As for Sins, I must say that after playing SotS I cannot recommend Sins to anyone. Sins is a hybrid between SotS and Starcraft and both of those games are better (I played them all ).
From my point of view on other hand StarCraft is too shallow and SotS is too complex and boring. Sins as a hybrid between these 2 is actually game exactly for me[e digicons][/e]

There is some more info on Camel 101 site regarding shaders and level of detail system they use in Gemini Wars. Plenty of nice new screens, though all of them with the same ship only. IMHO it looks good. http://camel101.com/devblog/?p=164
Ah, i tried this game but sadly only turn-based strategy i was able to play/ comprehend the system was Heroes of Might and Magic. So i could not play this one sadly. But i always hoped for the game like Sins, just set in the Trek Universe. With Federation, Klingons, Romulans, Borg and Cardassian/Dominion allies as playable factions. The current ST mod for Sins comes close to this, but because of the obvious limitations its not quite the same as would be the full-fledged Star Trek game...
Everything scifi is getting axe these days> first Flash Forward, then Caprica and now SG Universe. Anyway i concur Raistlins recommendation of Babylon 5 {did i say it right? LOL, my english sucks}. Anyway, you already saw DS9, so B5 is the next best choice. You really wont be disappointed, its the best of the best. Its only weakness is the first season, so do not let it to "scare you away", the other seasons are worth it. BTW i just finished watching whole Star Trek Voyager
I knew bus speeds had gotten better...but I was not at all aware that they had progressed this far...knowing this, I see why it'd be silly to worry about it...thanks for bringing up the info on the i7...
Youre welcome. [e digicons][/e] Regarding Diplomacy, i think the issue is mainly with me. I was never 4X guy, but classic RTSes with their low focus started to feel shallow to me. I l
Clock speed determines how many calculations your processor can handle at once (or, how fast it can perform those calculations)...bus speed determines how fast your process can deal with input and output... Now, for some applications, being able to do complex calculations very quickly is important...this would apply to say, an engineering or architectural program, which is where quad-cores become very handy...games also need this to d
I understand what you're getting at, and I agree...my fear is that they'll overshoot or overestimate what will be average...some things, like multi-threading and hopefully 64 bit will be safe bets... but other things, particularly graphics, could easily be overshot...processing could also be an issue if the game starts hitting bus speed limits...you hit those, and it really doesn't matter how many cores or GHz you have .
@Seleuceia Nobody is asking Sins2 to be new Crysis. Let me put this way: I have a Intel sixcore CPU, which cost me alone 960 EUR. This is cca 10x more expensive than AMD Athlon x4 quadcore. I do not expect new Sins to be made for my CPU. In the end i did not bought it for gaming, i bought it for doing architectural visualisations. However i do not think its too much to ask to Sins 2 be made for that 100 EUR quadcore. Its really a standard now. Its becoming to be standard on notebooks
I suppose that space invaders is still sold for people that run windows 3.1 as well. Get with the times or get left behind. If you cant afford to upgrade stick with games that are old but dont make a new game a piece of crap because some die hard wants to keep their 10 year old computer. If you have a 5 year old computer stick to 5 year old games that are in the 99 cent bin.
Bit harshly said, but yes. I am sorry for thos
You are correct in that quad core 64 bit, and 4+ gigs of ram is the standard as of now. However there will be some "die hards" that will refuse to upgrade, because they are ether unable to. or unwilling to, or are afraid to, or all of the above. If IC wanted to make Sins 2 i think they would have already announced it by now. However they did not. They announced that they wanted to upgrade the existing Iron engine one final time. Then
Personally, i would prefer Sins 2 to boosting actual game. Its going to be 3 years old after all. I play it on the third computer now and already the first one of them (Athlon 64 3200+ 2GHz single core with 1Gig of RAM) played the game fine. So i really would like new engine with new graphics and possibilities. Does not need to be nothing ballripping, so many people still can play it without upgrade, but still...its time to admit that quadcore, 4gigs of RAM and geforce gtx460/radeon 685
I dont think anyone is baffled by that. Personally i just thought Emental is going to be Ironclads game, as they are developer and there seemed to be so much talk on these forums about it.
Quoting Timmaigh, reply 9IMHO there is never enough of games like Sins for me. I would prefer Ironclad to work on Sins 2, rather than Elemental or how its called. So this game pleases me, hope its going to be on par with Sins/CFW.Stardock = Publishers of Sins and Publisher&Developer of Elemental. Ironclad = Developer of Sins.
Oh my bad. Thought Elemental is the next game from Ironclad. I wonder what
Quoting viperfdl, reply 4Looks interesting but i'll wait for a demo before i decide anything. Same. Anyway the game will probably more like Conquest Frontier Wars, rather than Sins. I liked Conquest: Frontier Wars, so more of it isn't a bad thing.
Exactly :D IMHO there is never enough of games like Sins for me. I would prefer Ironclad to work on Sins 2, rather than Elemental or ho
Looking at the Gallery, the game looks dated and it's not even out yet. Glad I have SoaSE.
The screens look bit shit, but look at the gameplay videos on their blog...they seem surprisingly good compared to thosee screens (graphicswise). And to be fair, i remember first screens of SoaSE and they did not look nowhere near as good as the final game. Anyway the game will probably more like Conquest Frontier Wars, rather than Sins
New possibly Sins-like RTS is coming....what do you think? http://www.geminiwars.com/ http://camel101.com/devblog/ New preview with gameplay video, aliens included! http://angryjoeshow.com/2012/05/gemini-wars-gameplay-preview/ new gameplay traile
I saw it twice or three times too. Really superb movie...
@Timmaigh We speak of the same thing. It's only possible with Particles, which, as Thoumsin noted, are configurable via the ini file. I'm reluctant to use it on grand scale though, as we cannot use the default star shader for the way the cells move, and we can only replace shaders, not create new ones . And I'd rather use the particles for lots of rotating sections than rarely visible moving textures.
<
Unfortunately you need to be reigstered to view that Danmans stuff... anyway now i feel you probably misunderstood me, when i was talking about moving texture... i was not thinking about rotating section of Omega, nor moving cannon turrets... i was talking about the very hull of Shadow ships... Do you remebmer the scene when Shadows took Garibaldi...there was Battlecrab flying in the hyperspace and you could see clos-up the "cells" on its hull were moving...and Garibaldis Starfu
Yeah Earth Alliance had some beautiful ships... I suppose i loved most Hyperion, it looked great! Though my fav race of B5 were probably Vorlons...i loved how they schwitched from being good to being bad guys...and their ships visually very good too...i loved their Planetkiller! Only regret they never showed how it destroyed the planet...
Reviving necrothread....yeeeeeah! I have to say, the last few episodes of the first season were very good... I suppose the second season should start soon, looking forward to it...
Well, technically the moving texture is possible, but it is not practical to do it too much (as we might hit the particlelimit if we overdo it). As for the Centauri, we still need, besides other ships: Adira Royal Battleship Altarian Destroyer Balvarin Carrier Centurion Attack Cruiser Corvan Scout Dargan Strike Cruiser Darkner Attack Frigates Haven Patrol Boat Kutai Guns
Timmaigh, if you want "Primus" i may close WIP. IF you very want this ship. P.S: about "moving" texture - this is very interested. If i remember, this is "particle effect" and of course possible. Main problem in polycounts - need TWO meshes. One - model ships with "dummy points" [weapon, center, above, aura and others] and one more - mesh with moving texture [particle effect with meshes]. I dream about "Shado
