There's a reason for the Ragnarov's other moniker... Rape-arov.

Okay, so I tried copying the meshes from my original Sins copy and the game crashed. I did the same for textures without the meshes and the game ran smoothly although with the huge gaping hole skyboxes as shown in the video I just posted. However, when I added the skyboxtexture, not the backdrop, files, the game ran even better! I guess the backdrop in the new Sins is of higher quality.
Hi all! Because the original UV mapping was pretty inefficient I swapped the skybox model so I could get more bang for my buck on the new skybox textures. If you want to use an old skybox, you'll need to use trinity's skybox meshes or copy any of the old skybox meshes still in rebellion. Hope that helps!
Thank you for your reply! So, how exactly do you do that? Do you copy over the textur
Hmm, not sure really. I've asked one of the artists to pop in and check with you though.
Thanks, Yarlen.
I'm sorry for the thread necromancy, Yarlen, but this is what I meant by the skybox gaping hole issue when I imported the original SoaSE skyboxes into SoaSE: Rebellion. In the beginning of this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=me3NRxw9i8M you can see a gaping hole in the background. This is exactly the same issue I have, and I assumed that it was because the skyboxes were small. Wha
Earlier, I wrote a thread about whether old skyboxes will return. Ironclad's answer (thx, Yarlen) was sufficient: memory limitations make it unlikely. A mod would probably be sufficient to change that. However, I do have a question about expanding skyboxes. I tried importing the skyboxes from the original Sins into Rebellion and I got this horrible gap in the background with all of them. My guess is that the old boxes are smaller. Is there a way to expand them on Photoshop such th
Yeah, the game loads up all of the textures (which includes skyboxes) at run time, so even if a particular skybox isn't being seen, it's still in memory. As you can imagine, they're rather big, so adding more tends to result in out of memory crashes.
Thank you for your response, Yarlen. Is there any chance that it will be addressed in the future? I mean, the skybox issue is not a game-breaker, but I was wond
Quoting Ekko_Tek, reply 13I want the bright/heaven styled skybox back - just because it was so different than the others. i think that the reason they did not include that one is the shadows will not show.. its bright ....
Not everyone wants shadows if their machines can't run them. The game runs fine for me with low ship numbers, but late game, the framerate starts to get choppier, and much more than it ever did
I know there was at least one interesting brownish-orange skybox in the early screenshots that looked good but I have never seen it in-game. It would be great if this could be added in. http://www.pcgamer.com/2012/01/30/sins-of-a-solar-empire-rebellion-screenshots-show-titan-class-battleships/ http://pc.games
So, I tried something drastic. I copy-pasted the old skybox files into the new Sins Rebellion, and they worked only partially: there's this huge gaping hole in the background with all of the old skyboxes as if the fabric of reality itself was being torn apart. I just hope the devs add more spice to this variety.
I didn't find any problem with micromanagement. Mostly, I'd choose my long-range frigates to attack light frigates, my corvettes to harass long-range frigates, and my light frigates to attack cruisers while the big boys duke it out. Less casualties on my side at least. As for the strike craft? You can only micro-manage them insofar as to attack other bombers and possibly small frigates. The strategy is in knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your ships, and those of your en
At the least I hope they get rid of the green one and put a red one back in. But what other skyboxes that were never in the game were in the trailer?
I agree, but I just hope that we can just add them or something... :S
I was hoping for more support.
Dear Devs, Thank you so much for an awesome game. I like every bit of Sins Rebellion and I'm really enjoying it. Just one small caveat, though. Is there any chance that some of the old skyboxes, like the red and bright blue ones, might return even if modified in some form or other, and is an upcoming patch going to bring those back as well as the ones we saw in the trailers and screens for Sins Rebellion that are not currently in game? Thanks! :D
I think the combination of different ships in one fleet is what the sequel to this game will be about. Right now, the Vasari Rebels are OP as it is. Either delaying the starbase jump tech or switching it over to the loyalists will balance things out given the loyalist's more nomadic approach.
As a huge Vasari fan (I can't stress this enough), I think they're way overpowered. I literally had a fleet of Corvettes (about 25 or so) destroy a level 1 Marza Dreadnought in the orbit of a blue star (cue laughter of Sulsurak Corvette pilot). The Titans themselves are also ridiculously strong, and the phase-jumping Orky was literally a last straw. I can understand the need to add more features, but I think these things have to be nerfed or delayed completely.
(Reads OP and agrees wholeheartedly) --> Sulsurak Corvette pilot's laughter.
I just hope that the faction colors are more pronounced in the next patch...
The Sulsurak Corvette is hilarious! Anyone catch the pilots laughing, or cackling, manically?
When I went to the steamapps directory for SoaSER, it still showed the Diplomacy icon for Rebellion. Will this be changed? The reason I ask is because I want to copy-paste the icon to the Games Explorer on my Windows menu. Thanks again, Ironclad, and thanks for cryptically placing in the Advent: they're an even awesomer race right now! :D
I agree with the OP. The colors are not as distinct on the Titans as I thought they would be. Even the flares from the engine and the markings are not as clear cut.
I love the new Rebel Advent Titan design.
I'm not so sure, Silfarion. I think the Corvette motion animations still need to be worked out. They literally look like "Corvettes" (I mean Chevy Corvettes) moving about the 2-D space around planets and stars and dancing around their targets. Don't get me wrong: I LOVE the new Corvettes as they add a new dynamic to the gameplay, but they just seem to act funny.
I'm having a blast with the Beta so far! But I just have one quick question: is it possible to turn off shadows? I think it's giving me some framerate hiccups.
Just a quick question for the devs and anyone who knows about this: will Sins Rebellion be sold on retail? I remember there was a plan for that happening.
