The same amount of fighers cannot take out the same amount of bombers. If you are facing 50 bomber wings and you have 50 figher wings, the bombers will only be destroyed after the bomber carrier has run out of AM to replace them. Which takes several minutes. In the meantime, most stuff those bombers do hit is dead. Fighters are only interesting if you have a significant numerical advantage. Which is ironic.... realistically one should need much more bombers to penetrate a figh

I dont think that the developers did have the intention to make the Vasari - or any other race - OP. It just happens.Some thing turn out far more deadly in "real life" than on the drawing board. When designing a game, you do so in stages on the "drawing board". I would guess, that TEC was the first faction developed.... as they are comparable straightforward. Then I would guess they went over to the Advent. They are different from TEC in most ways
