If we're talking every ship in the game, I'm going with the Kol. Never have I seen a unit get hit so hard and still live to kill every ship in the gravity well ten times over, so to speak. If we're just talking cruisers/frigates, I'd say the Cielo. It looks kind of cool and I love its support abilities.

Opinions are opinions. No one is unbiased. That being said, I'm biased towards the TEC. Hate me if you must, but "UNLEASH MY POWER!!" just does not sound like a ship's captain.
I've noticed this, too. Quite the odd cargo ships we've got flyin' around our planets, don't we?
Another thing to note for diplomacy is that the TEC get a research option which improves 25% happiness rewards to 32% and their associated penalties to 12%, I think it was. Trade alliances usually come in around 25%, cease fires at 50%, and peace treaties at 75%. I'm not really sure on the vision agreements, but they're normally somewhere around peace treaty levels. Keep note that the AI will both accept and offer said agreements at those levels, regardless of whether you've locked

The pirate threat level is normally based on bounty + how powerful you are. For instance, let's say you somehow start the game with an entire fleet. You'll likely be at Severe before anything really happens.
King of the Hill-themed maps would be nice to see, too. Instead of just "hold X kind of planets for Y minutes", there'd be an uncolonizable designated as "the Hill". You hold the Hill by keeping a capital ship in there. The more capitals, the faster you gain points/time inside required to win. Basically, think Halo, but on a 4X scale. A tech allowance meter like they had in the older C&Cs (RA2 and before) would be a cool addition. More epic, psychotic, frigate-fragging frenzies.<br/
You can put bounties on other players regardless of whether the pirates are alive or not. It's a way of giving incentive to attack another player. Not a bug, just part of the gameplay.
I've had a simple question floating about my head about Embargo for a little while now; when used, will you incur a hostile planet's underdevelopment costs as well as any income it recieves? I haven't had time to properly test this, so I decided to ask here.
While we're on the subject, it'd be awesome to see Sins support custom avatars as opposed to having to mod them in. Maybe even custom symbols, too. Never going to happen, but I can dream, can't I?
No, it doesn't show it. All it tells us is that it greatly reduces the damage done from bombardment. The thing's still a great tool for only three tactical slots.
Let's just say shield generators are definitely worth the cost. With one up, a Novalith shell does only 700 damage. The antimatter there is likely there for "show", so units with antimatter disabling/stealing abilities can affect from the generator.
Yes, it is. I was testing a map earlier and had a random home planet placed without any connections. Unfortunately, thanks to the random starting points, you'd sometimes end up there. I named it to "OH, SH-" in the editor so I could easily tell if something went wrong.
Cinematic mode. It's up near the menu button at the top of the screen. If you've got a lower-end computer, this will really slow things down, but it makes everything a lot prettier for screenshots.
A good way to half-legitimately do it is by making a custom map with a crapload of colonizables and upping bonus density to 100%.

It's possible, but it'd get stale pretty fast. Just design a map with only one player start point and load it up. It'll likely give you an instant victory and then you click the "Keep Playing" button.
To my knowledge, XFire hasn't supported quickjoining any kind of RTS game or creating some kind of network for any kind game. Hamachi's a great tool for the latter. ...I just wish my friends were as good as it. They always leave 1/4 of the way or half-way into the game and we rarely accomplish much of anything. I'd find new friends, but I doubt any of the people I'd meet are RPers.
Team index of the player menu. I'm not really sure if it works, though, I always get mostly random starting locations no matter what.
TEC, 'cause no matter how much I hate people, I'll never abandon my species. And because we've got the best of: Music Voices Appearances Armor Hull Strength Brute Strength And you can't deny how awesome it looks when a Novalith shell hits a planet.
Pirates make excellent capital food. Best served with Kol or Marza. Speaking of which, I remember killing off pirate bases with single high-level Kols and Marzas...both in the same game.
My ideal fleet is typically all cruisers and capitals with a few Gardas tossed in if I've got spare supply. It's normally something like... 4 Kol Battleships > All strike craft are fighters. 3 Akkans > Strike craft are two fighter squads, then one bomber squad, trained in that order. 3 Dunovs > See above. 3 Sovas > All strike craft are bombers. 3 Marzas > Squadron support is a bomber squad. 100-120 Kodiak Heavy Cruisers 30 Hoshiko Robotics Cruisers 30 Cie
