"Just to have an opinion, too". Although it's How's list, we are calling it like a democracy and giving our opinions. I suppose some semblance of a rating system might come out of this democratic clamor since we don't have ladder. So here comes my two cents... OK, so I am going to offer the perspective of "fear factor," meaning, "Who I really don't like to have as a neighboring enemy." This list in order of How's is as follows: Auqia,&nb
If you are looking for a mentor, it seems folks are generously giving of their time based on the volunteer list. So, if you're new to the game, and.... 1... want to be a pro-fighter and just kill everyone early, completely, and right away, try to sign up with PlayerSlayer 2.... want to get down economics, laying a foundation, and then dominating everyone, try to sign up with Howthe? 3... want a balanced approached, sign
I don't believe it is normal. ~There were games when I was seriously out spammed by an AI after human left.
Yes, this is what i observed, too. Hence, my question. A newer player dropped and then his AI was actually quite tough. It was early in the game, and it had only 3 planets but was churning out ships at a very fast rate. A strategy by a team could be to "drop" so that the OP'd AI took over. <p

OK, my true story embarrassing confession: I forgot to put down a turret after settling a planet to take out the siege frigate. My shame is public, too.
Does anyone know the settings for an AI after a player drops? Is it a generic "normal" AI? Or is there any possibility that it is an "eco" or "aggressive" AI and/or not "normal" settings (e.g., easy or hard, etc.)?
Really great thread! Keep it up!
Won't you find yourself at a disadvantage when you will need to build another Capital Ship?
As to answer, this is the wrong question. Better question: won't you find yourself at a disadantage when you don't have an extra frigate factory when enemy is raining corvettes or other such ships down on you? Greg gave the further reasoning: "You do not need to upgrade planet logistics early on when cash income is lowest." So, the capi
There are reports that "subjugation" ability of Coronata titan does not work at all, meaning that no enemy ships are ever captured. Is that true? If so, is it fixed in this patch?
Candido, I liked your list enough to put it on the thread for additional consideration. One question, what does the * mean?
The "*" is meant to designate a confident calibration, meaning players I have played with a lot. Some of the players play less often than others, and for these cases I do not have a great calibration.
Howthe's ranking are probably more accurate, especially 1v1 as he states is the criterion used for the list, but I also think about team play in 5v5. This requires the individual efforts but also the global assessment of play, including some team spirit. I'd move a few players around on his list for that. As a result, my captain's guide list agrees with Howthe's list for most players but with a few differences. *A Captain's Guide* My guide to "who I choose

Just to comment to DirtySanchez, for what's worth, when Rebellion was officially released, there are over 1000 players on line for a few days. In comment to the general theme of this thread: how to bring in new players. In my opinion, there are two types of new players. Case #1: Dialogue: VeteranPlayer: you didn't have a great game. You want some tips on how to improve? New Player: sure, that'd be great. This is th

I have to say that I am in a minority on Wail. I myself mostly play TEC, and I therefore do not play with Wail. I play against Wail. At first, I found it totally overwhelming. But now I have adapted strategies and compensations, and I find that Wail, though certainly powerful, adds an extra dimension of strategy to the game. You can't just "make a huge fleet and kill everyone". You have to think more, you have to anticipate more, most of the new so-called "OP" things require this adaptati
I must say I almost agree with this report. But the problem is that you have really missed the entire point. What is needed for balance is that the Orkulus must have a zero cooldown kostura cannon that takes no antimatter. That small change would finally balance the VR faction and people would then really start to play it in ICO. I cannot remember even once seeing VR played in ICO during last two months. Come on, devs, give the VR a needed buff, pleeeeze!! I thought SINS Rebellion was suppose
Great set of updates for 1.04. If I put myself in the ICO chair and ask, "What race would I wanted to play?," three things come to mind based on this update: 1. I might not actually want to be VL. STTC is not really a viable strategy any longer, except for scorched earth policy (which has its place). There are still a lot of good things for VL, so I still might want to be them. It means I'd rotate among VL, TR, TL, and AR. That's a good thing. 2. Notice that I didn'
It is no secret that the TEC Loyalists are quite out of favor on ICQ. What needs to be done to make them a competive choice again? The post is very good and informative. I need to disagree with the central thesis, however. In fact, some excellent players do choose TEC Loyalists. I was surprised aboutey this, so I thought about it for a while. I prefer TEC rebels myself. But why do excellent players choose the

Indeed, how nice to have a positive post. Refreshing. With enough of these, maybe the Devs will start reading the forums... This could be our reverse-psychology strategy to get the things we want. [e digicons]:D[/e]
So, has everyone forgotten the original mission statement/advertisement for SINS from its original release version? It was supposed to fill the niche of either (1) bringing some RTS players to hardcore 4X players or (2) bringing some 4X elements to hardcore RTS players. It was supposed to build a new kind of community. In this regard, you have to regard it as achieving its stated goals admirably. Note the numerous posts in this thread of type #2, i.e., many RTS players stating they'd neve

This is a question of kind of like, "How old are you?" Ok, my first one was Ohio Scientific, casette tape drive for storage, 20 characters on the screen, opened with a hexadecimal user interface in upper right corner. Circa 1977 (?). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ohio_Scientific
I find fighting "fire with fire" helps. That is, when a player won't quit but instead walks away from the keyboard and just leaves my allies and me sitting there... hoping we will quit... I then get pissed off, then stay calm, then go to bed. Usually I come back 15-18 hours later, and by then the non-quitting player has quit. [e digicons]:D[/e] That is always very satisfying. By the way, what do you have to do to actually defeat the bad guys.... killing
