Major Stress, I loved SFB, and played for almost 20 years (off and on). F&E and the campaigns our group created gave it scale with our own histories. Heck, we even had campaign-specific SFB newsletters. And then there was the Get The B-10 free-for-alls. Great fun! Good luck! Hydro Kzinti motto: if you don't attack and over run you can't devour any one.

Ah, SFB! I played that way back in the early 1980s off and on through ~2000, and still have all the assorted SSDs, maps, rules, etc in my attic. I had a great group of folks who used to have wild free-for-alls and great campaigns. I loved the Kzinti (SFB borrowed the Kzin from Niven’s Known Space – don’t ask me how). But, it got stale, and then it got really stupid, w
Hello, It looks like 0.03c is in WinRAR format - otherwise I have no idea what to do with a "SoA_2_0.03c.rar" file. Previous version (0.03a adn 0.03b) were ZIP. Do I need to buy WinRAR to unpack this file? Or will the trial version work? Thanks, Hydro
Well, that explains it. I'd better pay better attention....
I upgraded to IE7, restarted, re-loaded Impulse from this web site, restarted, and then fired up Implulse again from my desktop and when that didn't work then from Sins (just to be sure) and I still can't get Sins to update to v1.17. Sins and other Stardock games show up in Impulse under "My Games", where Sins shows up as v1.16 (updated 4/22/09). I don't see an "Install Update" button or option, and it certainly isn't happening automatically like it did previously. Obviously I'm missing somet
BSG is the only television I watch. The rest is a wasteland, except perhaps Discovery and History Channels. I'd likely cancel cable but for BSG. In my opinion BSG is as ground-breaking SF as Babylon 5 was in the 90s. Perfect? No. Lots of new takes, and insights into humanity? Yup. There are a lot of loose ends, though. I wonder how they're going to clean them all up.
I'm not sure I'm ready for more than standard difficulty. I've done quite a few medium maps. Perhaps I should move up to large? HydroAC
The TEC v TEC battle was good, but I had a real hard time seeing the ships since the background was so dark. They were at best a silhouette when there were explosions or the planet was in the background. That’s why I almost always change the background to red or light blue by going to Effects and clicking Colored Skyboxes and/or Deep Space Colored Skyboxes on and off until I get
I hope the SoA2-specific structures have lots of hull and shields. SoA2 ships do so much damage that they wipe out orbital infrastructure. In fact, if a few cruisers get behind the lines the AI is effectively hosed – every orbital goes down before the AI has any hope of making a comeback. One of my favorite gambits is to send a small squad of Akiras on a suicide mission to an enem
I was thinking the same thing: 2 or 3 level 6 Marzas would take out the little guysand damage all the Caps within range. That would even the score - assuming they didn't get interrupted or blown to bits before they were done with their missile barrages. By the time the Big M's finish the Vasari's are browning their shorts and looking for a hasty exit. The missile barage is so useful I turn off all autocast for my Marzas - then they charge in and hit the candy colored red button...</
Here's the link to the huge Fed-Klingon battle for the SoA mod. http://www.moddb.com/mods/star-trek-sacrifice-of-angels-2/videos/soa2-klingons-vs-federation#imagebox Seeing it again it isn't nearly as cool as freaktong's since much of the images are too far away and the background is too dark, but the explosions sure are amazing! HydroAC
I think I saw a shipyard. Were you cranking out ships during the battle? It went long enough! Amazing battle! The only thing like it was a huge Star Trek Mod Klink-Fed battle. Ships were blowing up all over the place, and the Feds lost. Hydro
I’ve played a good dozen games (mid size, me as Fed wotj Rom, Dom, and Klinks) with 3b now and, contrary to my first whining about not getting a CAP to start, I have to say it plays MUCH better. I like it since it makes me work harder. Sure, having a Sov smash everything is nice, but there is no strategy there. Now I have to think where my resources will go, respond to moves by t
Great! Good suggestions! Thanks, HydroAC
The background colors of the solar system vary, but sometimes they are so dark I can barely see the ships when they duke it out or even see the phase lines and gravity rings around planets. I've tried gamma correction, but that completely washes out the info screens to make dark background have enough contrast to see what is going on. Are there other options so I can select the lighter blue or red solar system backgrounds? Or am I stuck jacking the gamma correction way up when I
Initial cap ships are disabled in 03b (as was intended, according to the documentation). Well, that kind of sucks. I'll have to adapt. HydroAC
I've spent much of the weekend to play almost a dozen games as Feds with a few one-on-one vs Klinks and a three way with the Roms and Klinks (easy, then normal). It's a LOT OF FUN to see the terrific ships fly around in fleets. The Klinks are nasty looking, as they should be. Roms are sleek, and quite a few of the ships look similar to those I recall from Star Fleet Battles. I had more than a few restarts and surprises. The first nasty surprise is that my Sov got pasted by a lone Romu
I’m a noob but have gotten a few tips here and there that have helped me out a lot. <span style="fon
I’ve played my first game of the SoA and WOW!! The intro is First Class, the ships are beautiful, and the setup has LOTS of ST
SageWon - that would ge GREAT! A summary of the CAP abilities, that they are useful for, some hints on how to pair them, and suggestions for beginners on what to consider would be VERY helpful! We can look up the CAPs anywhere, but what is missing is what they do. For instance, what abilities should be micromanaged? Are some of much greater worth against some enemies than others? What are some suggested combos? I'm just learning to manage the CAP abilities instead of letting t
This is a fun thread! Let's throw a few more interesting theories into the air: 9
Do wormholes allow transit to other wormholes? I've seen AI fleets and disappear appear at wormholes, but I can't seem to follow or use them. Obviously this has huge strategic implications with regard to choke points.
In the early game I’ve noticed they tend to attack the nearest settlement when I lose the bidding war. This is OK since I can fortify and (as another poster suggested) leave a CAP there to get lots of experience. I’ve also observed them moving toward their targets (generally ignoring my ‘neutral’ forces – and I get to take pot shots). <p class
I built a new quad core PC earlier this year (my brother in law is an Intel Rep - free motherboard and top line CPU!). The word from my computer geek friends is that Vista was a memory hog, prone to driver-related crashes, would not work with some peripherals, and had some performance problems. XP worked fine with me, so my new rig got XP. I've had no problems whatsoever. <span style="font-size: 7.5pt; f
On some games the background is so black I have a real hard time seeing the phase lines and gravity wells. Sometimes the backgrounds are brightly illuminated and seeing these strategic items-of-interest is no problem. Is the color and type of background random? Or is there a user setting I’m missing? <p class="MsoNormal" style="margi
