A capital ship doesn't need to be level 10 to be effective. In fact, many capital ships fulfill their basic role well enough at level 1 and are rock solid by level 5. Really I find capital ship improvement to be mostly superficial after level 7. If you look at my discussions of other capital ships, I rarely even mention their ultimates; as far as I'm concerned a cap needs to stand on its own in the level 1-4 range, where it

Support cruisers, the advent dominator is good, but it needs to be researched. More importantly, the progenitor has Shield Restore, which is arguably the best ability in the game. Park it in the middle of your fleet and spam that ability whenever you take heavy damage and you should be able to tank any fleet, assuming yours is the standard lrf, flak composition.
There are only three reasons you should build heavy defenses on one planet. The first is if it's late game and you have lots of money to spare. The second is if you have an effective choke point that the enemy must bypass to attack you, then it makes sense putting up a blockade there. The third is if the enemy is overrunning your empire and you're preparing for a last stand (team games only; this is considered very bad manner

The advent society is based around empathic connections, it makes sense then that their ships would be able to synergize with each other, but the power of these synergies breaks the game. The vasari especially have ahrd time with this because they cannot uber spam ships against the advent like the TEC can.
Asteroids.. those damm rocks get me every time..
If its late game, and you have already started to win (assuming you have the ship slots and resources) you could go with both. 2-3 caps is easy to get (and the advent usually have them anyway) and add in ~5 siege frigates and planets die like they caught swine flu

What does "damage propagation" mean? For any ship affected by the buff, a percentage of all the damage done to it gets calculated for while it's affected by the buff. When the buff ends, ships around it get hit for that much damage.
The best way to use malice is

Three races: Supreme Commander (vanilla), Sins, Starcraft, Age of Mythology (pre-The titans), C&C, + tons more. Very few companies have the time and resources to properly balance more than two races without making them carbon-copies of each other (blizzard aside, obviously). The most annoying cap in the world to fight: Kostura Cannon shot Recharge AM (on self) Novalith Shot Colonize
The real problem with RTS games is the standard three races, almost all modern strategy games (COH aside) have three playable races. It is fine to have one light/quick/weak race and balance it against a slow/powerful race, but trying to go in between the two extremes is very hard. Look at supreme commander, all the races have essentially the same units and the game is still horribly balanced. Sins will always be unbalanced to some degree, the armor/counter system makes that much sure.

Scout them, if they are going military you have to too, if they are going eco and have some neutrals around or a nice thick curtain of militia around, eco is a must or they will roll over you in about half an hour. I notice an inconsistency here. If enemy goes war you have to go war as well, otherwise you lose. If he goes econ you have to go econ, o
