Well endgame (which is when novaliths appear) it is easy to wait five mins after the radiation 'cools' and then totally rebuild the planet infrastructure. You also didn't disrupt trade income which is the number one source of revenue. Sure if you 8-10 novaliths it is gg unless the enemies have SBs with the auxiliary govt or equivalent tech. But they don't need to cover all planets to be in business just some key ones. Knocking out a key planet with several frigate factories is nice but the ot

Hmm not sure if the Halcyon cooldown reduction affects plasma on destras. Thought it was for beam weapons. Can anyone confirm? Note I think illums do have a place later in the game when you have teched beam weapon upgrades (which you must have for glorious bomber power, right?). Then mixing them in with destras and carriers and guardians works very well. Its just that LRM spam is no longer viable for Advent especially against cruel AIs. They don't damage cap ships enough and get outcl

Oh its not a complaint. I personally think at the very least Kosturas should damage all ships / structures in a grav well regardless of allegiance / hostility. I was actually commenting on how fun it was to destroy roughly 2k of logistics points in a non SB battle. As far as multiplayer goes I still have to figure out why my connection is unstable on ICO. It isn;t an issue with Battle.net but with ICO I drop a lot even in comp stomps.

After the illuminator bug fix they are the worst LRM and are by no means pound for pound the best option for Advent (drone hosts and destras are better). They have a place when you get to higher tech on beam weapons but even then they lag assailants greatly.I find now if I overinvest in illuminators early, I die. Period. I don't have any experience with illuminators pre-nerf. But post-nerf they are subpar.

Just completed a fun game vs 5 cruel AIs on a random medium-large map. Settings were no pirates with large fleets and unlocked teams. The AIs were 2 TEC, 2 Advent and 1 Vasari. What made this one interesting is I only had one chokepoint and a max 2 phase lane trade network. Couple of contested space junk and gas giants between me and a TEC. I SBed the chokepoint early but never upgraded it as the TEC never came in full force. Mostly it is was back and forth on one of the gas ginats an

Kree is around way before Stargate. For example Kree was / is an ancient warrior race in the Marvel comics universe (they are long time enemies of the Skrull). This goes back to at least the 1970s maybe 1960s (not sure). And necrosis is a molecular biology term, first and foremost.

@ DirtySanchezz: Its odd because in other online games like WoW (granted that was a few years ago) I never had any issues (same domicile, same provider). So yeah I am befuddled.

Hmm personally I was envisioning something like the UHL in Starflight / Starflight2. If there is a playable faction I suppose it might be like the Uhleks or the Umanu (insane perversions of an existing race) that act as 'antibodies' for the UHL intelligence. The Exodus out from the core could be driven in primarily one direction if the shock front of the UHL-like intrusion / madness wave is spreading radially from the core of the old Vasari empire, so the only path / geodesic is fleei

The flak following HC tactic works very nicely. My HC mortality rate in the face of bomber spam has diminished a lot. Especially when we are talking sentinels with tech upgrades. Thanks a heap, helps alleviate some of the micro stress.

One level of evangelization node is very useful on your front line SBs and shouldn't hurt you very much. Your damage output is via meteor control anyways. I often build 3 defensive, 2 mass disorientation, 2 meteor control + 1 evangelization. The exception are if there are dogfights early enough before I can get meteor control that require a single weapon upgrade slot. Evangelization nodes + temples of communion can help make your conquering planets easier. I mean is there anything more annoyi

Fleet supply is an inevitable choke / slowdown on your economy except on larger maps. But I find (at least in SP) bad things come from not moving up in fleet strength in the later parts of the game. On the other hand as Greg pointed, some throttling with careful choice of units used is quite useful in the earlier parts of the game after your initial expansion wave and before you can start the wholesale invasions of your neighbors. On cruel SP games, counter-attacking a scouted gravity well af

@Greg30007: Yeah in my cruel match vs Advent it was all temples of hostility and oodles of beam platforms w/ a sprinkle of repair platforms. At one point he had 12 beam platforms in his home grav well. This is despite me doing everything I could to kill the construction drones. He got to the asteroid and stuffed three military labs there by the end with five hangars and a mess of more beam platforms. Fortunately while he tried to rebuild frigate factories (and once got his cap ship fa

