Thank you Edix. It's reassuring to hear from someone who has the problem, but is handling the issue in a mature way. Yes, it stinks that the problem exists, but if what we want is the problem solved, the best solution is to help Stardock in uncovering it, and not yell and scream "fraud". -HM

carlsagan1, I sympathize that you're having problems, I really do. But if you think a bit, you'll realize that it's clear Ironclad simply didn't encounter this bug in all their years of development, because if they did, they would've fixed it before release. It's obviously trickier than one might initially believe. I don't think any of us can rightly say whether the bug is common or not. All we can say is it happens to some people, and it doesn't happen to others. I have pl

MegaVolt, first, if you think Starcraft networking is always fine, [link="http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&hs=Fhn&q=starcraft+network+problem+battle.net&btnG=Search"]you're sadly mistaken[/link]. Lots of people have complained about lag, a common performance problem with older networking techniques. To insinuate that Starcraft's network code is perfect and every game developer out there should make their code exactly like theirs is beyond a

I think it bears repeating that a minidump is simply a program crash. There are many reasons why you might get it. This particular multiplayer minidump, referred to as "the sync bug", is one of many reasons you might get the error. So just because you are getting a minidump error does not mean that the problem referred to in this thread is YOUR problem. -HM

Overloard: the answer, as Annatar said, is, "Ironclad will release this hotfix as a separate patch once they're sure it does the trick." -HM

There are some older posts on here about people having Paypal issues. I'm not sure how many did vs. how many didn't, and yes, it's definitely unfortunate that it's the weekend, but I'm sure it'll get fixed up as soon as they get your message. -HM

You should get an email from Stardock with your serial number. If after some time you still have not, you may have to contact [email protected] to see why there was an issue with the transaction. But I'm sure it'll get straightened out. -HM

If you are using the sync check executable, and have followed Blair's instructions, AND you still get a crash without the red text he mentions, it means that your problem is not the sync bug. What's left is: -the pathfinding bug -a crash due to your hardware -a crash due to your software (i.e. video drivers) Try sending your minidump file to [email protected], explain that you were using this exe, and hopefully they can help you find out what this crash was due

Caydr, Our systems are very similar: Shuttle SD39P2 | Intel Core 2 Duo Conroe [email protected] GHz (320 FSB) | Crucial Ballistix 2x1024 MB PC2-6400 DDR2 (@800, 4-4-4-12, dual channel mode) | NVIDIA eVGA 8800GTS 320 MB | Maxtor 320 GB SATA II (7200 RPM, 16MB cache, AHCI mode) | NEC ND-2510A dual-layer DVD-R drive | Mitsumi FA404M floppy drive/card reader | WinXP Pro SP2 Sins plays absolutely great. MegaVolt, Please, just think a bit. Do you honestly believe that games that are ten years old have the most robust networking code for today's PCs and Internet lines? Developers and programmers are constantly refining their software in an attempt to bring the best performance to its users as possible. Most times this benefits us all. But with every 10 steps forward, there's an unforeseen step back when things don't quite work right. Especially considering the fact that PCs and soft

MadTim, If you followed all the instructions, got the minidump, but did not get the results Ironclad speaks of, it means the crash you encountered was not due to the sync bug. What's left is: -the pathfinding bug -a crash due to your hardware -a crash due to your software (i.e. video drivers) Try sending your minidump file to [email protected], explain that you were using this exe, and hopefully they can help you find out what this crash was due to.<br

The important bit for Sins players: [I]Brad, Sins of a Solar Empire, by your own admission, has done very well. The support and tweaks to the game have already redefined the experience since its launch. When should we expect an expansion? BW - We're still working out the best timing in terms of marketing and distribution as well as development. If I had my way, it would be out this fall. But with Spore and Starcraft 2 looming, we have to take that into account. Plus, we

It could be this problem or it could be something else. The best way to be sure is to download the exe from this thread, follow the instructions in this thread, and if it crashes again, you'll know if it's the sync bug or something else. -HM

No, you should be able to patch up to 1.04, then, assuming you successfully created an account in the past (which it sounds like you did), login to ICO fine. You don't have to "set up" a new account. Just log in with your existing ICO name and pw and it'll let you in. -HM

Are you sure you went through the install and it successfully completed? There's no way after a proper install that the game will want the DVD in the drive. -HM

Monk-Dude, That's why I said up there that he might want to ask someone else about configuring specific routers. I don't know by any stretch all of those things on the market, and what they all do. It's enough for me to try to get my head around what's going on technologically. -HM

By the way, in case anyone technically inclined wants to know, my belief on why as a client you don't have to have forwarding done is this: As a client joining a game, you are initiating contact with the server/host. Thus, data transfer is initiated by you, and information is written to the router that explains exactly where the returned packet from the game server should be sent. So when the game server writes a packet back to your LAN, it goes through your router, the router does a

TCP 6000 and TCP 6112 are the only two ports you need. You do not need to forward all the ports in between. I believe that you can use the Sins settings file to change the default hosting port to something other than 6112 (which is the default). Someone who has fiddled around with this more than me should be able to confirm that this will work. I can't speak about UPnP, since I actually use a Linux PC to do my routing for me. And again, someone else can help out with

I will have to let The Monk help (not that I'm volunteering him, heh) with configuring specific routers, but I can do my best to try to explain this. If you have a router set up at your place, then it means that all the network traffic coming in from the Internet is only sending data to ONE ip address, and your router is doing the work in figuring out which machine in your place the information needs to get to. For some programs (i.e. hosting a Sins game) certain information

The key here is port forwarding. To host a game, you need to have TCP ports 6112 and 6000 FORWARDED to your local PC. It is not enough to simply have them open. -HM
