Yeah, I guess this strategy is not that hard to commit properly, it's just that- again, and again, and yet again, defenses should be a more viable strategy, in my opinion. Oh, and by the way, thanks for calling anyone that disagrees a moron, really adds alot to your point.
why? just look at the total war series. it's a seperate mini-game in itself. it's supposed to be fun and challenging. hopefully they will fix it in this game.
Ummm...the diplomacy in most of the Total Wars reeked. In my opinion, that is. It mainly bought you some breathing room from time to time. Which is, I agree, much better than Sins, but that doesn't really say much, now is it? :) And second, Total War is not a RTS, not in any shape or form. It's a TBS w
I just returned from a medium random map game with 4 players, and this time I went on the attack. I have managed to wipe out 1 player and cripple the next. Next thing you know 3 of the players attack me from all fronts at the same time. I had full defenses around around every planet. Every single one was bristled with turrets, hangars and repair stations, with max research for planet health. I couldn't split all my fleets to respond at once, and one by one the planets were picked. When
Agent of Kharma, relax, dude, you've got the developers' notice, no need to get all defensive here and turn the thread into a flame war. You were wrong to bash that way the game in first place, and should show a bit more patience and restraint. Please don't make it worse. And I'm on your side, or at least try to. Anyway, I do think this post has run its course, but that's just my opinion.
Blair, that was an excellent post. Thank you very very much for your utter dedication. Actually, I think Stardock and Ironclad both should use this extremely bold letters in GalCiv and Sins homepages: "We take your qualms and grievances with the game seriously and constantly aim to improve the game using your feedback. We aren't like other companies where you get ignored or where complaining as loud as you can is the best way to get attention. Polite, detailed descriptions of t
Diplomacy looks really good on paper, but it pains me to agree that at the moment it is implemented as an afterthought :/ However, this is not a top priority in my book, as this is a RTS game, which mainly deals with combat and units. And like in almost any RTS game (except the ancient Seven Kingdoms series), I simply ignore diplomacy altogether.
He actually has valid points, guys, the title though may use a better wording. This is not a "crappy" game, but a game that currently doesn't fulfill all of its amazing potential, in my opinion.
Lets just break the whole game while we're at it with dumb fan-submitted suggestions. Megaships, Dreadnoughts, even just a nice little I WIN button you can punch when you're tired of playing. I should really get into multiplayer and wipe the floor with all you little whiners because the AI just isn't challenging me and since you all seem to have trouble even playing a 1v1 game I assume I'd just give you a humiliating loss that would compel you to uninstall the game in shame.
This is weird, I never experienced this. My fleets usually wipe the floor with the enemy's. Try manually focusing your big guns on his big guns and take them out first as fast as possible. Then have a supply cap ship repair or buff your main cap Kols, and wipe up the frigates. This should work, guaranteed, unless the AI has some cards up its sleeve that you didn't notice, like extra support ships or something. In that case - cause as much damage as you can, and run away, preferably to a
That matters because with higher defenses and a large fleet, it would become impossible as things are right now to actually get through those defenses. In a game like this, if you have defenses that are capable of beating back ships by itself, then that means YOU ALSO GET BEAT BACK. Which means that you die. A lot. And never actually advance. Perhaps increasing the ship cap would be one way of handling this (though I imagine the devs thought of this and worked on it en
I have to agree. As a turtler, the defenses are quite poor. Maybe they were never meant to withstand proper attacks, but they are not even delaying moderate fleets, which carve through them like butter as if they were not existant. And as a turtler, this fact greatly saddens me. Buff the defenses up, please. Or at least provide us the checkbox to greatly buff them so they could at least do some damage. Maybe even add a heavy planetary ion cannon to planets so they could better defend th
Meh, why bother with the speed that much? Go and play GalCiv2, then. It already has everything you want. Sins is not a TBS. It's slow plenty enough as it is. Actually, it's much slower than most RTS games besides maybe Supreme Commander.
