Thanks, Annatar! Can you clear up a few things? 1) If you find one every 15 planets, on the average, and there are 9 artifacts, then "insanely large" is 135 (9x15), if I'm following you right? (Related: by 15%, you must mean 15% of planets, not 15% of the time you Explore Planet, eh.) 2) Exploration bonusses always show up with the first Explore Planet, right? 3) When you say "Some maps force artifacts to certain planets", you must be talking about how planetary syste

... or does anyone simply know, via the code, whether it's possible? I'm making an odds table of how frequently they are found (to help in deciding when to spend on Explore Planet). It'll be a little more precise to know if Artifacts can be found on home (start) planets.
Both of those look great... Your Clan ones looks nicer, and has everything much more neatly on one page for each Cap ship, Spartan, including a nice little table for the three Ability ranks. I've been taking screencaps of every Cap ships' progression through the ranks of all abilities ... anybody want it? It's just a jumbled pile of screencaps ATM; I don't have the time to do anything more right now.
Is there a database or whatever that lists all the (capital) ship upgrades, with the in-game description and a list of all the affected variables at each level of the ability? Thanks if you can help!
P.S. Actually it might be enough if you moderators were to pin one simple post at the top of the message board. All it has to do is say "How to turn off auto-tracking of ships", then explain what we're talking about, and how to get to the camera.setting. There's no need to copy all this thread. I can write it up if anybody wants.
Re: the topic, I would LOVE to see Sins plus something like [link="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/independencewar2edgeoc/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;reviews"]Independence Wars 2[/link]. Maybe with a little [link="http://www.gamespot.com/pc/sim/freelancer/review.html?om_act=convert&om_clk=tabs&tag=tabs;reviews"]Freelancer[/link] (trade) thrown in. Here's hoping we - and game developers - live a long time! :CONGRAT:
Re: the topic: WTG, Sins! Show the world that plenty of us want a great great 4X and/or space opera game!
Rhedd, that's cool. I can especially see folks who want to "experience being there" liking it. In that way it's very cool. But in the heat of battle, I do *not* want my cursor doing "extra moving" on me... not when my ship and/or the target ship are already moving, thank you very much. So it's great that Ironclad included a camera.setting so we can turn it off, if we want. All we (who were concerned about it) had to do was ask, and kryo stepped right in. All is good!<b
kryo, that's got it! works perfectly. THANKS, BRO! as far as I'm concerned, a simple note in the README for the next version concerning this camera.setting is enough. just so folks know where to go, if they don't like it. we have definitely seen a few people who adamantly don't like it - but we have not seen tons of people complaining. (maybe it's the folks who played SC and know things can be better? shrug) AFAIK, this is the first thread on it.
Right, I don't know why they have "Zoom to Cursor" as a toggle; it's useless when disabled. I don't know what it means by "zooming to the focussed object" when it's disabled; it only seems to focus in on the exact center of the screen, regardless of whether there's even anything there. We want "Zoom to Cursor". We just don't want the auto-tracking that comes with it. Does anyone know of a hotkey, or a .setting change, that can stop it? * edit * That's right, Paladin. S
No that's not it Draser ... like Kreyson says, it just does it automatically. I don't see anything likely in user.setting. Maybe it is this "ActionCameraZoomInstantWithContext" I see in uimappings.setting, but I don't know how to try messing with this. (These are in c:\docs and settings\[your name]\local settings\app data\ironclad games\sins\setting.)
Every(?) time I change zoom with my mouse wheel while I'm in a planetary system, the game starts tracking the movement of some ship or other. I have to side-scroll a little to get it to stop. I don't want the view always moving on me. I can't figure out any setting to stop this behavior. How can I turn it off? Thanks!! - Mike
Is there any reason to have more than 8 labs ... do "extra" labs speed research? Thanks if you know!
Thanks Doocc ... as I up the Hardness (or Ironclad improves the AI, Malekish), I can see how it would matter more. FWIW now that I am at least sprinkling them through my planets for the Allegiance bonus, every now and then this seems to help when I take an enemy planet (their loyalty dissolves faster). I never knew what the color in the phase lines meant ... thanks Doocc!
If it affects surrounding planets, yeah, it sounds like having a sprinkling of them would be worth it. And yes, in a slowly-moving slugfest I can see them being important. But the AI just isn't flexible enough for things to become a slugfest... yet. I'll be notching up the hardness in future games. But for now I just run around with a very few, very big fleets and knock the crap out of any fleet or system I come to. :P Still, there is a bit of chasing around in the early-mid game.
Ok, I guess I didn't watch long enough, to see Allegiance rise... Will more Media/Culture structures cause Allegiance to rise more? Or is it a max 10% in the system its in, regardless of how many? :edit: Wait a minute. Trading Ports and Refineries give a lot more than 10% to income and extraction. And I'm moving forward too fast to bother with overwhelming enemy planets near mine with culture. So, even given I missed all those points, they still don't seem useful - IF
I'm on my third game ... so ok, the AI is not that great, but soon I'll probably be playing vs. multiple AIs. Anyway, To me, the best defense is a good offense. Which is to say, I'm usually expanding pretty fast. With this kind of playing, it seems to me like the only use of Media/Broadcast buildings is that they slightly delay me from taking neutralized planets. If Sins had more of a "dug in" feel to it, like say Civ 4, I can see Culture being more important. But for me, it'
No problem. I should've thought to link it up, as well. Since you fixed the problem - and easily - all is more than forgiven. The music's nice!
Right - each level of Dev. Mandate effectively means you can make one more logistical structure at EVERY planet you hold, even the crappy little ones that initially don't let you have any logistics at all. Nice!
Ah, cool. That's good!
The TEC research item "Development Mandate" (Empire / Policy / level 5) says it adds civilian slots. I can't tell exactly what this means... population? And ... is it any good? Thanks if you can help!
I also only play solo. Sins is fine for that. Also, you can issue orders when Paused. You can even make contingent orders, e.g., if you are working on a particular research tech, you can place an order to make the structure that the tech allows. Of course, it won't start actually being built until the research is complete. Like they say, the AI isn't so great. But they can keep you on your toes, because of how the AI can pop up unexpectedly, given how the maps work. A long game could la
Wow that did the trick for me, psugar ... I vaguely recalled I had turned Sound Hardware Acceleration totally Off when trying to troubleshoot something for another game. (It didn't involve sound, and turning it Off didn't help ... but I forgot to turn it back on.) As soon as I turned Hardware to Full, the crackle and pop is totally gone. From both music and f/x. (It happened instantly, but I waited a until tonight's game session to make sure it "stuck".) Great! Thanks! Wow that
Hi Anthony, I made a post concerning crackling sounds [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=408&aid=178030"]several days ago[/link], but no one replied. My situation sounds different from yours... but I get the impression that sound problems are not common. I get crackles and pops with both music and all other sound, both speakers and headphones. Sounds exactly like the old DOS days when something wasn't quite right, if you were around for those days. I have a S
Sweet - that'll do it. Thanks, folks!!
