Politics in general really bore the heck outta me, and especially American politics. Plus, I'm not even an American :) But what the heck, I bought it for the principle of supporting what you guys are doing here, so I'll give it a whirl, perhaps I'd like it anyway :)

I seriously doubt that people didn't pick up the game just because of that. It had something to do with it, sure, but the the main problem was that its production value was lesser than the Age of Empires series, the sounds were weird, the graphics were simply decent, and to top it all, it was addressed to a niche crowd. The TBS guys didn't like it because of its fast pacing (although I pause every two minutes just because of that), and the RTS guys wanted RTS, without having to deal with taxes,

Just won a quick game (1 hour) with the Egyptians, which is the easiest to play with. I simply built a temple (called "Seat of Power" in the game), invoked Isis, the Egyptian god to that magically and greatly bolsters the number of my civilians, so I replenished my towns, built about 10 fully upgraded forts, all packed with tiny angry Egyptians, and easily slaughtered all of my attackers. Eventually, though, I simply purchased the thrones of all of the neighbouring empires, since 8 town

I completely concur, Seven Kingdoms 2 was a RTS masterpiece, and its briilance is overshadowing RTS's even today. Amazing game. Although, Seven Kingdoms 1 had a few bright ideas that didn't make it to Seven Kingdoms 2, but Seven Kingdoms 2 is still the better game. I suggest everyone to try it, its graphics are not horrendous like old games, they're just effective. I really and truly suggest every RTS fan to at least try it and see how a complicated RTS with TBS ideas is carried out, ju
ZJBDragon: It's people like you that keep me away. Generally, I play these games to get away from people. I feel no need to log on, get pasted by a vitrol-spewing internet tough-guy who has nothing better to do than play games all day every day. I play because it's a pleasant diversion and a chance to relax.
Hear Hear! Excellent post, ZJBDragon! You've depicted precisely my thoughts and feelings on the on-line matter.
If a game's copy protection has the effect of making my ownership temporary, ie limited installs/activations and the like, then it is effectively a rental, not a purchase. In that case, I will pay exactly what I would pay to rent a game, and nothing more.
I have to, reluctantly, somewhat agree to that remark. psychoak, you can, and encouraged to, call or Email the tech support under these circumstances. This will set you back a bit, true, but I believe it's worth

You didn't seem to read or notice the rest of my post. Like I said, the game will be eventually cracked, so this entire limit will be rendered sterile in a time period of 2 years. It is basically just to limit you from installing a fresh game on too many computers at once, that's all. Besides, honestly, did you ever encounter the issue which prevented you from installing the game since you already installed it too many times before? Don't give me that, I'm sure you didn't. This is just
Gormoth1: Yes while not needing the CD is good, the limited installs is not. Especially when its limited to 3 and there is no way of "revoking" a used install (which could be as easily achieved as by performing a verification check).
With all due respect, once you buy a single copy of the game, under any circumstances, you should NOT be allowed to install it on more than one or two computers. And while I might understand your concern regarding mis-indentification errors,

Oh, come on, guys, stop complaining already. DRM sucks, true, but this new method will actually allow you to play without your CD! This is actually a step in the right direction for DRMs. This means that I won't have to wait and search for a crack in order to install the game on my gaming laptop (I never use CD-required games on the go), and the guys who created the game will still protect their intellectual property, at least on launch day. Mass-Effect is an RPG, which means t
Do you guys know its 2008?
Do you understand that they are making fun of themselves? I mean, really, what other major Developer\Reseller team can make fun of themselves and get away with that? Their PR people would have all of them executed in their cubicles by now. Sheesh, you guys are so great. Not just because you are actually doing something different with your game, but your entire attitude. If something doesn't work, you just say it outright and aim to fix

Nah - no micro at all. Surviving frigates deserve some experience, I agree. It will give players more motivation to keep them than to simply throw them away as cannon fodder.

Alpha Centauri is really one of the best, if not THE best 4X games ever released. Little do people know that Brian Reynolds (the guy who created the unrecognized Rise of Legends, which was awesome in its own right) was the real mind behind Alpha Centauri. Sid Meier mainly put his name on the cover in order to augment sales. Too bad Brian Reynolds really doesn't get the recognition he rightfuly deserves. The guy is a true genius.
Especially if I've turned against a former ally.
Alright, that one just sucks. I never play online just because of this type of behavior. You're either an ally, or an enemy, not both. The player you're playing with depends on the fact that he's allying with you and probably leaves his colonies right next to yours without nearly any defenses, while his fleets are far away, helping you BOTH clean your enemies. I would hang up on you as well, and F*^% the loss. Sham
Look at the pirate base... 19 or 20 turrets, and I've never lost a ship to those defenses. Kill the fleet, pick off the turrets one by one. Static defenses don't work against a mobile opponent. At best, they work to slow down an attacker or augment a defense fleet. But your idea to extend the range of the turrets.. now thats a thought. Make them cover the entire gravity well and they'd be a decent defense weapon. Imagine jumping into a system with 20 turrets and all of them able to hit yo

Thanks so much for the tips, I won a 4vs4 match with hard AIs! I gotta tell you, I love the Desolators and their swarming missiles so much, I can't get enough of 'em. Watching 5 huge volleys of missiles impact into target gives me so much joy, and then watching another 5 coming right on their tail. They are pure killers.. The only problem is that the Desolator's unit acknowledgement voices are horrific: "DO YOU THREATEN ME?!?!?!" "SPARE THE PLEASANTRIES!!!!!" "SPARE

Nah, I wanted stronger defenses and I was gravely mistaken. I simply needed to learn how to play the game and shut up :) I used to put all the eggs in one basket and simply build everything and attack, yet diving your fleet is the key to defense. A 7-9 defenses turrets + 2-4 Hangars + 1-2 Repair bays + A capital ship (should be your battleship) and maybe a few frigates here and there (really nothing much, 3-6 will do), and you can defend against most heavy assaults. At late game, you ha

I can play the game from start to finish without a single drop of frames per second on my laptop on max settings 4xAA on 1280X768. Granted, with a Geforce 8600GT and 3GB of ram it packs more punch than a standard laptop, but we are still talking about a laptop, here. My Desktop with E6600 and Geforce 8800GTS on 1366X768, and a mere 2GB of ram can run it rather well, too. Seriously, you really need to check things out. Perhaps there's a problem behind the scenes with drivers, co

Pssshh, that's not even a contest, TA, hands down :P
Its funny how you don't even see how much credit where none is due you give this game. I can play the TEC and the Advent quite well, they are mostly self-explanatory, and their capitals pack quite a punch. But when I try to play with Vasari, I'm squashed for some reason. Perhaps I simply don't get them properly, but their capitals really feel wimpy against other races' capitals. Their battleships really seem fragile, and even though their carriers capitals are awesome, they cannot seem to hold too much on their own. Basically, I need some early to mid-game playi
