Independent of DLC sales are the limits of the game engine. With 2 GB of RAM being the possible maximum, the devs are rather limited on stuff that can be added without hitting said limit in large games. Being a single CPU software as well, lag is also an issue.

Even more amusing is the fact, that all missiles have unlimited range. No matter how far you jump away, the once fired missiles will follow. And impact the ship if you wait a while.