@DirtySanchezz: Oh no worries. I am just commenting that smurfs / alts are part of any online game. The differences are 1) the server populations and 2) getting booted from the game. Also that sometimes the 'cures' can be worse than the original problem. As far as playing online I need to find out why my connection to ICO is so unstable. I also need more practice playing at faster speeds. While I usually play at 2x rate sometimes I need to slow down to 1x (especially at the st

What level of AI are you playing Sith? Also what map sizes? Reason I ask is that it is hard to give an answer to something like this (at least for me) without some context. At a fundamental level, if you are playing cruel (or god forbid vicious) then every faction has to get defensive at start with very rare exceptions. At unfair, unless you have a tough map / conditions you don't need to go overly defensive. But on the other hand until you get high enough mil tech you can't rush like

It's funny because in WoW, 'smurfing' was a national pastime for members of decked out guilds. I don't know how many times after a long night of raiding, I had a blast logging onto my level 19 smurf / alt and tearing things up in Warsong Gulch (relieved the stress of being the main tank in BWL or AQ40). Or logging onto my juiced up lvl 39 warlock and vaporizing people in Arathi Basin. Even worse my main(s) could finance a new smurf / alt instantly. My guildmates could help me tag mobs to leve

I actually find locked teams worse in diplomacy than unlocked teams. If they are locked they will keep banging on your choke points over and over. If they are unlocked while the opening 30-45 mins (at least for cruel AIs) will be hellish, one of them will get distracted and go elsewhere giving you time to breathe and grow econ. On the other hand I have had unlocked games where I get doubled (or even tripled on two fronts) quickly and those are a barrel full of monkeys. I guess I am saying it

You are to be commended Phoenix. I have trouble with this map on cruel, I can't even imagine vicious. I have to agree with Greg30007, in that I too think Advent is worse than Vasari, especially for the opening rush to kill the AI's constructors and frigate factory. The Advent Halcyon will counter with 3 or 4 fighters and get a level of TK push. This counters much of your scramble bombers since you are getting pounded by 12+ disciples as well. Even if I kill the frigate factory, he has

Speaking of Kosturas ... I have had some recent fun vs 5-6 AIs on random, large maps where (at the advice of others in this forum) I built 8-10 Kosturas and fire them synchronized on heavy fortified gravity wells or snipe attacks vs undefended homeworlds. The stun effect alone is amazing, especially vs hangars with phasic trap. The phase stabilizing is awesome and the cumulative damage isn't bad. Very fun to jump into a TEC grav well where all the Kodiaks are at 300 health, all the percheron's

Thanks for the clarification. The each flak to each HC / destra sounds very appealing. Just to be certain. when I right click a flak to a destra it will follow the unit AND damage nearby enemies / strikecraft, correct?

I am not sure which type of 'motion' you are referring to in particular but I can think of several that might be worth discussing. a ) gravity well exploitation motion: the AI is stupid, it has a very rigid set of target priorities for neutrals. Colony ships are of course at the peak of that list. It also loves scouts and LFs. Scouts are great to pull neutrals around the gravity well to get your LFs through to a more important planet / roid. They can also help to get colony ships to t

That is true, phase missiles when upgraded are insane. I just find that enforcers draw a lot of enemy fire, are relatively tough to kill and if I skimp on them, I end up losing too many lrm too fast. But for sure assailants, sentinels, and bombers rule with phase missiles. On the other hand I have come to the conclusion that illuminators suck early / mid-game, though they do have a place end game with the various beam upgrades. I have found every time I splurge early on illuminators I

Halcyon-Progen-Halcyon or Halcyon-Halcyon-Progen or Progen-Halcyon-Halcyon, basically rinse and repeat Halcyons and Progenitors (think 'spam' in the spam-baked beans-spam skit in Monty Python). Rapture is pretty good but for the concentration aura to be effective I believe you need the drone hosts close to the Rapture. Vengeance is really only useful on a Radiance with Animosity running. On the other hand a high level Revelation can be devastating as you spam Reverie and can lock down two cap
