I, and most other MP players I'm sure, agree with you. Many similar posts have been made in the past. Many were made in the lead-up to the Rebellion beta. Developer response as far as MP features like these is usually: "What are you expecting?" or along the lines of "Not going to happen". It is a very primitive and old MP UI on ICO. You can't even do basic things like change the maps from within a game lobby. When devs ask "what are you expecting?" I have to wonder if they have ever c

I don't mean to be harsh, but a better question might be: Is there anything good with this strategy? Answer: No. 2. Why Colony Cap first? Scouts should be first while your cap is building so you know which phase lane to jump to first. 4. What is the purpose in leaving a scout behind to go in circles? For how long? Is the idea to have your scout shift click a hundred moves around the well being chased while your builders make extractors and labs? You

Actually on watching the whole game, it was pretty obvious why we lost... 1. Complete failure on the part of RM and Oz to take out Candido. 2. Complete failure of Oz to build anything whatsoever the entire game other than 2 Eggs and a few failbases and run around thinking STTC is the shit while he sits at the bottom of the econ and military ranks. 3. Howthe getting the only eco slot in the whole game allowing him to set up a massive eco boom unopposed without needing t

http://www.2shared.com/file/XwpyurLu/AutoRecord-08121727.html So my team lost this game. I'm calling on the rag-tag Sins community to give me some feedback on WHY. My team had Random Map as El Capitan, Traxin, Ozakalukas (or however it's spelled), and a new player. The opposing team had Howthe? (captain), Candido, KBroke, Universe, and a new player. Some might say the teams were imbalanced, especially

I was actually inspired by watching Nayru play Advent Loyalists in a few games where he starts with 1 mil-2 civ temples and gets culture temples up right away. This gives him the earlier culture bonuses and (increased allegiance and shield mitigation based if I remember right for Advent) helps prevent colonization in early scrabbles with nearby enemies. He actually de-colonized an enemy planet using culture allegiance drop within 15 minutes of game start. It didn't hamper his militar

Try this one: http://www.2shared.com/file/2sxTFQAN/AutoRecord-08111509.html If I remember right, Player Slayer is in eco spot and as always is pretty impressive in taking over nearly the whole damn map.

Oh interesting...I did not know that. I assumed everything would be the same % slower. It still doesn't appeal to me though - too glacial a pace for so few decisions would become boring for me.

23 Replies 81,228 Views

I don't understand how slow or normal speed would change any strategies at all. It would all just happen....slower. It would make the micro and decision making much much easier as you'd have more time to think and react. It would essentially make the game much easier, but much longer. It's no different than chess vs. speed chess. Same rules, just one is more challenging mentally than the other as you have to think and react much quicker. Ofc it's totally legit for people to wa

Seleucia has a nice breakdown of the strengths and weaknesses under various circumstances. Vasari are hands down the best late game. Their early game, if I'm to take the examples of "skilled" players I see online, consists pretty much entirely of trying to spam starbases offensively. I guess with the advent of corvettes (ho ho ho) in Rebellion, their advantage of getting LRMs with just one military lab suffered. I don't play vasari much - how do vasari players feel about the
After playing around with the coranata i have learnt the best way to play with this titan is to concentrate on subjugating assault ,suppression and also spend on unity mass when you can. This way suppression and subjugating assault are at their highest level by the time its level 6+. At this point it will steal everything from enforcers, carriers, overseers and hoshikos within the first few mins in combat.
Coronata is awesome with

First off, I'll admit I didn't read your whole post - too long. I appreciate the effort but at this point, unless we know the devs are actually interested in making changes like this, why bother? Just being realistic. Secondly, I'll say the Advent Loyalists are my favourite by design even if they are lacklustre, making me play Advent Rebels more often to stay competitive. I'm in general agreement from scanning your post that there are a higher % of useless/ill-thought out tech

Well, if they're getting it in the suicide spot, the 2 opposing players aren't doing it right. Even just getting 2 civ labs to colonize arctic/lava can be enough not spent on fleet/military/defence to get you killed vs. 2 players intent on taking you out. In 1v1 the map size would be the biggest determining factor. The random small with 22 planets would easily be large enough to delay or stall until STTC - smaller, pre-made ones you could get crunched while spending the resources tryi
The Vasari are a great example of this, Starbase mobilization and stripe to the core where meant to be late game strategies only, but for good players getting even 8 labs can be done fairly quickly. Thus if any tech is good enough, mere research requirements are not a good way to balance things.
This is an area where I think the most common game type (5v5) online creates the imbalance. If someone is in an eco slot as Vasari or even

Good points but unfortunately the game was developed with MP as something of an afterthought so its features are pretty primitive. The developers were not interested in really promoting it as a MP game with a full suite of MP features. Perhaps because most Sins players are SP focused. It was a lost opportunity in my opinion. There are still enough newish players online though to get into MP - just join or host games focused for that. All you can do is use forum threads and stickied articles h

Thanks for uploading these - I'm guessing you are Bhudasan as the common denominator throughout? A lot of these games seem remarkably similar to most that I've played as well. The random element of starting positions reigning supreme. The herding of cats in trying to work with random teammates. Has Sins ever had a period of regular teams? I guess there've been clans in the past - seems like it needs that to get past some of the random luck/lack of coordination a lot of games

Thanks but that was the first one I played vs him where I lost. Killed 2 of his offensively placed SBs but it wasn't enough. It was the next game where I started next to him again and he did the same again but I managed to beat it.

Yes, please upload that one when you find it. Cheers.

Lol - that's true, I was. Well, here's some feedback: Start faster - your capital ship sat there for a couple minutes after it was built and you took your time getting some frigates to join it. You need to be off to the first moon or asteroid nearby to colonize as soon as your cap finishes building. You needed more ships as well - you had less than 10 most of the game. Use corvettes, like at least 10-20 to start to help your capital clear and colonize nearby planets
How the heck were you fighting titans without knowing that.
With the power of the placebo effect? No, but seriously, I usually play Advent and pretty much never get the Radiance anyway so I'm fighting Titans with my own or with bombers for the most part. Unfortunately, in terms of lack of variety, very few capital ships are viable in MP and generally getting away with using as few as possible, and only a select few, is o

Oh I see - I obviously don't know the ability as well as I thought. It is a targetable ability so you can turn off autocast and target whatever you want but I didn't realize it wasn't able to affect Capitals or Titans. Now that I remember, I think Detonate Anti-Matter on the Radiance is the only ability in the game that can deplete Titan AM.

Do you mean the way the Domina used to have to turn and face its target but now it can heal omnidirectionally? If so, and if Disciples do

Which techs/abilities do you like to use as your "secret weapons" that are maybe on the underappreciated side? Or at least less commonly seen/used. Seleucia, for all his exaggerated illuminators-too-good data, I can appreciate for at least trying something different -I love finding or seeing people use underutilized ships, abilities, techs and moving away from cookie cutter builds to bring that element of surprise. Personally, these are my current favourites: Anti-Matter steal on Disc

25 Replies 22,553 Views

I'll agree you can get three military labs up and go the earlier illuminator route in some circumstances, but I still don't feel it is going to fit into the flow of most games without delaying you enough to get stomped. I still feel like it relies on not being pressed enough early on. I forgot about scuttling the capital ship factory for the space though. My main disagreement was much less on whether it is possible to use them in some cases (I'm sure it is, just less so t
