personally, i think thats a little too involved, all great ideas, but to implement all of those... the micro needed for that would detract from the rest of the game, especially for those not as economically savvy as yourself. the private deal in particular was a fantastic idea, but far too involved in my opinion... and aside from that, the programming required is immense... i think you are treating planets as individual entities, not part of your enemy's empire... and in theory you ar

first, no, im not advocating spamming, personally, i think its stupid for reasons i wont go into now second, i was comparing voyager based on crew and ship size... seriously, its deceptive, but those light frigates arent exactly small... neither is voyager... but she isnt as big as a Star Trek Federation Galaxy or Soverign class starship either, id compare those with Cielo or even Kodiak Cruisers... but then again, look at all the tech and firepower the Soverign class has, vs the Kodi
i agree, however, i just read a post about a guy who got drilled because whatever units he spammed got countered so effectively. so im thinking, in order to surpass this spamming technique, you need to mix up your fleets... and as it stands... i think there is only really one worthwhile close range fighting ship, the heavy cruiser, so unless you want to spam that with plenty of support cruiser.... um... support... and lots of flak, carriers and LRF... which is very boring IMO, then i
so, i was thinking about the ships in sins... well, you really have 2 ships for grunt fighting (light frig and heavy cruiser), 2 sorta long range ships (LRF and carrier) and the rest are specialty or support ships.... (i.e. flak frigs, plus robo-cruisers, subverters, guardians, whatever) does anyone think a new kind of grunt ship... or at least a ship that is better at fighting than tactics, is needed? i know this idea has been batted around a bit before but still or a
my friend... you were actually playing God... which is why you had your ass handed to you... =P may i simply say... (obviously) that spamming units is not the way to go? capitalising on unrealistic ship imbalances just makes you predictable... if you had varied your fleet, it my not have happened... like you said, you knew how he was going to counter you... but you kept playing your spamming strategy... honestly... as soon as you know your enemy knows your plans, YOU HAVE TO CHANGE TH
i always imagined that the sci-fi shielding systems we see in things like Star Wars, Star Trek, and Sins of a Solar Empire would have to be a fairly complicated array of different defensive systems. for example: you could use wave interferrence to counteract many types of electromagnetic pulse type weapons. this would be incredibly energy consumptive though as you'd basically have to exactly match th
more details would be helpful... which file is missing for instance, what is the exact error messsage... also, can you just get a perhiperal cd drive and install the game again? or, at the very least, if you register your copy of sins on impulse, you should be ble to redownload it no problems...

i know alot of people are excited about this being made of energy... not to bust anyones humps, but has anyone watched firefly? or seen serenity? that sci fi series/movie by joss weadon? one of the bad guys were called Reavers... humans that went crazy and are now super aggressive and evil etc etc, put it this way, they are pure evil, they have no concern for personal safety, and no limits, they will do whatever it takes they go on raiding parties and kidnap pe
Quoting Annatar11, reply 18 No, the planet can't be lost. The population will be reduced to 0 and the max population will get a penalty with each shot (it stacks), but the player will keep control of it so he'll still be able to build around it and whatnot. Yuck. There goes the whole reason to use the Novalith cannon. If you can't wreck the planetary upgrades, how can it be a superweapon?
</p

They are really good ideas... except i dont think they suit the style of Sins, and i dont think the devs will go for it. seeing as they publicly told everyone they dont like the current style of RTS campaigns... also, im not sure, but i really dont think Sins has that much tactics in it, insofar as flanking is more effective etc so alot of the above ideas may need to be tweaked or simply dropped still, great ideas, great creativity, just dont think it suits Sins and al
wow, well, ive been reading these posts, then i got sick and tired, here is how i see it: we have the old glory of Stardock (and i mean that with the utmost respect) i.e. Frogboy, Zubaz, Annatar11, basically all of the members before 2,700,000, Vs the newer members like TheGreenBear and AngoraFish... who honestly are sounding more and more immature, stupid and arrogantly, selfishly adamnant that they are the poor victims and that evil Stardock etc are treating them a

very nice ideas, 1st sugggested tertiary effect is great 2 3 and 4 though could all be blended into one effect. i.e. enemy broadcast centers become yours and will project your culture at a much higher rate than normal (idn, like 500% whatever your researched rate is?) for a short amount of time. lastly, the planet and any defenses there will still be under enemy control, so, if they have a broadcast center surrounded by turrets, a starbase and heaps of SC, then the broadcast center wi
And the strange things is if you have fighters and bombers in a star, they tend to go through the sun instead
yeah, funny that... and there are people in another thread saying that starbase weapons firing through a star would cause the game to crash.... =P
yeah, we are off topic, however, its still relevant, it all started out about starbase weapons range, and to talk about range, you need to talk about the weapons being used, from the weapons we then went to the way the weapons are countered, so that we can go back to the weapons, satisfy the science behind them all, then get back to ranges... very complex, but, meh, we're human so, last comment before i let this die: I consider an EM field that is used to disrupt weapons
you could build more than one novalith? i was playing against an AI (given, this is the beta of entrenchment) and he (Vasari) had just absolutely filled his chokepoint system with mines. i mean you couldnt even see the asteroid there were mines everywhere. i sent in i think like 300 scouts (this was an early version of the beta, so the best way to get rid of mines was just scout spam) and i could not get through. so, i built 7 novaliths, targeted his planets, and fired just about simu
