If you preorder but don't want to play the beta, you won't be charged yet. You are charged as soon as you download it (it's no extra cost, they are just taking your payment for the game early).

I'm definitely against Winner Takes All. It just feels all wrong in the setting in question. Here's an alternative: Certain units like heroes are quite likely to escape a losing battle all by their own. Dragons are especially likely to escape since they can fly off. Fleeing heroes loses battle morale and a fleeing dragon even more (if your dragon scarpers you might as well pack it in). You can't expect your footsoldiers to

[quote who="LeBlaque" reply="39" id="2628697"]Not being a BetaTester (yet) I apologize for the potentially elementary question: With regard to essence: Is essence an infinitely available resource or one that is finite? That is, can the essence pool continue to grow throughout the course of the game or is it a fixed amount for the entire game (e.g. 1,000 essence points maximum shared among all throughout the game). When I play Elemental I can't help of thinking of the version of the traditional song The Trees They Do Grow High by Pentangle especially when it comes to the dynasty stuff. I wonder if they'll include something like that in the HBO Game of Thrones.

The impulse thing with the patches is simply so that pirates can't warez it and get all the freebie extras without paying anything to start with. Impulse anywhere should help with offline issues, but in general people who play without internet connections don't usually get any patches to games anyway.

I'd say no, since things keep changing. They want to be working on the game, not spending time rewriting manuals constantly.

If you install it from the box, it's a retail edition. The main point is that you don't get the updates if you don't register (so only legit users can get the nice cool updates). The combo they have means that you get the retail SE box on release, but you can beta test beforehand.

With respect to the original question, it means they can cast magic. Which is very useful. Once you have a few people to cast teleport, you can effectively move armies instantaneously within your realm. I'm thinking that this could lead to some very interesting strategies when it comes to border conflicts.
