Ekko_Tek
Some of the older Advent voices sound the best in the game (which isn't saying a lot - the voice acting is pretty B-movie like overall) but the new ones on the corvettes are like anime rejects. The TEC voices and lines crack me up sometimes with how cheesy they are: "Secure the passengers!"
I've seen it work - but yeah, it's expensive, late tier tech for a 5% chance of taking over a ship. Not essential imo - maybe if you're winning and floating resources. I could see it being useful in an entrenched situation where a large enemy fleet is warping in, retreating, coming back, etc. The 5% could snag a few ships each time if you're lucky.
Yes, I agree the game has become Titan centred and that frigates have a much lesser role and I'd like to see it come to more of a middle ground with Titans as support/force multipliers rather than "whole army soloers" - at least at level 1. I have played online 5v5 and I enjoy it. I also like smaller scale games as well. My point was just that we don't really know what mode the devs are most concerned with balance wise and that what is OP in 5v5 might not work out the same in smaller
So the concerns about corvettes being OP rest mostly just on 5v5 where they make it easier to defend? Or generally in cases where there will be fighting/rushes early on it seems...I've often wondered how/why 5v5 became the standard for online MP in Sins. Most RTS is 1v1 as it is easier to balance for and a more clear indicator of skill - plus imbalances are easier to spot. I kind of wonder about nerfing corvettes just because they are too good for early game 5v5. Even in 2v2 or 3v3 o
So this bug happened to my level 4 Advent Loyalist Titan in a game near the end. I had him hotkeyed so I could still select him and see it on the UI but the screen just showed his location as space somewhere without the ship actually visible. It was right after jumping into the enemy capital planet's grav well with a large end game fleet. I didn't save the game though. If it would help to send the recording, are they saved as a temp file like in the Cache folder at all? It's still
... Isn't the instant planet capturing ability on the Loyalist Titan their level 6 ability though?
Yes, it is. So even on homeworld capture victory settings, it's not something you can "rush" to. If both tech equally fast and play equally as well and and the Loyalist Titan reaches level 6 before the other player can capture his homeworld, then it will be game over somewhat faster but there's a lot of "if" time in between
You assumed wrong - no ladder or matchmaker planned unfortunately.
Just finished playing as Advent Loyalists and when it went to the victory screen it looped "The Unity is Victorious" over and over. Text at bottom of screen said "String not found". Some kind of sound file bug with it playing continuously rather than a single time.
@OP: I also have more of an RTS (also CoH, DowII,etc) than a 4X background and I love Sins/Rebellion. I think it's because I don't want or expect it to play like those RTSs - if anything, it is more akin to Supreme Commander from the RTS world. Yes, you are usually zoomed out but once you are more familiar with the game and apm increases and you need to think less about what to do, then you'll find time to zoom in and appreciate the details more. I love the right click camera
I would love to see an elo ladder with matchmaking but at the same time, it will all depend how many people are playing online. If the numbers stay the same as Trinity, it would be pointless. Automatching and a ladder really only work once you get at least 500+ people playing it in MP. That number is a guess of course but you get the idea. And this would be with all variables the same. If you have 5v5 and 4v4 options, boom, that 500 is split up. Pirates on or pirates off - again, the pool is
I guess the basics of what people interested in MP expect or had the impresion would be coming with Steamworks would be at least a basic matchmaking feature - a way to get games besides searching for pre-set up custom games. Most RTS with MP have this as a basic feature along with a points (elo) based ladder and matching against equally skilled opponents. Was basic matchmaking never actually planned or thought about in the move to Steamworks? If not, how come? Steamworks offers this and most
Not all RTS games with a multiplayer ladder use dedicated servers - it can still be done P2P. But I've also been wondering the same - if the full release will at least have matchmaking and a ladder - otherwise I don't understand the point in switching to steamworks, it would just be the same as ICO in Trinity. Having said that, it will also depend on whether there is enough of a MP playerbase to make a ladder and matchmaking viable.
Trinity balance is different now than the OP remembers and has improved I think. Ironically, Advent are now considered the weakest of the races in MP, but not necessarily by a huge amount - skill still has a greater influence. I quit playing sometime during Entrenchment when carrier spam beat all and the balance when I came back to Trinity did seem improved. Titans have thrown that all out of whack again but, as stated, this is a beta, and I have confidence the devs will tweak it into shape b
I knew I'd find one of these threads if I dug around in my reply history long enough; https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/354689 You just can't please everyone.
Yeah - some funny comments in that thread given the current situation. I personally have no major issues with Steam and welcomed being able to get Rebellion on it and ditching GameStop Impulse altogether. So far the only difference
Their cheap cost, fast build time, anti-all weaponry but fragile health tells me they are intended for use as a quick spam defend your grav well kind of militia for when you need some numbers to counter an invading fleet quickly. I think flak frigates will still be a better choice vs. fighters and LRMs if you have the time to build their numbers up in advance.
It's already been noted in lots of posts but the AI suffered a stroke or something in the beta - it's a shadow of its former self. Unfair used to be a challenge but now it's a cakewalk.
So will the full release version use some sort of automatch search for MP games (like most steamworks MP - with an elo ladder, etc.) or just the usual pre-set up custom matches we had with Trinity (and all the beta has so far)?
Thanks for posting these - only watched the 2v2 so far - pretty one sided tbh - the game was essentially over after 45 minutes and went on for an hour of mop up. Will check out the 5v5 next though.
Same - pre-ordered and looking forward to MP March Madness. I am incredibly PSYCHED to be able to play this game in MP with automatching finally instead of endless dicking around trying to find and play a balanced set up custom game...
+1 for bignick217's WoT
Steamworks is also used by other games for automatching MP games as part of a ladder with elo rankings, etc. I'm curious if Rebellion will use this. It makes no sense for ICO to have ever added that as it's hard enough to find custom games set up to join. If the playerbase becomes large enough, it would be a nice feature though. Other games usually have 1v1, 2v2, 3v3 modes, etc. where steamworks matches you with another team searching. I'm sure this could be set up for Sins as wel
@GoaFan - I have to ask. What CD album cover art is that? Judging by your name: The Man with No Name?
Hi EmpReb, I was on the team playing against you - was a good game. And I also played vanilla and Entrenchment for a while before leaving to play other games (DoW II for my RTS needs mainly) and am recently back again to get into Sins before Rebellion hits. I don't mind the faster speeds as they still aren't all that taxing compared to other RTS. DoW II is quite micro intense so it was good training. I'm actually enjoying Sins as a slightly more relaxed pace, lol. Without
I agree with the Spydyr - I made an effort to contact my opponent, went online multiple times to try to meet up, but no success. Plus not enough were interested to start with - if there is a next time, try to PM a mod and see if they will sticky it to start with...thanks for trying though man! Lately I've been playing the DOW2 beta rather than SOASE but I will come back to this before too long.
