I'd second Dominions 3. Also, have you tried Paradox's titles? Europa Universalis 3 and it's expansion packs can be had for cheap. Also, they are releasing Hearts of Iron 3 this Friday. For turn based, give Sword of the Stars a shot!
Demigod and Diablo 2
Just out of curiousity, were you playing Diablo 2 with the new mod that allows for all screen resolutions to be used? If you have, I'd be curious to see how it actually played.
Picked up Dawn of War 2 due to the 50% sale Relic offered. I always thought the skirmish and multiplayer modes were complete rubbish (and still think so), but for $25 I didn't mind picking it up and playing the campaign coop with a friend. Lot of fun, definitely worth the $25 for that.
It's a fantastic game. As others have said, the expansions really make the experience even better. Other than that, just prepare for a learning curve (as you've played the demo you're already well on your way, so that shouldn't be a concern).
Have you tried X3: Terran Conflict? If not, get it. Get it right now. Look! I even include helpful links, because I'm such a swell guy. Website: http://www.egosoft.com/games/x3tc/info_en.php Trailer: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/exclusive-aldrin-x3-terran/49492
I loved 1701, 1404 looks great. I'll gladly pick the game up... just as soon as they drop the install limit. Until then, well, I don't rent PC games. As for multiplayer, having played a few games of MP 1701 let me just say: there's nothing more pointless than multiplayer in a city builder.
Really? I'm completely uninterested in playing that game on my own, but I love playing it with
The complete lack of any kind of death penalty (well, other than lowering the monster's levels to make it easier for you) kinda killed it for me. Yes, I know there's a hardcore mode, and that's what I'd exclusively play but hardcore is a PITA when playing with a LAN group. I'd love something in between, but sadly nothing is offered and it's not moddable. Back to Titan's Quest mods for me :)
Service? What? Like charging all your EU customers the same price in a 1:1 ratio between dollars/euros? Or how about refusing refunds for any reason? Or maybe quoting pre-scripted responses to issues spouting out agreements and contacts? Pffft.
To be honest, that's not true. I've had Steam refund 3 or so games in the past.
I had it pre-ordered. Lack of MP caused me to cancel my pre-order. Why would I "upgrade" to 1404 when I'm happily playing 1701 with my friends right now? On top of that, the machine limit activation kills it for me. No Dawn of Discovery / 1404 for me!
So.... Dr.Gonzo... when are you going to do that whole going away thing you were talking about earlier? You've got enough emo twattage to power the local Jr. High for a year.
I notice a huge difference between Impulse and Steam on my 20mbit fiber connection. Impulse typically averages 1.5 megabytes / second transfer rate. Steam on the same weekened would rarely go above 300-400kbps.
I don't mean this in a rude way at all, but you're just ignorant. Not dumb or lacking intelligence, just seemingly new to entrenchment and therefore haven't worked out counters and stuff yet :) Just some basics. Assault Cruisers (the new anti-structure cruisers TEC and Advent have) will tear a starbase to shreds. Bombers also work EXTREMELY well against them. Starbases may be "retardedly overpowered", but assault cruisers outrange them. If you pull your
Arg! I just bought SotS a week or so ago. Damn you, Impulse, damn you! *shakes fist* :) On a side note, Evochron Legends on Impulse? Hell yes! Already own the game, but I'd love to see it get into more hands.
Cool, thanks for the feedback on the feedback ManSh00ter. Always been a big fan of your work and I'm really looking forward to your next update.
Halted if under attack? In someone's grav well? With even one hangar, how would they ever get it built? There's a large cost associated with a starbase. The construction time is quite long, during which it's defenseless and quite vulnerable. Even after being built, it's a little tougher than a single cap ship and can be easily taken down. Players have a long, long time to nuke it before it really poses any kind of significant threat. If you're pla
Again, I'm not even a Vasari player, but for those calling for a "nerf" to the Vasari starbase can you please answer the question? If a Vasari starbase is not able to take down an opponents starbase, how is a vasari player expected to crack a gravwell's defense? Again, Vasari completely lack any type of anti-structure cruiser. Their anti-structure unit IS their starbase.
#1 - It's in YOUR grav well. You have ample time to knock it out, both while it's constructing and while it's being upgraded. I mean a LONG time. Even after it's built, where are your bombers? Where are your assault cruisers to bombard the hell out of it? #2 -Vasari dont' get an assault cruiser, that's a big con. Use the fact that you do have them to your advantage. Some orgrovs could pulverize that thing when it's first be
Sword of the Stars Dominions 3 (pretty hardcore, but indie game so doesn't have great visuals) Civ 4: Get the mod called Fall From Heaven II GalCiv II
Love the look of this mod. Still not entirely sold on a couple issues though: 1. Turrets and their ungodly slow turning rates. It's way too easy to simply fly past turrets and lay waste to everything behind. 2. I like the LRM balance but I think they are too fragile. I generally have no problem slaughtering hordes of LRMs with light frigates, which IMO shouldn't be the case.
Multiplayer!
Problem is, I want to play the game on my schedule. If I want to fire up a game at 9pm and only play for 30 minutes, I want to do that. If I spend a whole Saturday on a game, I want to be able to do that. If I want to spend a leisurely game rather than counter flavor_of_the_month_strategy ad nauseum, I wanna do that to. Can't do those in online multiplayer.
Is there an updated (as of Entrenchment) ship damage chart available anywhere? I haven't been able to find one, other than the very nice one put together in early 2008. Was a handy thing to have!
Sins: Total War might be interesting, though. Have the turn-based layer in space, and then normal Sins-style tactical combat. That would be quite yummy!
That's kinda already done with Sword of the Stars though! That being said I think Sins' combat is great, I'd just like more strategy elements, maybe EU3 style.
Domina Subjugators restore hull.
I have both Steam and Impulse on my system and they coexist happily together. As a matter of fact, they get together for the occasional brunch and even send each other cards on the Holidays. It's really quite cordial. Don't you think Steam might be getting lonely on your system? I mean, it's there, caged and alone without another digital download service to hang out with. I've watched your copy of Steam try to play tennis by itself, it's quite sad. Think of the chi
Notice it's coming out for PC and Xbox360 - that is why both the game's scope and complexity are being stripped down. Gotta run on Xbox hardware and gotta appeal to the LCD.
