I recently saw a recorded game I wanted to watch. I had downloaded the recent beta updates, so I thought I'd roll back to the older version of diplomacy I had archived in order to watch it. For some reason, it only rolled me back to the first beta patch, not before that. Thinking I might have screwed up the archive, I decided to un-install just diplomacy and then re-install (figured it wouldnt take long). For some reason, it uninstalled Diplomacy, Entrenchment, and Sins of a Solar Empire. Now
STILL NO STORYLINE though.
Yes, that sucks. But with a full scale expansion, rather than a micro-expansion, I'm okay with that. They can do a Micro-expansion for Rebellion that adds it. The story now has a fair amount of material to work with, what with the vasari attack, the advent attack, and the rebellion and all. I'd do the single player campaign plus maybe add the Vasari's secret enemy as the micro-expansion or full blo

Awesome. We all knew it would happen. We just weren't sure if Stardock and IC knew it. I also like how I wasnt playing this game for a few months and as soon as I come back: Beta patch! New expansion! (literally, the beta patch came the day after I came back to this game) hhmmm... one of those articles says "stardock hopes to release the game in 2010, but says they will release it when it's ready" Either thats a misprint (and not the only one in that article), or its been in t

eh, I dont know. I am wary of changing damage % that much, especially on strikecraft after all the re-balancing thats been done to tone them down, make them useful, tone them down again, make them effective again, blah blah blah. and you get crossovers with the damage type too. Thats why some are suggesting round about ways of fixing this issue. We're trying to fix it without messing up everything else

actually, if you go into the control panel's mouse settings, you should be able to set it up so that a small section on the right side of the touchpad is a scroll section. You'd also probably want to make it so that it functions on mouse-over instead of when the window has focus. I'm not 100% sure this will work, but it's a way you might get the zoom working on the touchpad. getting a mouse is a good idea though

something like From Dust , but on the solar system scale. You create whole solar systems. I dont know why, the idea just popped into my head and wouldn't go away.
IMO they should never have made Orgrovs and the... "starfish" (forgot what they were called), instead they should have just pumped those abilities into the existing Siege Frigates. It would have saved a lot of trouble.
I agree. When I got entrenchment for the first time, I thought the anti-structure ships were simply cruiser versions of siege frigates. I was like, "what the hell? why arent they bombing?"

Well, some work does need to be done on the diplomacy aspects of the game. But I disagree with some of your ideas. One could argue that superweapons encourage diplomacy rather than hinder it. But you are right that in other times, superweapons discourage it. I would say that superweapons should give a huge diplomatic advantage until another player has a superweapon. But in general, penalties and bonuses do not seem to be the fix in my view. I just dont see how the current formulation

Well, if you look at the game's update history, I think you'd see that what will probably happen isnt a zillion micro-patches. The game keeps getting patched and thats suprising; most companies would have moved on by now and I'm glad they're still working with it. but to keep that spirit, I prefer they do it their own way. Which, from what we've seen in the past, seems to be infrequent, bigger patches.

You guys like exploded all over the place
phase missiles are a subject of hot debate right now. at the risk of a thread de-rail, what if all flak were given an ability? something that specifically targeted bombers? say it shoots all weapons at once in a burst and makes the flak unable to fire for a couple seconds? Because of the burst nature, it might have a longer range
I call again to not overreact with "balances".
Agreed. But thats the point of the betas. May as well start with something slightly on the overboard size so it's crystal clear how far a certain approach can go and what the unintended consequences are, then tone it back down if thats the way to go. if you try to nudge in a certain direction, you might be at it for 50 years with all the different approaches before you decide on
Vasari = 5, TEC = 2, Advent = 1 but i dont see much difference in the ability to kill them. ALL bombers are difficult to kill. I think a major range increase in flak would help with that, but it has potential abuse in the non-SC area.

The fan involvement is simply free labor for the devs for balancing the game. I am proposing nothing else but that.
