Alright, I just zoomed out. And out. And out yet more. The huge battles I'm talking about, with the large amount of planets that I thought was really the large map, was actually a "sector" or "star system", or what have you. I have 4 such sectors next to me, all with their share of many many planets, and I didn't even scout half of them. And I'm sure there are more such sectors around them that I haven't discovered. OK, who's the wacko that thought about this?! This could take me liter

Graphics are better on SotS? Eh?! The graphics there are practically old-school. You might say that Sins's graphics are not the best you've seen, but let's not get carried away here. The moving ships is really a minor technicality. Sins is a RTS with large scale, not a TBS. It has to sacrifice customizations for a different type of gameplay. Other than that, you have some valid points there, moving defense turrets and random selective tech-trees are actually quite advantages th

I usually build my economy first, metal, crystal and cash upgrades from the planet. Then I build a scout and scout automatically a bit, and then I build about 5-8 Kobalt light frigates to take care of the 2-3 nasties that dwell next to the colonizable planets/asteroids that are nearest to my home planet, and while the frigates are on their way, I build a colony ship and send it a bit after the frigates. I usually prefer colonies that have access to more crystal asteroids, since metal is never a

Thanks for the tips, Charnas_Lightbane. By the way, which defense is better, hangars or turrets? I know I should use both, but which should I focus more on? My logic says that hangars filled with bombers should give plenty of things for the enemy to handle, no?
Another option depending on how the system you are in is setup is to simply conquer the colonies linked to the black hole.
Thought about it as well, but I cannot pass through the black hole. Ron said something about a technology I need to research. I look that up. bonerfest, the problem is hardly the AI. It's doing great - it's constantly harassing me, exploiting my weaknesses and wearing me down, making me fight for every inch. I never saw an AI fleet simply ab
Sheesh, why don't we rename "siege ship" to something like "Orbital Bombardment Ships"... then you can cut it with the ridiculous "siege units are weakly armored because they've always been weakly armored" BS.
This is hardly BS, and the name does not matter, either. You either put massive cannons/rock throwers/bombs to deal with large, fortified targets but leave the armor lacking or you lower the firepower for some extra armor and assault capabilities. You cannot simply

Sword of the stars was nice, but had alot of kinks and quirks you had to get used to. Sins is actually a masterpiece. Everything in the game - the game mechanics, the interface, the camera focus, it's simply a superior game in every aspect. It's refined and streamlined, yet it is by no means mainstream or watered down TBS. If liked sword of the stars, you will love Sins.

Thanks for the input, Skraatch, I truly appreciate it :) Too bad the TEC don't appear to hold such a jump-node technology, that is really neat! I can really move my fleets around this way. Yeah, I see now that I need to seperate my fleets and not focus mainly on capital ships, but I really dislike this entire frigates' babysitting. Capitals can handle their own, and can take care of themselves if you leave 'em for a sec, but frigates are annihilated and constantly need replacin

You are much more than living up the the expectations! This game is a masterpiece! You guys are my favorite and in my opinion, best developers and distributers in today's gaming market, and your passion for games oozes from every piece of code in the game. I wish you all the best! Keep up the excellent work!
Why not try having a decently sized fleet at the colony that keeps getting attacked? Weaken your main offensive fleet a bit if you have to. Since it sounds like they are pretty darn well upgraded, you can take a small portion, a couple of cap ships and good number of frigates and you won't lose all that much offensive power. Also consider building lots of hangers and defense turrets at the threatened colony.
I was afraid of this - I loathe messing around with th

This is hardly a problem. I have no idea why you guys face such difficulties with siege ships - A simple fleet of lousy tier 1 frigates kick their asses. But guys, please give the devs some more credit. They don't nerf the siege ships merely due to the complaints, they nerf 'em because it goes with their logic - siege engines are nothing on their own, they need major fighting force in order to protect them. And besides, otherwise it will be siege ships-spamming festival, and that's just

Weird, never happened to me. The AI never moved past my choke-points and proceeded to attack my unguarded planets. Well, perhaps because I'm quite the turtler and it would be suicide for the enemy to ignore my massive defenses and simply move past them on the way to my unguarded planets.

I created a new large random map and started turtling for 5 hours (which ran out like 5 minutes - this game is addicting with a capital A, well done, Stardock!). Eventually I created such a powerful all-around fleet of captial ships that no one could beat it. I never lost a single captial ship, kept enhancing abilities to complement and alter each other ships' strengths and weaknesses. As a matter of fact, each time the enemy attacked one of my colonies, I simply moved this uber-fleet to the att
