Yeah... I find it curious that i can tell the entire makeup of a fleet in orbit around a star halfway across the galaxy.

Try rolling the mouse over the available planets in the system (this worked for me) - i found that even without the prompt, the game was still waiting for me to select a planet to colonize.
I tried both (the archive install AND the 465 install) and had much better luck just grabbing the 465 install and then using the .exe bonus pack (available for retail versions of the game) everything went together perfectly and checking the version number shows that the .exe installed at 1.01
I don't believe that any of the ship models in galciv are 3d - they totally look like top-down sprites I would also be interested in editing the ship "models" just to clarify some of the weird size issues (it bugs me that the defender looks so much larger than the frigate - for example) ;p
Okay... just so I am clear on this. If I want to send 500 credits to someone (or receive such) is the proper line 500 credits for 0 months or 500 credits for 1 month ?
If a stack of ships with a range of defensive values is attacked by a single enemy ship - what ship does the computer select to act as the primary defensive ship for that round of combat? Does it go with the ship with the highest defense value, the ship that is "first" in the stack or some other random selection? Also, if a stack with similar ships is attacked but one or more of those ships is carrying battle damage, does the computer take any of that into consideration when as
This is the first TBS game that I have been genuinely excited about since Alpha Centauri. Well, truthfully, I was excited by MOO3 until I actually "played" it.
Hmmm... although it says 1.01 and bonuspack, when I follow the link, I go to a page that only offers the bonus pack (not the full 1.01 download)
Well... the trouble is that i am not entirely sure what the variables do that I am editing. Nor do I understand how UP events link to other things (like the escape of space monsters/galactic jailbreak, etc.) I need a tutorial of sorts.
Ooops! i think they have! there is a sticky thread about called "suggestions"
I wish that there was some sort of notice as to the extermination of another galactic race - I am always a bit surprised to find another race suddenly vanished off the face of the galaxy without notice. I'd like a quick available planet report for ease in selecting appropriate worlds for colonization. This is a common request. Also, where can one go to find out the modifiers/benefits from wonders and trade goods AFTER they are created? It would be interesting to know where all
Will it be possible to create new UP agenda items? Will there eventually be detailed tutorials on this as well as event editing?
I notice that when speaking to an alien and checking out their current political situation that they are often defined as being allies with themselves (duh!) And here are a few wish features off the top of my head: I wish that there was some sort of notice as to the extermination of another galactic race - I am always a bit surprised to find another race suddenly vanished off the face of the galaxy without notice. I'd like a quick available planet report for ease in se
Yes, I was on the brink of spontaneous combustion with troubles over the archive install but aside from that technical difficulty, I have little but praise over the sheer fun of the game. Thanks, Frogboy and co. for a damned fun game!
Well, when I unzip the files - the extensions are all "truncated" - like galciv.exe is galciv.ex_ and manual.pdf is manual.pd_ because the files are further compressed within the zip file (yikes!) so that approach does not work for me go figure but my lame ass way seems to be working for me
ah ha! if i double click within pkunzip i can pull out each file in an expanded format (the downside is that i have to place them manually, one at a time and remember exactly where they go...) BUT it seems to work!
dammit... thought i had it there
a HA!!! extac32.exe seems to maybe possibly work! (maybe!)
heh heh! What kills me is that if I could just figure out how to expand the multimedia file then i would be GOLDEN. What is the SECRET? What utility can i use to expand these mp3s and bink video files into their normal state?
Has anyone been able to install the game, manual, and mulitmedia successfuly using the install from archive approach? Not from a direct download/install but solely from archived versions. Please let me know as I beginning to doubt my tenuous grip on sanity.
btw, i am working from the "download and archive" version i did NOT do a direct online install
I'm not trying to be difficult. I am following instructions to the letter and the install is failing each time. I get no .pdf. I get no multimedia install. The only luck i have had is with the basic game install so far. :(
What utility can i use to unzip the files from the archived versions manually that will also restore the "truncated" file extension? I have seen this sort of thing before but it was so many years ago that i can't remember how i solved it then. Any help would be appreciated!
damn... not mine. downloading straight to archive created these *evil* zip files that contain files that cannot simply be unzipped (or my trouble would be over) and the kicker is that i have tried to delete and reinstall galciv to get a fresh start on it and now THAT won't install double argh!
here is the line of death: Extract File: d:\programs\stardock\temp\Base\Data\UP_Issues\RestrictMods02.UPISSU_ Result: Failed (file not found) Installation aborted (failed)
