Long story short: ship design is not going to happen. You want the long version, search for the bazzilion threads on the topic. This game is an RTS, and there just isn't time in-game for this kind of thing.
./agree IC couldn't get the 4X thing going in this game .. So they opted for more of a RTS game instead.

I was hoping for another push back so that it would become what it was promoted to be. To bad I already paid lol... just proves again you shouldn't believe the hype on a website. I figured stardock also being being behind it was a safe bet :P Ah well... Getting a true 4x/RTS game was a bit to much for IC - so they opted for a rts with a tad more research options and a big "map". :NOTSURE: Ill give it a go on monday then its prob back to Sots/galciv2...
Much prefer it this way, as for most phase lane turns it actually makes it possible to hold a planet without a phase inhibitor. Indeed, it atleast means you have a front line and the defenses you build there have time to do their stuff. No more fleets just jumping through to your planets ignoring everything on the way.. Still, Im curious to see what other flavors IC thought of.
I played the demo and disliked what I saw.The game just seemed lightweight in all areas and the 3D starmap was dreadful.I actually think turnbased is much more suited to empire building games.I'm willing to bet a lot was sacrificed in Sins just so the devs could call it a trendy real time game. Looks like it right now - but - lets see whats gonna happen :/ Who knows in future betas all kind of thin
Gang, I'm honestly not sure why you all think Sins graphics are so bad or why you believe in less than a year's time everyone will think so. Have expectations on this area gotten so absurdly unrealistic since Crysis screenshots were released? What precisely do you guys expect? The game already uses gigantic textures for its models - textures that are on-par or larger than what most titles use. Ok, maybe some j
I've finally taken the time and wathed in-game movies made by Multianna. Ehm, it all happens SO FAST! Travelling, research... everything is so fast it is definitely more RTS than 4X... I know it's a beta but I really hope this will change. Dito - its nothing like a 4x/rts hybrid game right now... Its like a RTS with a limited map right now that makes you hop over from one planet to another. The patch not
I'm a bit curious about the actual gameplay, not the advertised gameplay in the FAQ and marketing pages, but the actual pacing of the game? I like the concept of RTS games, but they generally are build as fast as you can so you can overrun your enemy, or they overrun you. (Rush stragey I believe?) Neddless to say, I tend to stink big time at these games because I'm a bit more methodical in my thinking, or
Anyone find any yet? Seeing its that time of the year I thought this would be the best time to ask...
OT but I think peeps that are into BSG should keep an eye on these guys... (Updated Freespace2 engine if Im not mistaken, been a while I checked their site)
I'm pretty sure this is because of Defend Local Area. Set them on it in one system, then jump to another. I think it happens when they lose their auto attack target. Dito, had this happen today too... I put them on Defend Local Area, forgot to return it to Defend GW, and jumped em to another planet. After dealing with some of the locals that where close they decided to "fly" (not jump) home to
I have to somewhat agree that the entire jump lane thing right now seems only annoying and adds little. Choke points/frontlines dont exist as phase jump disruption is easily ignored by the short research tree, losses by defenses while powering up for the next jump can be ignored as they dont focus fire on intruders except for the first one to arrive, no biggy send out a dozen or two cheap scout frigs in the front. Im curious what the next betas bring - the given points by Blai
beta-1 stage is mostly about performance/compatibility - it even says so in the load screen. But I hope this is really so, because I do agree with some of the points made above and in numerous other threads already. One being the really small research tree and the very limited ship selection and tactics involved right now. But I already saw a post about this the AI is a long way from being done. At this point its a very limited RTS - with a slightly larger research tree(for a R
I played sins for the first time to day, Imo there is way to little research . But then again there can be too much. But there should at least have twice the amount there is now. I plow through the research too fast. I gotta agree somewhat - upping the costs and time wont solve it either.. I think for a game that somewhat wishes to take over the best things of a RTS and 4X game. The research tree should be so
In my opinion shipcaps are bad, but, options are never bad. Maybe an option could be added later on for the people who want to limit the number of units. I myself dont see the need for it, with later tuning of the economy/AI such large fleets might even not be possible and the problem solves its self. That and this is beta-1, performance is one of the things being tested right now.. and thus, you c
oh does that include the ships? (no offense) Yes, some of them. Ouch... Gameplay > gfx .. I always say.. but daaamn lol. Better add those moving turrets and some nice dmg decals to divert the attention of people actually zooming in, like mentioned above, it is 2007 after all. (note: I dont think the graphics are actually ugly, but I thought the beta was
also Oh! anyone else notice that income is small? I've only seen a few planets that go over 1.0 credit wise for taxes. Some - the smaller ones maybe with high upkeep (75). But If I keep culture up high I get more for sure. You are using broadcast centers right?
Also seem to have this problem on the default settings, tried lowering the settings, same problem. The rest of the game runs like a smoothly, till I press shift and start queuing up attack orders. Specs: Win XP Corp (SP2) AMD Athlon 64 3400 Nvidia Gforce 7600GS 1gb RAM SB Live (Latest drivers&Directx)
The work around for this is to disable the opening movies. Goto C:\Documents and Settings\YourUserName\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\Setting and open the file user.setting with notepad. Look for the word "ShowIntroMovies" and turn the following "TRUE" into a "FALSE". Save the file and reload Sins.
Done... starts up, stardock movie, ironclad movie... and then nothing more then a small black box upperleft of screen.. I do hear the music of the main menu I guess. Hmmm... Time for some beta/techhelp boards? The fix can be found here: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?forumid=402&aid=148253#1169559<

Got the mail .. downing it now.. Cant wait... Just something I noticed and just my personal opinion - Using tinyurl on a product page in stardock central looks silly and cheap - cant you guys just make a "link" to it lol.
Hi! The info on the game site is absolutely insufficient for me! There are all sorts of blablabla and stuff like "it's great!" and "it's fantastic!"... BUT I CAN'T EVEN UNDERSTAND, WILL IT BE REALTIME OR TURN-BASED?! In some announcements Stardock called it 'RT4X', but what does this stand for? Is it 'Rostbeef Tales of Four X' or something? :/ Try actually reading whats on
Good to see a date - cant wait!
Statement: WoW constantly remains to be pay to play despite is popularity and advertisement. Why is this bad? UBI Soft's Shadowbane (WoW's compeditor) became free to play after it's popularity soared recently, Anarchy Online the ground breaking sci-fi MMO became free because of it's extensive advertisement. Fact : Ubisoft closed down Wolfpack Studios/Shadowbane and made the game free to play for the time it had left. It was being canceled. Som
