't have to sit and think about colonizing a world based on what resource is available in that scenario: you'd take everything you can find and turn any extra into cash to buy what you don't have. Same as now, but as I said above, it would only serv
I'm still learning as I'm quite new to this type of game, but it seems from the amount I've played so far that many of these decisions are dependent on your situation, and that can only be determined through scouting. For example, as futurehermit noted, you may get on a map where the closest worlds to your own are volcanics. It would therefore be foolish not to research volcanic exploitation (or whatever the other techs call it - I've played only TEC so far). Otherwise, you're passing up sources
Update: almost finished this particular map. I've conquered 4 stars and am working my way through the planets of the final star. The last remaining AI is putting up some resistance (seems they don't want to go without a fight - go figure. It avails them not: they will be assimilated!) Anyway, no fleets have passed through the wormholes, only scout craft. I've been doing as suggested and just upgrading planets near the wormholes with defenses and it's working out fine. In fact, I
The game is a top seller.
*edit* Blast! Double post. My post-fu is weak!
Coel I got like the first 2 asteroids under control and started aiming to get more logistics slots,
In this situation, where you're just at the very early stages, I wouldn't worry about upgrading the logistics slots on the asteroids. Just make sure you upgrade the population infrastructure so these asteroids/planets are making money and not losing it. A bit later on, you can worry about upgrading logistics slots to drop whatever extra structures in there that you want (
HM: really? You think it's worth imeediately spending the money, metal, and crystal to build 4 civic labs, research orbital refineries, and then build an orbital refinery right away*? I'm not trying to be argumentative. As I said, I'm new to this type of game, but it seems to me that's a pretty big cost for marginal benefit when you could take those resources and put them elsewhere. After you've got your economy going a bit, then I can see it being worth it. *I gathered from redwing's p
Yes, build a cap ship first thing. There are conflicting views on which one, but most seem to recommend the colonizing ship, and that's the one I choose. (Note: I've only played 4 games, all as TEC so far). The advantage is, the capital ship can take a lot of punishment without a lot of backup early on, when the number of enemies you meet is small. As well, it will gain experience in every battle and you'll get a coupe levels pretty quickly. Once you've built the cap ship, you can consi
Yeah, I think the_Monk has the right of it. While there are some that are probably unfairly treated harshly, many more just can't be bothered searching for the info before posting (I haven't been on these boards for long, but it seems every second day someone is asking how to take control of neutral asteroids - and the_monk has an excellent guide stickied in the technical forum on how to see/connect-to/host servers and yet time and again people start a thread asking how to do it). So ye
If you're playing TEC, it's in the civilian research tree under the Engineering section. Middle section, second icon (first is Improved Arid Colonies) called Volcanic Exploitation.

I am sorry that God doesn't fit your explanation, for it is such a simple, believable answer.
Okay, one last post: In order to explain complexity, you're postulating the existence of something even more complex. That's neither simple nor believable.
