[quote who="DirtySanchezz" reply="30" id="2698420"] The reason why this game has such low player counts has nothing to do with smurfing , however. I don't deny that smurfing is a problem and that I'm part of the problem. My point is that smurfing is not the primary cause of Sins's low player counts and that you cannot blame it all on smurfing. Illums never have been a SB cracking weapon(which is kinda what I have been saying). They get eaten alive by an orkulus. [_]-Greyfox

[quote who="Pbhead" reply="6" id="2679531"]incorrect: while illums and disciples have the same modifier vs starbases, illums have light armor. vasari starbases get very poor modifiers vs light armor (75% for base, 25% for the chaosbolt, and 75% for the missles... vs 100%/50%/100% against medium armor) if you can get a single side beam to hit the starbase, you are doing equal damage/supply as disciples (not hard... starbases are so big... if you park the illums as close as you can to

Subverters and minelayers are a rough combination but the killing of 2 overwhelming fleets with them is still a little hard to swallow. It would take massive stupidity or extenuating circumstances that were not mentioned or both to destroy several hundred ships against a handfull of caps and a few smattering of subs and minelayers. Indeed if they lost that then they deserve to lose. [_]-Greyfox

While advent starbase is nice, it is very difficult to use offensively especially against vasari. The build speed is just too slow and vasari are better at taking out single targets than advent anyways. Plus they can always build and upgrade their own SB in the well faster than the attacker and there is no moving away for advent. It is generally not the best thing to use defensively against a vasari SB because again.....it can move away and regenerate. If you can

I'm guessing he used minelayers around subverter disabled fleet and cleaned house. That is a rather specialized type of thing and one way that vasari are OP. I agree that you should not be able to do that but that has nothing to do with clicking fast as you don't have to click fast to do that. [_]-Greyfox

The suggestion to nerf phasic traps is not unfounded. Its just no one used them until recently. With 2 or 3 of them you can disable any amount of strike craft pretty much indefinitely. They don't even build squads on them to save antimatter. They just save it for phasic trap. That basically leaves you to kill SB with an overwhelming number of ogrovs,HC(the only real advent alternative) or even more LRF(it takes absolutely silly amounts of illums to take

Generally when you log onto ICO, it will take you to lobby 1. There are 2 versions of the lobby. There is the regular sins/entrenchment lobby and the diplomacy lobby. You can not see entrenchment/vanilla players from the diplo lobby and vice versa. It will tell you the total amount of players online at the top of the lobby screen. If you click the join game button, it will tell you how many games are in progress and how many are available to join. If it is

Someone else who is in favor of giving vasari a big beating with a nerf bat and buffing advent...... bless you Seleucia. Seriously though, all these things are good ideas if carefully done. Particularly nerfing phasic trap, scramble bombers and making not EVERYTHING phase missles. [_]-Greyfox

While having more room does make carrier caps less important relatively, it does not make them less necessary. You can get away with building a colony cap(maybe) in a 2v2 or a 3v3 where there is more jumps before hitting enemy territory. Vasari you can about guarantee will still build skirantra anyways. I will still have to build a halcyon to keep up at some point. Map definitely makes a difference in what you can do. Game speed I am less sure being a f

I have always been of the opinion that they(carrier caps) never needed buffing to begin with. If you see that as being in favor of a nerf, then sure. There were many perfectly reasonable uses for them prior to them being buffed. They were not weak caps at all. In fact halcyon was even then a good 2nd pick behind a progenitor for advent. Skirantra was a decent pick for vasari as well. Sova had its uses but mostly situational(for sova rush for

He is not wrong at all. The carrier caps are sadly the most OP for all 3 races due to well intentioned but unneeded buffs due to community nagging. The other 3 types of caps have their uses but far and away the carrier caps are better for the resources spent. Yes a level 2 radiance allows 1 squad but a level 1 halcyon can have 4 squads. A skirantra(the most OP of the 3 carrier caps) can spam HUGE amounts of bombers. A radiance is a distant 3rd place to the halcyo

There are new players from time to time that come around. I would suggest watching a couple of replays to see what more experienced players do. Learning what counters what is a big thing and what the races are capable of. It is also worth noting how other players expand. Other than that I think the best way to learn is jump right in with the experienced players and learn that way. Watch a replay after and see what they did to beat you and try to come up with ways

As a strictly advent player, I find that it is better to drop a culture and get both terran pop upgrades before even thinking about trade other than to be mindful of logistics slots for my trade line. You get a lot more early bang for your buck doing that than trade ports right off the bat. Using faster you can get 3 or 4 more creds per sec on hw alone by culture and pop upgrades and its a lot cheaper than building 2 trade ports. Thats not even counting the 10 percent allegi

I am of the opinion that anyone should attempt to take neutrals if they can if simply to deny their enemies the resources be they econ, front, or suicide slot. Econ is more expected to do it especially if they are vasari because they have less micro to do in general. I find it funny that despite the huge amount of vasari nowadays that it is easier for me as advent to obtain and keep neutrals if they are at all close to me. There are few that fight very hard for them nowadays
