Scout spam combined with light frigate spam is becoming entirely too prominent. It takes all the skill of a trained monkey and practically no effort to do. I have always been against scouts being used as an offensive unit other than scouting and minesweeping. When combined with discs, it removes a good amount of its counters(namely flak and carriers to be killed with LF and lrf to be killed with the scouts. The options you have left to counter are annoying in of themse

It is possible that Caius or someone of the like has tried to pass himself off as you, arch. He has made similar names to most of us in [_] since he got kicked because he is a child throwing a tantrum. I have seen a fake harla several times and harla hasnt played in months. As I have mentioned, the list and the others of similar nature have always been biased in its nature. There has been more than half a dozen to say for me to be tier 1 but nothing has been do
It's a different member number and no ironclad logo under his name. I would question whether it was really him too. My question would be if illums were balanced keeping what they actually do in mind, should this be changed without making compensatory changes for illums? [_]-Greyfox
Unfortunately stats are meaningless on ICO. People quit most times because it lets the AI play in your stead rather than them doing nothing. Wins can be just as meaningless because they can be easily faked. I wish that multiplayer were better supported with rated games and such but no such luck. [_]-Greyfox
The take home point should be that Vasari has its strengths and weaknesses like each race. Play the race you enjoy playing regardless of what anyone else thinks. They are close enough to balanced to where it does not make a huge difference. Just different tactics are employed. Vasari are just as formidable as any race in their own ways. It is up to you to learn those ways and exploit them against your enemy. [_]-Greyfox
Vasari are not that weak. I don't like going against a vasari player more so than TEC. I see a lot of skirantra being built now since carrier caps got buffed plus it is good for repair cloud. Vasari already had the strongest strike craft. Orkulus has had nothing done to it and was already somewhat OP in my opinion. It is just too hard to take down and too quick being built in enemy wells. Subverters were buffed and were already pretty damn strong to begin w
Scouting IS an important combat role. It is one of the most important. Knowing what your enemy is doing is crucial to knowing what to do to thwart your enemy. I just don't think scout armies should be a viable thing to do be it as a counter to LRF or not. There are other counters to LRF. Scout armies are just cheezy. [_]-Greyfox
Personally, I am averse to using scouts as a main combat unit. They are scouts and are supposed to scout. They shouldn't compromise the bulk of someone's fleet(which some do). They shouldn't be a factor in a battle period outside their primary functions.....scouting and mine sweeping. I think they should be nerfed in damage to anything other than scouts. [_]-Gryefox
The reason I bring the 1v1 match because it gives you a clear picture of the combat mechanics of the game. Yes I'm aware that 1v1 fighting doesnt happen, but if the combat mechanics is broken for 1v1 how are they not broken when you get more ships in the battle
What you are seeing is an anomaly of the game's mechanics with 1v1. 1 illum doesnt meet a critical mass as far as shield mitigation against 1 opponent ship.&nbs
Why is this 1v1 unit crap still being talked about? I thought this was talked about ad nauseum in JJ's previous posts about illuminators. Nothing has changed as far as assailants and illuminators go. It was explained last time that mitigation differences were likely the reason last time and that adding even a small amount of ships negates that difference. It has been said that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecti
If you want to play multiplayer seriously, you would likely need entrenchment. Most online play entrenchment nowadays although there are sometimes some vanilla games hosted. Generally the vanilla games are going to be newer or more casual players and may be a good place to start. The best way to learn though is to watch replays if you can of good players. You should learn what counters what units and what units/caps are capable of doing what things. I am being va
"Coolest" is a very subjective thing. Down with kostura spam!! [e digicons][/e] Just giving you crap, Quar. We all know how you like your kostura spam. [_]-Greyfox
There was an attempt of that on the forums. It was unfortunately locked and discouraged from attempting another. Considering it is so easy to make another name and cover up their jackass-ery, it had little bite to it anyways. [_]-Greyfox
That ready to play thing that stardock has might help somewhat but I don't know not having tried the beta. I have been a host and kicked questionably noob players by their records myself and while I hate to do it too much, I do see the reason it is done. Personally if someone has waited a while then I will not kick generally. Having a low record player is always a crapshoot given the large amount of smurfs in the ICO community. Smurfs ruin team games because they end u
Heavy duty smurfing has already been killing pugs. DT is hardly on any more under their tagged names but instead they choose to smurf. It isn't just DT though as smurfing as always been a problem. It would have been nice to have some incentive to stick with one or 2 names but that ship has sailed. I don't smurf at all myself and because I don't I am made a captain 95% of the time so I know how much it sucks to have stacked teams because of smurfing. It ruins the
If they jump to another planet, then they are without their AM which is kinda a requirement for repulse that you all bitch so much about as well as shield restore or whatever else. Plus they are damaged a decent amount. Also, thats what phase jump inhibitors are for. [_]-Greyfox
Stop saying a SB is a coutner to Illums, that's just ridiculous!
