You shouldn't have to forward any ports in order to join a gain. You most likely, however, have to have ports OPEN to join a game. And if the university has certain network traffic blocked, there's not much that can be done (other than bribe the network admin with a cookie). -HM

TN, The next step, although annoying, is to take the router out of the equation. Try with nothing between you and the wall except your DSL/cable modem. If you still have the problem, (and you continue to have all software firewall software turned off), then it's either: a. something your modem is doing b. something your ISP is doing Because simply connecting to Ironclad Online should be relatively easy. It's hosting a game that gives 99% of the trouble

Just out of curiosity Blair, why do some people get it so much more than others? I've played online with friends quite a bit and we've never run into this bug. Glad it seems to be working though. This is a great sign! -HM

Yes, yes, Ironclad has already stated that they want to do a campaign, but because they don't like standard RTS campaigns, we won't see their take on it until the expansion. -HM

Exactly. If you send the minidump file to the email Annatar specified, they will be able to analyze and help you determine why it crashed. They may need other information. So if they ask for a dxdiag report, or a save game, or a game replay, send them that too. -HM

Hey kryo, can you ask your Stardock mates to put up a pdf of Twilight "box art" that we can use on an Amaray DVD case? They did this for Dark Avatar, which was awesome. Thanks! -HM

I'm going to emphasize Harada's point. It's essential to upgrade the population of your planets, especially because when you obtain a new one, it's a DRAIN on your income. I tend to play Advent in 4v4 comp. stomps with three of my friends. I try to make a beeline to LRMs/Illuminators, build a few of those for good measure, then worry about economy. Doing this gives me a pretty good base to take over the asteroids and other planets right near me. A few Illuminators plus a cap. ship (

Make sure you have uninstalled the demo. Oh, and making a computer game IS a very complex thing these days. But today I can't even say, "If you're having problems switch to a console; they just work," because they don't anymore. They're mini-computers, and are inheriting a lot of the problems computers have. Fortunately Stardock doesn't farm their support out to Sri Lanka. So if you continue to have problems, email Stardock/Ironclad and they will help you out. On a

If you're using a 3rd party program to change the refresh rate from the default of 60, you may need to go into the Sins config file and manually change it to what you're using. -HM

My apologies, I was thinking of the initial structures to obtain metal and crystal. Yes, I wait on the refineries. This proves my point about how you can't listen to any loser on the forums willing to dispense advice. :) -HM

The most important thing is to get to understand about 80% of the concepts and go for it. Strategies and "ideal build order" is very subjective. For example, I think Coelocanth's advice for not building refineries early on is crazy (I think it's important to get all aspects of one's economy going ASAP), but if it works for him...great. My point is this: it might be best to take it all with the proverbial grain of salt, try a few different things, and find out through trial and error

You can search through the million-and-one threads on this, but the short answer is that Ironclad didn't feel they could adequately create a campaign in time for the game's release, especially since they do not like traditional RTS campaigns we're used to seeing. They plan to do one for the expansion. -HM

If you look at my Reply #6 [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/post.aspx?postid=300605&get=&p="]in the original thread on this topic[/link], you'll see that Ironclad did mention the possibility of doing a Mac port. Sadly, the interview seems to be lost to the ages. So you'll just have to take my word (and the others who saw it and replied to my message) for it. -HM

You can install it from the Internet as many times as you want, you can archive it to DVD-R as many times as you want, and you can install it from that archive as many times as you want. Simply, as Annatar says, put a copy of the Stardock Central install program on the same DVD-R as your archive. That way you'll have everything you need (in one place) to do the Sins install at a future date. -HM
I have GalCiv2 retail (Europe version). Can i buy the expansions (DA ans TA) download only via SDC?
Should be no problem. And if you've registered GalCiv2 via SDC, you can re-download that any time you want. -HM

If they decide to release Twilight in the stores, I expect it will be released as a bundle with GalCiv2 and Dark Avatar. I highly doubt it will be standalone, and I also doubt they will release it in stores as just an expansion. -HM