Well, my uber fleet had 5 Kols, 2 Sovas (cap carriers), 1 Dunov, 1 Akkan, 1 Marza. No stinking frigates needed :) One of the Kols was specially enhanced to deal with fighters and bombers by maxing out its flak bursts, and the other 4 Kols had maxed out their gauss rail guns. Add that to the max antimatter research which allowed these behemoths to fire their rail guns quickly, and the fleet simply ripped apart through anything. Nothing stands against concentrated 5-10 maxed out rail gun
Alright, I just zoomed out. And out. And out yet more. The huge battles I'm talking about, with the large amount of planets that I thought was really the large map, was actually a "sector" or "star system", or what have you. I have 4 such sectors next to me, all with their share of many many planets, and I didn't even scout half of them. And I'm sure there are more such sectors around them that I haven't discovered. OK, who's the wacko that thought about this?! This could take me liter
Graphics are better on SotS? Eh?! The graphics there are practically old-school. You might say that Sins's graphics are not the best you've seen, but let's not get carried away here. The moving ships is really a minor technicality. Sins is a RTS with large scale, not a TBS. It has to sacrifice customizations for a different type of gameplay. Other than that, you have some valid points there, moving defense turrets and random selective tech-trees are actually quite advantages th
I usually build my economy first, metal, crystal and cash upgrades from the planet. Then I build a scout and scout automatically a bit, and then I build about 5-8 Kobalt light frigates to take care of the 2-3 nasties that dwell next to the colonizable planets/asteroids that are nearest to my home planet, and while the frigates are on their way, I build a colony ship and send it a bit after the frigates. I usually prefer colonies that have access to more crystal asteroids, since metal is never a
Yeah, especially with all the fighers/bombers zooming about. The really large battles really bog-down my hardware.
Thanks for the tips, Charnas_Lightbane. By the way, which defense is better, hangars or turrets? I know I should use both, but which should I focus more on? My logic says that hangars filled with bombers should give plenty of things for the enemy to handle, no?
Another option depending on how the system you are in is setup is to simply conquer the colonies linked to the black hole.
Thought about it as well, but I cannot pass through the black hole. Ron said something about a technology I need to research. I look that up. bonerfest, the problem is hardly the AI. It's doing great - it's constantly harassing me, exploiting my weaknesses and wearing me down, making me fight for every inch. I never saw an AI fleet simply ab
Sheesh, why don't we rename "siege ship" to something like "Orbital Bombardment Ships"... then you can cut it with the ridiculous "siege units are weakly armored because they've always been weakly armored" BS.
This is hardly BS, and the name does not matter, either. You either put massive cannons/rock throwers/bombs to deal with large, fortified targets but leave the armor lacking or you lower the firepower for some extra armor and assault capabilities. You cannot simply
Sword of the stars was nice, but had alot of kinks and quirks you had to get used to. Sins is actually a masterpiece. Everything in the game - the game mechanics, the interface, the camera focus, it's simply a superior game in every aspect. It's refined and streamlined, yet it is by no means mainstream or watered down TBS. If liked sword of the stars, you will love Sins.
Thanks for the input, Skraatch, I truly appreciate it :) Too bad the TEC don't appear to hold such a jump-node technology, that is really neat! I can really move my fleets around this way. Yeah, I see now that I need to seperate my fleets and not focus mainly on capital ships, but I really dislike this entire frigates' babysitting. Capitals can handle their own, and can take care of themselves if you leave 'em for a sec, but frigates are annihilated and constantly need replacin
You are much more than living up the the expectations! This game is a masterpiece! You guys are my favorite and in my opinion, best developers and distributers in today's gaming market, and your passion for games oozes from every piece of code in the game. I wish you all the best! Keep up the excellent work!
Why not try having a decently sized fleet at the colony that keeps getting attacked? Weaken your main offensive fleet a bit if you have to. Since it sounds like they are pretty darn well upgraded, you can take a small portion, a couple of cap ships and good number of frigates and you won't lose all that much offensive power. Also consider building lots of hangers and defense turrets at the threatened colony.
I was afraid of this - I loathe messing around with th
This is hardly a problem. I have no idea why you guys face such difficulties with siege ships - A simple fleet of lousy tier 1 frigates kick their asses. But guys, please give the devs some more credit. They don't nerf the siege ships merely due to the complaints, they nerf 'em because it goes with their logic - siege engines are nothing on their own, they need major fighting force in order to protect them. And besides, otherwise it will be siege ships-spamming festival, and that's just
