I've spent a good chunk of the past few days with the new Sins site, updating existing content and working on new stuff. I think people will be pretty pleased with the overall improvements.

As I see it, if you add even the option of 3D movement and building placement to the game, the AI would have to be able to account for it, counter it, and even manage to do it on its own. As soon as you have the AI utilising 3D space like that (like in Homeworld), even the average gamer has to learn how to use it. It's one of those things where if you include the option, everyone will HAVE to use it since the AI will have to handle it as well. I remember many a Homworld se
I would get a Core 2 Duo CPU and mobo (maybe one that supports quad core). Get the low-end Core 2 chip (I believe it's the 1.84GHz one) for now, that way you can upgrade the CPU later when you have a bit of extra cash. You will want this capability as more and more games are taking advantage of multithread/core CPUs. Don't bother with holding out for physics coprocessors, there's only one card on the market currently and it runs around $250 and most games don't use it yet.
Also have been playing Sins on my Vista laptop, which has similar specs to Yarlen's, only I'm running with an x1400 ATI card. Good experience overall, only limiting factor is the video card currently.
The announcement will be sometime today, likely in the afternoon EST... so don't get too attached to any specific time just yet
I just reinstalled X3 this weekend and applied the 2.0 patch (my god, I've never seen a patch process so complex). I remember now why I never played the game much. There is no indication of what you're supposed to do or how you're supposed to do it. The UI is terrible and doesn't give you much help, and you waste so much time traveling in the beginning to figure out the good trade routes. Once you get through all of that and have some automated ships going... yeah, then t
P5y and i did try and squeeze any out of the stardock zoomba (who didnt try it) and kryo, that did. Only thing kryo told us, was that he liked it very much hehe. And he said that it should be ironclad, who should get the honor of revealing anything, as they deserves it. You got Kryo and I mixed up there
To clarify... fair use rules allow you to republish parts of an article. So a few of these scans are OK, and maybe a single quote from the article would also go under the radar, but fair use does not allow for the complete republication of a magazine article.
There will be some less formal chat time after the hour-long dev chat is done, plus we may let in a few Sins questions for Frogboy and Yarlen to take a crack at.
The chat starts midnight GMT (We're in EST, which is GMT -5)
This Wednesday, February 7th at 4pm PST/7pm EST we will be hosting a developer chat to answer questions about Galactic Civilizations II: Dark Avatar, due for release this month. Even though this is not directly Sins of a Solar Empire related, this is your chance to chat a little bit and get a good look at the folks at Stardock
Zoomba goes in to have Yarlen's designation changed to "Trained Monkey"...
ohh.. forgot to say, since im an ist student at Penn State University, i get vista for freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee Penn Stater huh? And IST too!? I graduated from PSU & the IST program in 2003. Nice to see some nittany lion representation here on the boards!
Damn stars..... Sounds like someone was having fun at work today! Oh, we try and keep things fun here in the forsaken, frozen north. I think the MI state govt passed legislation that nerfed the sun, only good reason I can think of for it being so darn cold here!
nice! mmm I can see it already....... this cruiser is too strong, no its not , yes it is, lol , it pwned my entire fleet by itself, whatever, your just a noob... learn to use some strategy and tactics and use more than just one type of ship!!! The cruiser is too strong? FEH! Personally I think stars are too overpowered... I mean they're just so bright and warm, totally outshining the planets. It's obvious the developers have a pro-sun bia
RPG: Oblivion, hands-down. I've put a ton of time into this one, and I'll be starting fresh when the expansion comes out in the spring. RTS: Company of Heroes. Has one of the most enjoyable multiplayer modes I've ever played in a strategy game. TBS: Gal Civ 2. And I say that even though I wasn't working for the company when the game came out. Played that game through beta more than I play most retail games. Shooter: BF2142. I know people h
Happy New Year all!
Frankly. No multiplayer=bad game. Multiplayer delayed=bad game The game is going to have multiplayer, it has been stated by both Ironclad and Stardock. It's just the very first beta phase will be SP only, with multiplayer likely coming in the second phase a few months later. No one has claimed anything even close to there no
What Yarlen said
I've got an X600 in my office machine and a 7800GS at home. It ran surprisingly well on the X600.
Sup Com is also supposedly releasing in March, which means they effectively have 3 months left of dev time. The marketing machine has to really start spinning up now. As we near release, we'll be spinning up our marketing efforts as well. Don't worry, this won't be some game no one ends up hearing about
I figure things will get pretty busy in here in a month or two
Welcome back Lizard Details on the beta haven't been released yet. Expect news on what the beta will include closer to the start in January. -Z
I have to go with TBS too. I'm a slow player when it comes to strategy games, I sit and think things over for a while before taking an action. RTS games like C&C, Starcraft or Supreme Commander don't allow me the time I need to make decisions. And like Yarlen said, that's not so much of a problem with Sins
These forums are a vast improvement over what they replaced this past summer. Also, while they may be ever so slightly non-standard, once you get used to them, you'll find in places they're actually more powerful than phpBB boards you see everywhere else. There's a lot of custom code that needed to exist to make the forums tie easily into the rest of our community systems. For GalCiv 2, your account ties to your purchase for digital download, forums and the metaverse.&nbs
