There is another level of piracy (which, ironically, is "laughed at by 'hardcore' anti-pirates") which is a matter of "try before you buy". There are tons of people who actually does this (hardcore anti-pirates may wish to slap themselves in the face to actually believe this, but yes, it's true). Me, I don't download games I can get a demo for, or music I can listen to on youtube/spotify or similar services. But there are times when you can't get any sample of the work you're interested in. Y

Linksys and Cisco has some alternatives, such as the Linksys WRT160N, WRT54GL or the Cisco WRV200. If you don't want to fiddle around with a Linksys (Cisco's home user brand btw - their routers often runs Linux, meaning great potential but a lot of user configuration to do), I'd pick a 3Com 3CRWER300 or a Netgear WNDR3300/WNDR3500 - they're just within or a small amount above

Mass Effect 2 - nuffsaid! (that is, if it makes it in '09, which is doubtable) CoD6: Modern Warfare 2 (if even just to get over the dastardly disappointment of CoD5) - and CoD4 was a real gem Now it's getting harder, (UFO: Enemy Unknown already has to many hours of my life, wont... give... it... more... [e digicons]O:)[/e] ) maybe Battlestations: Pacific, as I found Midway to be kinda decent and a good mix of arcade flying/boating and RTS. Other than that; m

Yes, but why would they turn to Impulse? Steam: 1: Is far better established. Has been around since 2004, and all of the bugs have been worked out. 2: Has shipping games using its backend. No worries about games breaking due to poor-qual
Just one thing; I don't really understand why this thread is about Empire: Total War instead, because it beats DoW II in so many ways; DRM shittyness (steam bugs, about a billion of them), Game bugs (more than a billion), and an in the end unrewarding game. DoW II is a well-made game with very few in-game bugs (I've played it for around ~75 hours, and have found virtually no game compromising bugs), and it's steam problems are far less than other current releases (Empire: T
Games 10 years ago also had brand new (for the time) game engines, which was just as hard to develop as a game engine today, given the technology and software that they had back then. No, they were not. Your basic premise is that the primary cost of videogames is software. It isn't; it's art and game design. Art requires artists. More complex art requires more artists. In the old days, you could bash out a first-pas
Well, just a small addition; it IS possible to run nearly any GPU on a 500W PSU, the question is how long it will last. (Trust me, I've run a 4870X2 (which requires power and then some) on an FSP 450W PSU and an E8400. (I'm a computer component tester, so I deal with this stuff at a daily basis, so you wont need a 750+W for your system, a 500-550 will be enough. As a great example, you should check <a title="Corsair TX650W efficiency" href="http://www.corsair.com/_images/charts/tx650w_efficie
If I buy a game, it's for the game rather than the 'frills' like a fancier box, a nice manual, a poster, etc. If I want that, then I'd look for a special/limited edition version or something. If I forego all of that however, I can get the game for significantly less, meaning much more enjoyment for the money I've spent. You're comparing a game now with a game before, but several big differences: Firstly, costs+quality - your av
GTA IV for PC, Rockstar really screwed the PC market over with their $200k copy protected, unoptimized piece. (Which the patches haven't made better either...) Startrek Legacy is probably too bad to even mention ^^ Agree to 200% with nixiepixel as well, the adventure game genre has withered the last, say, 5-10 years. Syberia, the Longest Journey, Grim Fandango, Sam & Max(!), Day of the Tentacle, etc. etc. - they don't make adventures like that anymore, unfortunately :/ (Ev
Exactly sirphoenix, there are a few things in a PSU you should watch, and that is the 12V-rails (amperage), if you're going for a high-end card, as some low-end PSUs don't have enough 'oomph' in those. (Get a Corsair 850W, it has a single, massive 70A 12V rail - that's A LOT ^^ watch the heat buildup though, good ventilation is always important.) And just as mentioned, high efficiency is damn much more important than the numbers the manufacturer put there. (*cough* Q-Tec *cough* - just a
lol, you seem to have experience of tech support work [e digicons][/e] I do, and it's just like that, things "just go broke" for no apparent reason ^^ However, you don't need to write to all the graphics memory instantly, if the application/game has any optimization at all (GTA IV is a great example on how not to do this /end bash) much of the data that's going to be on the graphics card's memory (usually GDDR, up to GDDR5 on today's cards) is buffered by the application, mean

Oh come on, don't just bring the "why not have toggle this or toggle that", if you played any number of games vs an AI player in the first beta version(s) you'd see the problem. Several players that experienced mines back then haven't even played Entrenchment since then, because of the horrible mine situation. (The AI built millions - nearly litterally - of mines pretty much at random, and clearing them was not an option due to the ridiculous amount.) I too was pretty much put off the

Advertisement (relatively cheap, the news reporter aint really speaking American (compare to any CNN news reporter or so...) , while GAN seems to be American) for some game or movie perhaps? The site itself is hosted by 1&1 Internet AG (German company btw), which doesn't really say a lot. The only other intel is that the video on the site is hosted on vimeo.com. Look more for yourself ^^
Most likely something in the "main über Google server" or something, as it seem to effect everyone, same thing in SWE aswell ;O
Also note that using more than one AV/Firewall/Internet security suite at the same time may compromise their functionality, only use one of each at the same time!
Take over their base :) If it is on a map that has a dedicated pirate base/planet. Capture it and the raids will stop =)
Umm guys... NDA, anyone? (Mostly just asking, I do not know whether the closed beta is under an NDA agreement as I'm not in it - didn't want SS, as DoW, WA and DC are definately enough, and SS is lame in comparison to them, imho.) If there is one, you would wanna respect that. :)
30 years was the war between all those countries, a little more than 29 years ago... Just to make sure we're back on the reply # again ^^ I just made double sure ^^ (@ Luckmann)
I truly must say that I do love your choice of menu music, it almost puts the original to shame. (Who doesn't love O'Fortuna? :) *goosebumps*) I have detected some misspellings however (such as "hanger" instead of "hangar" and so forth), if you're looking for a tester/spell checker I'm on it =)
Gotta love UFO:Enemy Unkown (EU name for XCOM:UFO Defense btw) :) dunno how many times I've played that through :) Got the original 3.5" FDD disks, box and manual somewhere around here ^^ Man those games deserve some serious respect :)
Longing for a beta update right now, curious to see how IC has handled the issues in the current build. :) (0.91.002) Any more intel regarding this, anyone? :)
