Hi folks, This wiki ( www.SoaseWiki.com ) was abruptly redirected to sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com on Wednesday without any apparent notification (that I've seen). Does anyone know what the deal is? Did someone hijack it with a re-direct?? I sunk tons of research into vanilla SoaSE and posted it to SoaseWiki. Also, IMHO, it had much better feel and organization than the wikia one. Now it seems to have all disappeared. Ok, not all of it.

Shrug, I can't see it as being real hard. It might take a while - but it's entirely do-able. The AI's problem is that it's too predictable. 1) Expand early to get what you can, until early borders become clear 2) Build a lot of defenses on your front lines. Always include a PJI 3) Move your fleet(s) to a system BEHIND your frontline gravwells. Hopefully there's a place where they can cover more than one frontline gravwell. 4) The AI will typically jump

ok, hmm... I guess it's a lot harder to "reconstruct" it now (versus if I already spidered it)... any way to automate this? :P P.S. Thanks for the reminder about google's cache... and the tip about spidering!

I always used the www.soasewiki.com site because it looked cooler (like the forums here), and presented info a lot better IMHO. I for one just like long data tables comparing things side by side... not cute little individual icons (for ships or structures, etc.) that then show you only one item's data - nothing side by side, and so much clicking. Somebody at the wikia site continally "borrowed" stuff (m

It used to be at www.soasewiki.com but as of an hour(?) ago that link brings you to sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com. Also they didn't carry over a lot of my research (RedKnight on the old wiki) and I can't even sign in. Is the switchover authorized or is somebody hijacking the site? Thanks!

Hi Reiver, Yes, I know what you mean. For some tables like https://www.sinsofasolarempire.wikia.com/wiki/Planet_Types#Planet_Bonuses (hmm... why can't I replace the link with text?), I had to combine info from 3 files, including English.str. A bit of work, but not too much. I can turn all the .entity files into text wih a parser? Cool - can you point

I don't know modding, but do want to look at the .entity files to see info I can use for the Sins wiki. Can somebody help a total mod n00b - is this GUI something I could use to do this? And what is this GUI - a file downloaded from the Library? Ultimately all I need is one simple text conversion of all the .entity files. I'm not interested in changing them. Currently I only have vanilla Sins but may get Entrenchment sooner or later. Thanks if you can help. And thanks for the

Hi all, I've been away from Sins for a year. I'm a solo player and just tried a game of me vs. 3 hardest AIs on the Twin Empires map. Are my eyes serving me right? Are my cap ships "forgetting" to jump out of system, if they get hit with the ability that disables everything? A Vasari fleet is attacking me, although I can't remember what they have that disables everything. Anyway, Why are my cap ships forgetting their orders? Thanks - RK

Without reading any of the thread, and to answer the topic: Yes. I guess. I want an opponent when I want it, is the first thing. If there was such a thing as, knowing you'd get somebody right about your level of expertise, who isn't some kind of trickster, et cetera, I'd play online. But you can't, don't, and won't. I'm 50 and not so good with the click-fests. But I'd like to think I'm good with the thinking and strategizing. So I play solo, with a LOT of pauses to review what

I understand that bringing down a trade ship gains the enemy some credits. But does it cost the owner much? Aside from the fact that, according to the wiki, your trade ship takes 25 seconds to regenerate.

There is a lot of good stuff here, and I haven't read all of it. One thing strikes me about cap ship abilities, though: Too often, cap ships will waste all their AM casting anything on autocast when even the wimpiest trade ship shows up. Then be out of AM when the real fight shows up. (This is with 1.15.) This really sucks, and these abilities would be MUCH MORE COOL if you could put limits on Autocast, like, "only fire Kol's Flak Burst when there are X strike craft in range", or what

Ah ok, now I see. And a couple of good tips. Thanks, Star Emperors! Don't go committing too many sins of a solar empire. Especially if you're Roman Catholic. J/K! - RK

There is a big difference in a game against 7 AIs if teams are locked vs. if they are unlocked, if they are all put on separate teams. They are decidely punier and easier to kill if teams are locked. I am not sure exactly what is going on ... maybe they've only signed trade agreements and gotten more money when they can team, or maybe they're out there making allies and taking each other down (which, of course, happens sometimes), but a game on a large map versus AIs that are not lo

How can I see who's fighting who, among the AIs? Aside from witnessing them fighting in a gravwell. Civ4 has a nice third-party relations screen. Does Sins have it somewhere? I haven't found it. Thanks if you can help! - RK

Wyvern, for details on how they work, see the wiki [link="http://www.soasewiki.com/index.php/Trade_Port"]Trade Port[/link] and [link="http://www.soasewiki.com/index.php/Orbital_Refinery"]Refinery[/link] pages. Cykur, each owned extractor can support 3 refineries... you must've made a mental type there, eh. It's an interesting question, whether Trade Allies will extend each others' longest chain. The description over the Trade Alliance button certainly sounds like it. But I

Great math, guys. I like the way you're evaluating, Cykur. I personally wouldn't call Cargo Holds "massive". I'd call it 30%. ;) Any thoughts on Resource Focus, folks? Seems to me that Advent should just go with Trade Ports (i.e., credit income). Focus is iffy. Can be sweet on a desert startworld map, though (36 log. slots and 4 extractors).

Regicide, building a refinery is the same as building *one* extractor (at 100% allegiance), *if* the refinery has 6.3 extractors to service in its domain. More realistically, one would put a refinery at a place with, say, 9 extractors. Then each refinery is like "building" ~1.5 extractors. If you roughly consider metal and crystal to be worth 3x credits (e.g. 100 metal = 300 credits), then TEC refineries cost 2400 credits. So a well-placed TEC refinery costs about 10 times as much as an extracto

I'm thinking we're all right on this one ... the Advent may be disadvantaged long run, but you can make up for it, and ultimately it doesn't play a big deal, except in really unusual protracted games ... But the insight that surprises me is how expensive refineries are on an absolute scale, like Boco said. And Homefleet, that's a revealing way of putting it ... if you build 1 refinery in a decent place (minor correction: a refinery uses 4 log. slots), it's about equal to having 1

Hmm, well, I still think Advent are crippled economically - but it's only gonna show if you have a long-term game against a very strong opponent. IOW in a game where every penny counts, Advent doesn't get as many pennies. In easier games vs. AIs, it doesn't show because they're just too easy. Regicide, Allure is very high level. A person has probably effectively won by then, don't you think? I still think you've got a good point, Boco ... if it takes half an hour for a refinery

17 Replies 12,211 Views

Boco, your numbers are right. I also have only been playing against the AI. Have you tried ggainst large numbers of hard AIs teamed against you? I suspect it matters a lot more on entrenched games. It'd also be good to have some MP folks comment... It may be true that it's just too much of an investment! Bobucles, those pages are saying that Advent has more trouble with trade (they're the only race that can't increase it with research) and with refinery income (Resource Focus i
