I've noticed there isn't much of a story from the Vassari side. Mind if I add another system to the DS universe? I like to add a new perspective to the stories that always paint the poor aliens as bad guys (yes I know, the Vassari attacked first....) Think that would work? Anyone interested? You could be reaching the Ram Wall of 2GM. Pull up your task manager and check how much ram your game is using (just the game, nothing else) If it ramps up to 2 GB, then it will crash every time. It is a hard coded limit to the game. But there is hope... <a title="Sins Optimization Project" href="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/378149/page/9" target="
The Vas. Trade Frig. has been optimized! It is done. Original model - 3,490 Vertices, 3,123 Faces (per ship!!!) Optimized model - 691 Vertices, 1,201 Faces (A massive reduction!) And the view looks almost the same. No detail lost at regular zoom levels in-game. SO... How do you want this delivered, Major Stress?
Sins Optimization Project [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e] Use this mod to solve the lag issues! Sins is limited to 2GB of ram usage, and once it reaches it it will lag out and crash. This mod optimizes the games textures, effects and models to a "taste great, less filling" setup. </p
Good news! I'm almost done with the vasari trade ship, and its currently at 1345 Faces, with almost now detail loss that can't be made up in good texturing. I can probably shave off another 300 faces or so too! I'll probably have it done tomorrow, then I'll start with the other two races trade ships. (I also found a method to quickly reduce polys via welding tolerances. I should be able to crank through the models now.) This mo

Sins Optimization Project [e digicons]:waaaa:[/e] The problem with lag is the hardcoded limits in ram usage. The Optimization project will help solve this issue by minimizing the ram load of the game. Check it out!
The problem with lag is due to the hardcode limits in Sins. The Sins Optimization project solves some of this by shrinking the ram load on the game. Check it out!
I really wished Supcom2 was done better, but I still am stuck on the rework of the resource model. It was totally groundbreaking how you could preset up buildings, ships, routs, ect.... The new one is just a point and shoot. I liked the new pathing, the new units and the new research layout (that tier thing was crap) But that textured job was botched. Lets make this into a cartoon game, ya! [e digicons]:pout:[/e] [e digicons][/e] [e digicons]#:([/e] <
Ah, then yes - after the boarders are fleshed out, go for the trade as soon as possible.
Good to know, myfist0. Looks like a good hosting site to use for this, thanks! On a progressive note: It is taking me a bit longer than I would like to optimize this trade ship... due to the way it was constructed. I will get it soon, just not as soon as I had wanted, maybe tommorrow I'll have time to finish it. (I am saving quite a few polys on it ;) )
NO! Wrong! Do not rush to trade ports. Gaining neutral teritory and planets is key first. Once you have an established area, then you can build trade ports within your territory. But do not rush to trade, it is a very dangerous gamble at the beginning of a game. If you get rushed, you get crushed. Refineries are summed up by the other posts quite well... They are situational only.
I am amazed at how much detail went into a ship that would be spawned thousands of times.... The back is giving me some trouble right now - I'm taking it face by face and vertex by vertex. The negative space I'm just gonna fill in; it will need re-textured for sure. I'll continue the updates and post the finished one soon.
Working on it now, I've already got it down to ~2600 faces and have only done 3 segments (1/3 of the total ship) It should be able to go down to 1500. I'll let ya know when I got it done [e digicons][/e] Update: Now down to 2200 faces - the front and back main sections need done, and then its ready to go. (If the count is still too high, I would suggest loosing the beams between the ship pods.)
Nice Stress. I always apprectiate the ones that learn it on there own... Its like a higher level of accomplishment. I also am a die-hard Max fan. I only know Maya from a game company i was apart of for a little while. Its an annoying program in my opinion. I can do the model reductions. My time is also somewhat limited, but I would like to be apart of this to make the game survive for larger battles. [e digicons]|-)[/e] I'll wo
@ Stress - So you use XSI and not 3D Studio Max? If you have access to Max, I have some quick and easy ways to simplify Polys. [e digicons][/e] I graduated in spatial animation and 3d Graphics... So i have a little bit of advanced knowledge on the iner workings on Max, Maya, Photoshop and Illustrator.
I also hear that great organization called ACORN is helping on the data crunching. You know how I answered the race questions.... AMERICAN! The US is a nation of immigrants, the Democrats obsession with race has got to stop.
Great idea Stress! I've always wondered what the deal was with strike craft lagging the game, now i know. I'm not much of a modder, but I do have a degree in 3D animation in 3d studio max, and am quite profitient in photoshop... If ya need any help, let me know - I would love to see this in full effect on the game. SivCorp
Supcom 1 had a beautiful resource system, and great base building / template ability Sucom 2 has the vanilla system of every other RTS out there, boring. I like the unit reserch system now (i hated that teir 1,2,3 crap) - and the units and abilities that are there are great, there are just too few. I can't justify paying more than $30 for this. Actually, I wouldn't buy it at all... it isn't a TRUE supcom title.
There really are not enough players online to have these recuring issues so much.... Lets get er DONE ICO... Please [e digicons]:pout:[/e]

How bout this... If you knew that you were getting a pay cut from your work, would you spend more money, even if you had to borrow it? Answer that and you answer the main question. A recession is a pay cut for many citizens, and the government as a whole. It is a good thing - it forces limited government. If the government were run like a business, it would work out the way it should. But no, some politicians get rich of the bac
Hey Mashadar, Have you put those graphs next to ones with the current Oxygen output of the world? I'm curious to see if the rise in CO2 has caused an equal and opposite reaction in O2...
they are scrambling now.... [e digicons]:S[/e]
Well, it has no textures yet, so no tips are yet needed ;) Just kidding. You need more details on the upper and lower sections of the building. Protude some trapazoids out and put windows on them as observation decks or something.
