Since the developers are taking quite a bit of time to release something official, I suspect that the hotfix, in some way, will be different than the test fix that is in this thread. You are of course welcome to use the test fix. But remember that it is just a test file, and that it can only be used to play games against others that are also using the test file. -HM
Hollow Man
The hotfix has not been released yet. -HM
[link="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ballblazer"]Ballblazer[/link] was effectively their first game. Ah yes, Republic Commando was good too. -HM
Exactly. The standalone installer will read as 1.04, Stardock Central has 1.04.022, and Impulse has 1.04.025. But they're all the same. :) -HM
JasonH2, there are two files right in this very thread (one will test to see if the crashes you get are the sync bug, the other is a test fix for the sync bug). Simply read through the posts and do accordingly (you have to wipe out your settings file). But note that it has NOT been officially released, thus, chances are the final hotfix will differ from the file that is contained in this thread. It is also not compatible with 1.4, so you will only be able to play with others that al
You do not have the latest version of the game. You can use Stardock Central or Impulse to download it, or get the standalone patch here: [link="https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update.aspx"]https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update.aspx[/link] -HM
For hosting a game, your best bet is follow the advice given here by The Monk: [link="http://www.kiclan.com/monk/Networking_and_SINS_by_the_Monk.pdf"]http://www.kiclan.com/monk/Networking_and_SINS_by_the_Monk.pdf[/link] More details are [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]here[/link], but basically you need to forward TCP ports 6000 and 6112 to your hosting PC's IP address. -HM
It may take a day or so. But if the problem is what I think it is, they deal with it all the time, and they'll straighten it out. -HM
You can also try [email protected]. It sounds like they may have to merge your email accounts. -HM
Read [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]The Monk's guide[/link], which will help you make sure that TCP ports 6000 and 6112 are being forwarded to your PC. That's the cause of most people's issues. -HM
"When it's done." They're probably busy working on the game! Although they should just skip out and go to Hawaii... -HM
Hah, if only it was luck. Stardock just happens to be good at knowing their audience (both in desktop customization and strategy gaming), thus delivering a product their potential customers are willing to pay for. -HM
It depends on what the file says. Perhaps your problems are already known. For me, they were able to say, "Yes, this is the multiplayer pathfinding bug." So now I don't have to sit wondering if it's my problem or theirs, because they've clearly identified my crash as a problem on their end. -HM
If it is in fact a game issue then they will be able to tell you EXACTLY why it's happening. Send the files to [email protected]. -HM
You also need to make sure you take the custom ship and race configuration files. -HM
I already have to suffer with this when it comes to Steam games, so with Stardock I'm sure to buy their CDs/DVDs in case I want to start from step zero. Fortunately with Sins I have had no trouble with 1.04. So of course the next question, which it doesn't seem like you want to pursue right now, is, "Why are you getting so many crashes?" I'm not quite sure why you're hesitant to send info to Ironclad. I did it with the one crash I got, and promptly got an answer back as to why it was
The only way you can downgrade to 1.03 is if you: a. Archived the game after you updated to 1.03 b. Archived the game prior to 1.03 and saved the standalone patch for 1.03 c. Own the DVD and saved the standalone patch for 1.03 Remember that if you play a version prior to 1.04 that you will not be able to play on Ironclad Online. -HM
If you just added a router, your best bet is follow the advice given here by The Monk: [link="http://www.kiclan.com/monk/Networking_and_SINS_by_the_Monk.pdf"]http://www.kiclan.com/monk/Networking_and_SINS_by_the_Monk.pdf[/link] More details are [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/174313"]here[/link], but basically you need to forward TCP ports 6000 and 6112 to your hosting PC's IP address. -HM
It is highly likely the problem is on your end. Random reboots can be caused by many things. I would start by: 1. Testing your memory 2. If overclocking, change clock speeds for CPU and/or video card back to stock 3. Updating your video driver 4. Updating your sound driver The drivers may be the easiest place to start, because it could explain why older games, such as Civ4, don't exhibit the behavior. -HM
Once logged in here, click the "My Account" link, then click "Stardock Account". You'll probably be prompted to login again. Once you do, then click "Logon Info", and from there you can change your password. -HM
Your message is unclear. Did you install the game from DVD, or download it using Stardock Central or Impulse? -HM
You need to either install Stardock Central or Impulse to get updates, or download the standalone patch from here: [link="https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update.aspx"]https://www.sinsofasolarempire.com/update.aspx[/link] -HM
If you've changed your monitor's refresh rate from the default of 60, You may also need to manually change that setting in the file that Annatar talks about above. I had to do this in order to get display options to show up in game for my monitor (which I have set to a refresh rate of 85). -HM
My friends and I play against hard AIs all the time and we don't get crashes. We've only gotten one, and went sent to Ironclad, they told us it was the pathfinding bug (see Droom1's reply). If you get a crash, follow kryo's instructions [link="https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/300766"]here[/link] and Ironclad will do their best to tell you why the crash is occurring. -HM
There is an Advent tech up the tech tree that allows one to change their trade ports into refineries. -HM
