Those games may be client/server based. The contolling logic is on the server, so if someone sends wrong info (by cheating) to the server, if it is not caught, it is passed to everyone else. This can't happen when each game is running indepdently on each machine (at least in theory) - they just try and process the input from the other players and then crash if something is out of bounds...

If you play online, it is rare to see much more then 3 caps in a game as 1) The cost 2) Caps go down to focus fire 3) The exp gets split amongst them so it is hard to get high level cap (see point 2 - higher lvl ships last longer)
The issue is the lobby shows a game available but it is not displayed (as it is a Vanilla game - opposite is true for vanilla people - Ent games are listed as available but not displayed). The only way to see who is in that game and choose if you want to play it is to quit Ent and load vanilla. When the expansion was coming out, there was a suggestion that the engine would drop back to Vanilla automatically if someone didn't have Sins. This is an important feature was the next 2 expan
Quoting CommanderAdama, reply 4 and then tap on some of that demigod love, just wait until they clear up the online a bit. You better play online, we need you there. If people are assholes to you for bein new, dont let it discourage you, please. Online play scares me at this point. I'm not that great at Sins (but it's fun as hell...I sit here at work thinking of strats I wan
Snoop - you know that this technical issue is not one that people can fix themselves and by discussing it here it gives other people the chance to find out about it
Oh woops. Sorry guys. A.I. always seems to pick the long route for me. So if I had that problem, how would I handpick my route?
The game does pick the longest route, but you can force it into a longer one by not building one in certain places. If I built a complete circle of TP, the route would be shorter then if I removed one of the links. this is what we mean about manually building the route..
For Trade Ports, the game's A.I. will choose the path that gets you the most money, so you don't have to worry about shortening a path or something.
You do have to worry - you can hand craft a route that forces the game to give you a better path then it would otherwise pick if every planet had a TP on it Putting extra culture down is not a bad idea, but culture looses "power" passing through a planet. The amount of power is also evenly devided amongst all phase
Earlier versions had a tendancy to go out of sync due to bugs which have now been fixed. If you weren't on the latest version, I was going to recommend upgrading...
It isn't too bad - you can get games if you are on in US/Europe prime time. Other times can be a be hit and miss. Entrenchment has split the community a bit as some are still playing vanilla, but most of the more regular players play Entrenchment
What version are both of you on?
I was going to, until I read they are comming out with 3 mini expansions, and then plan to re-release the game along with all 3. So I might just wait.
How long are you going to wait - only the first one is out and you are missing out while you wait. Esp on the MP....
The game is simulated on every PC. Data is sent P2P. The host "syncs" the game by making sure everyone has completed the previous "round" before they simulate the next one (with the rounds happening so fast that you think it is real time). As such, if one game is hacked, the others are not, so you end up with a game that is out of sync, which would be captured by the checksum data, resulting in a mini-dump (game crashes and creates a log file called a MD).... So I wouldn't wor
And be prepared to lose too. There is a big difference between hard/unfair AI and humans. Humans don't get the economic help that the AI gets (cheating), but they think outside the box and do things the AI never would. If you do get your backside handed to you on a silver platter, a REALLY good way to learn is to watch the replays. You can see what they did and how they did it. As for the skilled players - they get upset by people who are not very good joining a game marked as skilled
Try the XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX etc... number Once you have an account, you need to add a "player" to the account (you can create multiple as long as that name has not already been taken). Then select the player you wish to use and join the lobby. BTW - most people are on Entrenchment these days. Even if you are on vanilla, make sure you are patched to the latest version or you won't be able to connect (1.16 is current atm)

Hm, I guess noobs who refuse to learn are equally annoying as pros who refuse to give advice to and then complain about noobs. I've actually played only two online games so far and was lucky to have more experienced players on my team. Who also were kind enough to give some advice on which ships to build against which enemy, which planets
What mod are you running and what version was it built for?
Then give him some advice and stop complaining over new players! Starting between two more experienced players as enemies sucks, you can hardly blame anyone for quitting. It's no fun being rushed! How about applauding the Ironclad programmers who wrote the game??? Stardock PUBLISHED Sins. Their programmers wrote Impulse.
Thanks for posting that - I missed it when it was on the news the other day....
Do we care? Nope.... The games stand on their multi-player appeal and re-playablility
The main problem with caps is that they are supposed to support their fleets. Yet, they can't do this when they are dead. They die way too easy to focused fire from massed assailants, lrm, or illums. In other words, I largely agree with Darvin3. I don't know the solution, but one idea is that capships could have 2 shield mitigation values. One vs. standard frigs, which could go extremely high (maybe in the
