How do you get more capital ships? I try to make more but when i do, it says that i dont have the right research to do so. Can someone tell me how to make more?

Hi, i'm new to this game and i just started the tutorial. This may sound stupid but on the basic gameplay tutorial, i cant seem to investigate the planet. I mean, i can get the ships to the planet but they stop at an invisible wall and cant get past it to the planet. Will someone help me, and just tell me what to do? It's hard enough knowing i got stuck on a tutorial.