Whether you like it or not, it is a counter to illums or any lrf. Any SB counters lrf pretty well with the right upgrades. It takes a lot of LRF to take down a SB without losing a sizeable chunk of the fleet. The vasari can repair itself with destroyed ships, can block forward damage and is just a beast to take down even in go
There were 35 destras under a lv. 3 energy amplification aura with maxed weapons research and the kinetic intensifier artifact, they were doing 40+ dps each. I don't remeber how many illums, but they were maxed with research too. Shield restore and shield projection kept the shields on all the ships up throughout the battle and perseverance from the subjugators kept the HCs healthy. There were also carriers with bombers.
The Advent have the best lrf, the best hc, the best support cruiser ability, and the best cap abilities (except for maybe MB). What is drastically needed is more weapons and abilities that outrange repulse, either lower its range or increase the range of phase missles and the abilities that disrupt it. Right now a battleball can take on ANYTHING, four vasari starbases (not sure if they were fully upgraded) around a st
If people are vocal about a race being better in some way, then its a lot more likely that a person will pick that race because of this perceived advantage. Whether this is true or not does not matter, it is the perception that makes the difference. If you hear one thing is better than the other whether it is true or not, you are going to pick what you believe to be better. Going by race choices is not a good criteria to see if something is balanced or not unless it is overw
Advent are not vastly overpowered compared to other races. Each race has something good on the whole. There is no race that is unbeatable. IMO, tec has it a bit rougher than the other 2 but it does have redeeming traits as well. People on forums tend to try to exaggerate points of dispute for various reasons. Look on these boards a few months ago and you would think carriers/fighters of any type were just unbeatable and it was the end of the game. It could
Considering your name and favorite race, top vasari... Its not difficult for a vasari to fight off a SB rush. They have nano for one. 2nd, they can build an SB of their own and provided they have the funds can always build and upgrade a SB faster because of the enemy well penalty. [_]-Greyfox
Try playing with Tyr when he SB rushes you. Even when you are expecting it, it can be difficult. Advent doesn't get nano or assailants. Illums are tier 3 and difficult to get out in numbers sufficiently to kill off a SB if the enemy is within 3 jumps of your hw and once the SB is up it rapes lrf of any kind and you are left with no fleet and your hw controlled by the enemy. Yes I do know how much a SB costs and its easy enough to get early on considering vasari SB is t
Illums didn't come back 2 months ago. People just started griping about it 2 months ago. The real change came when carriers got nerfed post 1.1. The vasari are good already. Ever tried to beat a vasari SB rush early on. Its hard to do even with feed. [_]-Greyfox
By mobile repair bays, do you mean hoshis? Every race has a repairing support cruiser. Overseer heals and gives an armor buff. Domina subjugator regens and reverses a disable ability like that of the subverter. Just because a hoshi is the most well known doesn't mean it is the only one. Know thy enemy before running your mouth. [_]-Greyfox
