The pros are probably quite skilled in all of the races (in regular Sins) despite most preferring one or two over the other. On the other hand I wouldn't be surprised if some or most of the modders were only somewhat comfortable with one race... if you see where I'm going.

The "add players" option is the option to add a "player" for yourself to use when playing online. Once you create an ICO account (which you have already done) you need to then choose a name or a few to use online using "Add Player" - then, pick one of the names you created to use and you'll be able to select "Use Player" and then go into the main Sins lobby, where you'll see lots of other people online.

If you're a newer player I highly highly HIGHLY recommend turning off pirates. Even experienced ICO players hate dealing with them - they're extremely random/annoying and hard to deal with if you don't know exactly what you're doing.

I've found that turrets can actually do quite a lot of damage against pirates. 3 or 4 turrets combined with a repair bay or two should hold off most pirate raids. That said, I strongly recommend disabling pirates.
2. guass defences cannons ARE worthless. stop building them. Only tatical structure worth building is the repair bay. and you dont need many.
Turrets have their uses, even with Pirates off - both in single-player against AIs where the

Because of this the majority of the non-smurfers would rather play with recognized accounts, in a way they win either way, either the smurf unmasks or you aren't forced to play with a lousy player. I seriously doubt that it can be carried over to Steam given that the preorder is from Stardock itself. Although (I think) it's very likely that Rebellion will eventually be released on Steam, you'd have to wait for Steam to be selling it in order to get it via Steam.

There are tons of newer players around nowadays anyway, no one should be kicking players for "smurfing" unless they have a really good reason. Kicking those with fewer games nowadays is simply inviting Sins to regress back to the days of almost null player counts.
Why fighters? Or did you mean bombers?
Fighters help negate enemy strike craft - the enemy'll probably also warp in a carrier cap. Or, if they don't, your fighters can be effective taking out enemy Assailants. If you build bombers instead of fighters and the enemy warps in a carrier cap with fighters. your strike craft become useless very quickly. That said, if you have 2 carrier caps already, it could

Indeed. I did put significant thought into saying "somewhat close by" instead of just "close by". If the Vasari can be attacked immediately, they're in trouble, but if there are a few gravity wells in between and they can start building up good numbers of Assailants and get SB tech, then they're on the path to winning. That said... I think 2 or 3 turrets will do a great job of protecting your HW frigate factory, buying you time to build more units/tech/Migrator (but also of co

You should be aiming to have 5 planets or more 7 to 15 minutes into the game - then build up a moderate trade chain, and then spam long range frigates and attack. That alone should be enough to take out the lower-level AIs (Unfair and below)... except when you get significantly later in the game, in which case you can start building lots of carriers/bombers. Static defenses are expensive and usually aren't needed, except if you're fighting Cruel or Vicious and absolutely need

Be aware that games online ("Faster" speed) also often seem to go by much more quickly than ("Faster") single-player games off of ICO. Described here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/410484 So if you're thinking about playing multiplayer (which I highly recommend) but are still fighting AIs you might want to practice on ICO instead of in the Single-Player mode to help you get used to speed and lag issues soon
