Good Christ that thing is amazing. Turned out a hell of a lot better than I thought it would. Fine work, Sivcorp.
blobness
For a second there, I thought that little indention on the front was some sort of mouth and that it's special ability would be to ingest lesser vessels (IE: All other ships.) Great looking stuff, Mansh00ter.
If I'd had something handy, I probably would have joined in. Alas, I did not, so I opted to take the "moral high ground," whatever that is. [e digicons][/e] So Sivcorp, you work out whatever was up with that ship?
Oh hell, I disappear for a few days, come back, and everybody's wailing on some guy with Demotivationals. For shame, DS team. [e digicons]:hrmph:[/e]
Just thought I'd chime in to say that this is quite possibly one of the most interesting projects out there, and with some crazy awesome fluff to boot. The probable lack of SP capability is a tad disappointing, but more than understandable given the limits of Sins. Just means I'll have to get better at MP, I suppose. In any case, I will most assuredly be keeping an eye on this. Space-Commies Forever. [e digicons]B)[/e]
Personally, I think Megalith is more than okay considering what this thing is, even if it does lack the aggressive and despotic themes associated with other Vasari vessel names. Besides, the only way this thing could be called Devourer is if the Wave Motion Gun/nanite thing was swapped out for an advanced version of the Egg's "I eat planets" attack. And if that were to occur, I would insist on Unicron as a name. Terminator, ironic as it is, would
Excellent. Can't wait to see it Siv. Looks like we may have a winner for names too.
Ooooooh, Megalith is good. Colossus would give me too many Freespace vibes, but I like Megalith. Conquerer is also a REALLY good one, simply because the imagery it inspires would work well with both that ship and Vasari dogma as a whole. And Vindicator for the Advent is perfect, I wholeheartedly support a name change.
I think that was the idea, BadTune. We're just running through the various possibilities for class names. I also fully support installation of the Evil Arm Chair (tm).
Yeah, I'm digging Soner Kahl'd as the Vasari designation. As for reporting names, hmmm....... Well, theres the ever present Hellion, which is certainly a good name, but I personally feel it just isn't grand enough for a ship like this. Then there's Leader names, like Sovereign, Overlord, Hegemon, so on. Those are kinda derivative though. Then we have Draakjacht's 'concept' naming, such as Subjugation, which is real
Sweet. I got Karma. I should probably rephrase that as "Hard" Sci-Fi, Draakjacht. It sounds pompous either way, I know, and thats not how I intend it, but authors like Peter Watts were how I were introduced to Science Fiction at large, so they're always what I hold my standards to. As for names, if we're not going to just throw random syllables together ala Vasari language, why not go for something more King
S:AaB was the same way. Brilliant show, but it plays loose with many staples and rules of Sci-Fi. Of course, it can easily get away with this due to not being hardcore SF in any way. On another note, Chiggy Von Richthofen was also my favorite episode, and if there was a way to put "Abandon all Hope" on the side of the Hellion, I would never play another race ever again.
The only reason I would consider it contrived is because, if I, personally, was leading an alien armada I wouldn't give a rats-ass if the enemy knew the meanings of my ship names or not. You name ships to bolster your own sides confidence, not the enemies dismay. Whats more, utilizing names in your own language reinforces to your opponents, assuming they are capable of finding out said names, that you are an alien power and as such they cannot hope to know or
I actually like Stant's take on the name. The Vasari probably get that they're stuck in Trade Space for the long haul, so they might as well screw with the locals. It's a bit contrived, I suppose, but it works.
Hellion, eh? Fitting, if a bit outside normal Vasari naming schemes. I will enjoy watching it area-nuke fleets in the next iteration of the Flagship mod.
Looking good. From this angle, at least, none of the ships appear to be noticeably clipping meshes. The front prongs remain imposing as all hell. You've crafted a Monster.
That looks awesome Mansh00ter, and I love the thought you are putting into the Xin's racial dynamics and weaknesses. This will be an excellent addition to Sins when it is finished.
Thats...alright, but I prefer the Flagship currently being used for the Advent. To me, the ship you posted suffers from the same problems your Kol 3.0 did - it just looks overdone. Too many random protrusions and needless spaces, especially for a race whose whole aesthetic is smooth, flowing lines. If you really want to continue with it, I would close up the dead space between the wings, and get rid of the talons on the front, as well as the towers o
Looks good. I cant see any smoothing issues, or texture clipping, though the view isn't close enough to really pick out the individual angles. Can't wait to see ti with a proper texture.
Holy Shit, Sivcorp, that thing is monstrous. From this angle it appears that everything blends together much better than the old model, that prow is simply terrifying, and the deletion of the egg means that it finally has that sharp, predatory look that Vasari capitals require. That is hands down one of the most improved models I have seen in my time, and you aren't even finished yet. This is gonna be a rough vote. [e digicons]x_x[/e]
That front end looks a thousand times better Sivcorp. If you can optimize the rest of the model like that it will be beautiful.
SuperZERO0, thats beautiful. This was basically how I had imagined the remade Vasari flagship would look, since the design had promise, but a slightly rushed execution. Unless Sivcorp pulls out some kind of monstrously awesome redux of his Hellion, this would get my vote (assuming this vote is public in any way.)
Hmmm.... It's certainly beefy looking, and it sure as hell looks dangerous, but it's just so noisy . The underside especially so. The off-center Kol hull looks a tad weird too, and that connector between the two main hull segments on the top of the ship looks like a huge weak spot in the overall design. Personally, I would center the forward part of the Kol, as well as shave off some of the superstructure on the bottom of the ship.</p
Yay. My Criticism was considered Constructive! I think. I too like the way the front is set up The prongs sloping into the Devastator Hull looks awesomely imposing, and the front also fits with the Wave Motion Gun the current Vasari Flagship is sporting. If you could find a way to blend those together better, and managed to make the wings more prominent (probably will be accomplished with the loss of the Egg) it would be perfect. Keep at it, SivCo
Those ships are awesome, but I agree with Draakjacht. The TEC and Vasari flagships currently in the mod look great and play great, and they make sense as far designs go for their respective empires. The only problem I see for the Vasari one is that its just too damn difficult to pick out in a fight. (That protuberance is also kinda ugly, but for me that takes a backseat to most other complaints.) If you guys do end up using the Hellion model, the only criticis
