twice on Unfair, thrice on Hard, and it is exceedingly difficult.
Hard gets 1.5 times our income and resources. Unfair gets 2 times our income and resources. So yes, it is exceedingly difficult. The AI is cheating at those levels! (Besides ganging up on the best player). So it takes time to get ahead, and some allies.
I believe you are thinking of Hyperion's Gates (two systems (not counting little 5 planet star) and five players each system
I just played an awesome 4 vs 4 multiplayer on Hyperion's Gates (online). Each team had one player stranded in the other team's system, and they both managed to escape alive! It ended with a HUGE epic battle in the central star (all 8 fleets, hundreds of ships). Hyperion's Gates has 3 star systems, and a maximum o
I've seen a wormhole right in the middle of a planet! At first I couldn't figure out why that planet was hazy? And why it sorta glowed? I thot, for sure, that the other player had hacked the map... somehow. I didn't trust him, and since it was my first game online, I was freaked out. Untill we both finally figured it out together. It made it a very memorable game. Jedi Obi 1
with the players you just played with
I like the chance to chat at ease with those you just played with. A great opportunity to learn from the more experienced players. Regards, Obi 1
This post deserves to be bumped. Really should have been stickied, IMO. Hopefully someone will update it for 1.1 changes. Regards, Obi 1
Half the time the weapon ranges are so long that you can't see anything
Buy a bigger monitor, or pick a higher resolution, so you can see more on the screen at once. Thats your problem!
Are you using the Beta version (1.096)? If so, try hitting Ctrl-Shift-X, then try the buttons. (And the same combination to toggle the "mini-underground window" back on when you play a game. More discussion here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/327013
if you win with an ally and choose to continue
yeah, but then you've already won!? : )
my ally canceled everything and went hostile on me.
I believe it was because you only had a cease-fire, not a peace treaty. Peace, Obi 1
trying to get our version to go out of sync.
Blair, do you [or anyone] have any insights as to what causes desync? Is there something I can do to minimize the possibility of it occurring again? It is frustrating to play a 2 hour game, only to find out that the last hour wasn't 'real'. I sure hope my desync problems aren't something that is specific to my system/version? I see enuf people mentioning it, to make me believe that it is not!<
Can the devs please add a text to the empire tree - the name of the planet next to its icon?
Its already available. You can either: hold down the Alt key to temporarily reveal names on both the empire tree and the map. Or under Menu>User Interface> select "Show Names" to permanently use names, but then you loose the pips. Tip: Use the spacebar to instantly jump to highlighted planets from the lower left "reports". Click to cycle
Ok, I finally got around to uploading the replay to Fileden. But I've had a third desync since then, so I am including it too (In about 20 games on 1.096): http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10/27/2162126/My%20Documents/AutoRecord-10191455.record http://www.fileden.com/files/2008/10
I'm sorry to report that I've had 2 desynced games out of about 15 games that I've played in Beta 3! The first one resulted in a minidump, thus no saved file or replay. But I do have a replay & save of the second occurrance. What is interesting is: if you watch the entire replay from different player's prespective - you can actually see different end games occur! (From 1 replay file)! Very weird. Anyway, if it helps, I can upload the files somewher
How do I go about watching these replays? Specifically; where do I put the files in Vista, that I've downloaded? Ctrl-Shift-X will usually 'toggle' the underground window so that the replay buttons will work, 'working around' the 1.096 bug. Check the "all visible" button to reveal ally chat. There's lots of great tips in the first replay. I know because I was there. In my defense, I made lots of stupid, nervous mistakes, since it was o
The speed difference is real right...?
Everybody I have played with says so. Especially people with faster computers. And especially in the beginning. (Maybe too fast?!) Obi 1
FWIW, I too think that high level Cap Ships are too weak (& expensive)! Kudos to wnmnkh for another insightful observation. After reading all the suggestions, I think an increase in Hull (or Armor) with each level, a small increase in sheild mitigation with each level, and a reduction in research, level up, and initial cost would each or ALL be appropriate! Respectfully, Obi 1
Thx Annatar, you really know this game inside and out! gratefully, Obi 1 [e digicons]:)[/e] Edit: PS, I found out that when you go to play again, if you want to use the quick buy/sell/bribe buttons, you need to turn it back on. The typical key binding: Ctrl-Shift-X will toggle the "mini underground window" on and off too. BTW, this is a good 'work around' for a genuine bug.
Version 1.096 - I can't get the buttons in the top right to work while I "Watch" a replay. Or am I doing something wrong?
Here's a link to a website with a good explanation of trade income: http://www.soasewiki.com/index.php/Trade_Port In particular, see the examples, especially the "extreme example", with 34 jumps. Here's a link to an old discussion where Retroboy analyzes culture income: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/313848
I have a problem with Trade Ports, often the computer wont select the longest chain. Are there some limiting factors I dont know about? Who does my chain go through planets A, B, C and D, but doesnt continue on to E and F?
Cataclysm, in my experience, the trade route will seek only the longest direct route. The route needs to go somewhere (and not just "spamming" the ajoining planets!). That's probably the problem. Here's another (better) <
Cykur, Thanks for your comments. Your insights (and experience) are invaluable. I learned quite a bit from your post. Especially the comments regarding late game cap ship characteristics. Cataclysm, It wouldn't surprise me if my math was off, but actually its not! You've got the hull ratings for the 2 ships swapped - partly my fault. The Egg starts with the highest hull, 2800, and both end with an effective hull of about 3300 - if I understand Armor c
Thx, Annatar. Earlier, I didn't like your tone, and was going to send a nasty reply. But now I'm thrilled that the third release (1.096) is available today! I would like to think that they took our pleas to heart. And hopefully they have truly "fixed" the achievements bug. Some of us take pride, and put a lot time in our achievements. BTW, Whats up with the link (Insert/edit link) buttons not working? Regards, Oh wise one, Jedi Obi 1. P.S. Like my new a
I just learned that a new colony accessible only by a wormhole always has an allegiance of 25%, no matter how close it is to the homeworld. Whereas, allegiance through stars follows according to the standard regression. So, while will we receive a .3+ bonus for a longer tradeport chain thru 2 UCGWs in both cases, the tax & resource income potential on the other side of a 'stranded' wormhole is very low. (Even after a 10%
