Yarlen posted I think Tuesday in the 1.04 preview thread that they're not aiming for sometime next week. Saint / Sinner ... :) Yea ... we briefly studied that guy : my « Literature of Utopia » course also includes non-francophone writers. My term paper will be on Plato's Republic. I'll be using Karl Popper's critical perspective against Plato's totalitarian utopia. But, I would rather be a sinner ... « 1.04 demon, I beseech thee : come forth from Hell ... sooooooon ! »
I wonder how your very abstract notions of « online community » and « a lot of people » would really translate in very concrete quantities of expansion-units sold. It's merely stating the obvious to declare that Stardock & Ironclad are businesses that have operating expenses to cover (such as employee salaries) and profits to make. Consequently, Ironclad & Stardock will design, develop & produce an expansion that will maximize sales, and attempt to widen their customer s
The (very soon) upcoming patch 1.04 is projected to fix the locked-teams-unlocked-upon-reload bug. Like the previous poster mentioned, it is a bug.
I don't work at all ... I'm a French Literature student, and I have no classes to go to on Wednesdays. Since 1.04 has not yet been released, I'll pass the time with the old Birth of the Federation TBS/4X game (I very recently found a patch to make it work with XP.) What I really should be doing this afternoon is begin to compose a planning synopsis for my final term paper for the « Literature of Utopia » course.
The AI cheats in the sense that it has ESP, but that's pretty much true of all computer AIs in every game.
I wonder if such is the case with the non-unfair A.I.s in SINS. I haven't seen any official info confirming or denying that the comps see the whole map at all times. Why would they send scouts if they did see the whole map from the start ?! SINS is not like Heroes of Might & Magic : there are no goodies & treasures lying around

You start by selecting a resolution that is the « native » one for your monitor. My 19-inch widescreen has an ideal rez of 1440 X 900. I wouldn't try to go beyond that. If then, you perceive that your framerates are not always acceptable, you dial down your resolution (and/or dial down certain visual options)... because it might mean that your videocard is not powerful enough to sustain SINS at the monitor's ideal resolution and/or sustain certain graphical options (such as 4X
I play in a 1360 X 768 window, with a 1440 X 900 desktop rez in the background. The latter is my monitor's ideal resolution : it's a 19-inch widescreen. To answer your question : 1. It is better to select a game resolution that is nearest to your monitor's « native » (ideal) resolution ; 2. But the key is your videocard : it must be powerful enough to process the graphical info on your screen at an acceptable framerate ; 3. Also, one has to test the
I don't think the devs have ever said exactly how it changes.
They were asked, a few weeks ago, in a repeated manner, what makes the « hard » A.I. better than the « normal » A.I., and the latter better than the « easy » A.I., and they never gave any precise answer. A representative from Stardock merely stated, in the abstract, that the better levels of A.I. had access to more « routines » and « sub-routines » in their computational reasoning -- which is
Perhaps that is what he meant ... but what he has effectively written is very clear : « AI is likely to gang up on the leading player in Easy or Normal. » And this represents a flagrant contradiction with a recent post by Blair Fraser : « However, 1.04 will introduce the idea that on easy and normal difficulties the AI will be less likely to team up against the dominate player » I suspect that they (= people at Ironclad & St
On this Monday, at noon, the possible (major) typo in the 1.04 Preview still is there : Will the A.I. gang-up more on the leading player, at easy & normal, or will it gang-up less ? (See post #178 to observe the obvious contradiction, on that, between Stardock & Ironclad.)
Excerpt from post #38, by Mettra :
To make a laser (we'll use this as an easy example) diverge from its path significantly enough that it would actually veer off and miss a target (we'll say veer off 60 degrees or so) would require an ENORMOUS bending of space. Even the gravitational field of our sun only bends light by (damned if I can remember this correctly) only 1/30th of a single degree. So you'd need a gravitational field or 'bending' of 1800 suns. Ev
I do wish the minidump error would contain a bit more info on what may have caused the problem, but as long as ironclad has some idea of whats causing them in the majority of users, thats good enough for me.
If you read the complete reply #19, written by Blair Fraser of Ironclad and referenced in my previous post, you get the idea that minidumps are caused by the following : 1. either modded data that one of the players has (not Ironclad's fault) 2. either

For reference purposes only -- not a direct reply to the OP >> 1) Blair Fraser of Ironclad (on 27 March) :
I don't think everyone understands what minidumps are. It is not a specific problem, but rather a minidump is really a capture of the state of the game when the crash occured. It could be caused any number of different crashes. Brilliant suggestion, Edix ! Ironclad can track down « bugs » better if it obtains precise & detailed info. Ideally : 1. The mini-dump 2. The computer's DX Diagnostic text-file 3a. A saved game very near the crash point + A description of what next happened 3b. and/or a description of what the gamer was doing in the seconds before the crash 4. The presence, or not, of a mod (because if a mod is employed ... well, it cannot be Ironclad's responsibilit
I'm glad we could identify the source of your problem. It happened to me, before someone told me it was a bug : I reloaded a save game, and my ally started to offer missions that I did not care to accomplish in time. He gradually lost confidence in me and eventually started to attack -- to my great surprise ! I then realized that the teams had mysteriously unlocked. I think it was Annatar11 who informed me, on the forum, that is was a bug -- soon fixed with pat
