First of all, I am sorry for any children you may or may have in the future. Every one should always have some kind of fun in there lives, you should not be able to block anothers enjoyment(not including mass murders and rapists and the sort).
My children are very happy. But thanks for the concern. Sarcasm aside, you have every right to enjoy yourself, but it doesn't give you the right to pirate software. If you're engaged in an activity that's wrong or illegal

So you think you should get the benefit of that movie/game/entertainment first and then decide if it's worth paying for? I don't give a crap about potential lost sales. The fact of the matter is you played the game. Whether you liked it or not is immaterial, since you didn't pay for the right to play it in the first place. If you want to 'test' the game, then go to a friend's place and try it. Or try a demo. Or do some research and see if it looks like it's worth buying. I'm amazed at the ration
i diserve to play games as much as the next guy,
Wrong. Playing games is not a 'right'. If you can't afford it, you shouldn't be playing it. This is exactly the kind of attitude that causes all the bloody problems in the first place. If you can't afford video games, then get a different hobby that you can afford. Or try to get a job to pay for your leisure activity of choice.
piracy is to blame for games like this being big, if it was not pirated the sal
Aye, I "test drive" movies all the time by renting them. (and board games by loaning them from the local library) Unfortunately that's impossible to do with pc games, and most "demos" are stripped of all the interesting and unique features, or have only 20 minutes or so of game play, hardly enough to tell if it's any good or not.
Not quite what I meant by test driving, but I see what you're saying. What I meant was do you get to test drive a movie when it's first release
Many Linux users are (edit: meaning tainted against Windows). But it goes both ways. Just look at this thread as an example. All it takes is for someone to mention Linux in most forums and the flames start. I'm not a big fan of Windows, but I know how to run a clean system and I use it for gaming because I pretty much have to. But I'd prefer to do it all on Linux if given the choice. So, I still don't think it hurts to gives the developers of games a heads up that there are people out there that
I figured the reason was because most of the people that use linux don't play games on it.
It's a bit of a Catch-22 though. They don't play games because there are so few Linux ports - and there are few Linux ports because people don't play games on Linux (or that's the perception many people have). If all new games were available for Linux, I wouldn't have Windows on my rig at all.
Because if you can use Linux, then chances are you use Windows for everyth
Yeah, it sucks. Linux is great/better for pretty much everything but games. Games are pretty much the only reason I still have Windows on my box. I use Ubuntu for everything else. Ah well, maybe someday things will change. But really, the OP is suffering a delusion if he thinks the measure of whether or not a game is good is if it also has a Linux port.
Seriously, I'm a big fan of Linux, but does it make sense for game developers to spend time and money developing for a platform that holds around 2% of the market share? I wish it were otherwise, but it's not.
No, I didn't mean to imply you should go in-depth, but if you do just as you describe (general guidelines), then the onus is on the noob to play appropriately. And yes, I agree on the research. I've not played on-line yet, as I know I'd be one of those frustrating noobs, so I want to get a handle on the three races and some strategies before joining a game and screwing everything up for someone else. So I'm reading these forums and playing different single player game setups. I've not g
Does it lag right from the start? And how many AI players in the game? I'll fire one up tonight and see what happens, although I just played a 5 star map with 3 AI opponents and around 40 to 50 planets and had no issues. (XP SP2, E6750, 8800 GT, 2 GB RAM at 4-5-4-11. Both CPU and RAM are overclocked).
To be fair, he said he 'wants to ask them to leave', not that he does so. Drex, do you tell them what you think they should be doing or just give them a few tips on what you expect them to do (not in-depth, but just overall strategy)? That seems to me to be the best solution when playing with a noob or noobs.
What I'm trying to say is you get to test drive a car, people spend ages viewing houses to find the right one for them, but with games we have to go on reviews, screenshots and limited demos.
Why do people insist on comparing a ~$50 game purchase to a several tens-of-thousands or hundreds-of-thousands of dollars car or house purchase? Do you get to 'test drive' a board game? A movie?
Possibly another incarnation of minidump or something similar?
What's your budget? If you can afford, I'd also suggest a full ugpgrade path. You can put together a good system for a very reasonable price now.
Aye, get build yourself some broadcast centers (or if you're playing other than TEC, whatever the equivalent is), or if the problem is the enemy's culture is too strong, you'll need to take out their nearby broadcast centers.
@Coel My point is people do rationalize that piracy is not stealing (with good reason), but then they go ahead and use that as the end-all for it being WRONG. now if you concede the point that its not stealing, and go on to define it as a different wrong, the majority of rationalizers will concede the point that its wrong and stop. atleast thats my guess about the matter.
I have my doubts about that, but anything is possible. It's in the keybindings (I remapped it from the default Pause key to the Space bar). Fleet Supply: to increase your fleet, you need to hit your Research button and go into the Fleet Logistics tab. Fleet supply is the lower section. To oncrease capital ship crews is in the upper section. Pirates inactive is in the Game Options button (appears at the bottom of the screen when you choose a new game or load a saved game). Don't have an answer for the planets, unless you ha
Just a comment on the 'recommended' and 'minimal' requirements: I think it does a disservice to simply state it as something like '2.0 GHz dual core processor', since it leads to many situations like this. The architecture of the chip has far more to do with its performance than its GHz rating. A dual core Pentium D chip isn't nearly as powerful or efficient as a 'slower' clocked C2D, for example. This leads many people to just look at their chip and say "Well, mine has more GHz, so it's definit
Retro, good point. I stand corrected. :)
Memory leak is exactly what I thought while reading through this and other threads. Not that I'm an expert, but I've seen this type of behavior reported before in other games and it turned out to be a memory leak causing the problems.
i know for a fact that the more ports at one planet equals more income at that planet ive done this after i had a victory and continued playing. I played around with the trade ports and matter processor, the number of ports makes a diff the number of MP dont... not sure about the distance
That stands to reason. If each trade port generates x amount of income, then 3 trade ports will generate 3x income. I'd assume if they're stationed at a specific planet, then they count
Ah, but 'optimal' in this case is the route that gets your trade ships visiting the most ports without backtracking.
The real issue is about players who are unwilling to listen to advice or try to learn how to play.
This is key. I admit I was put off by the thread's title and since I'm a complete noob at this type of game, the title of the thread itself initially made me think "Uh oh, guess I'm not going to check out on-line play if this is what everyone's like". After reading the thread though, I have to say the OP has a point (although I think it may leave room to be express
I updated with the standalone and it still won't let me scroll while paused.
That's how I understand it to work as well: your longest chain determines the amount of income from trade ports, and that's what each trade port generates, regardless of whether it's in the chain or not.
