Nono, your example was great at explaining the concept. Throw too many ideas in there at once and it gets too confusing. Variable mitigation gains based on weapon power is just another layer over the top of it.... and it looks like schem had the same idea while I was typing my post lol
Schem, I mean a REAL long time ago. As in December-05-on-the-Chronos-boards long ago. I know (and stated) that they don't currently orbit. And Paradoxnt: It seems realistic for each solar system to be on a roughly 2D plane. Look at our own solar system. But that doesn't mean that the stars can't be scattered 3-dimensionally or that all of the systems have to be on the same 2D plane. There can still be plenty of 3D goodness with solar systems on a 2D plane.
Also, the % gain in mitigation should probably be proportional to the power of the weapon hit that caused it. In Paradoxnt's example it was a fixed 25%, which is fine for conceptualizing the mitigation gain mechanics. But in actual practice some dolt strafing in his interceptor should not provoke the same shield response as taking a hit from the main gauss cannon of a Kol battleship.
Also, planets and asteroids should slowly orbit their stars as the game progresses. This would provide fun navigational challenges as well as balance multiplayer starting positions more fairly. I advocated the idea but no go. Didn't they orbit at one point? I thought there was a discussion long long ago about how planets orbit. On your way IN the effect would be pretty much the same as if it was just consumed: there is a portion of the AM that you cannot use for a period of time (recharge). The best use I can see for them is as a staging point. Say you have to jump to another system (far away). If you jumped straight to an enemy planet then your AM reserves are going to be low from the long phase-jump. you could instead jump to the star first, rapidly recharge your AM, and then make the relatively short jump to an enemy planet. Also a good place to regroup. Say you are attacking an enemy planet and it isn't going so well. You could beat a hasty retreat to the star, recharg

I agree with Emperor. Homeworld is a great game. We at HG love Homeworld. Any similarities between the two games are viewed as GOOD things, not attempts at ripping Homeworld off. We would like nothing more than for Sins to be everything that HW is and so much more.

I guess the way that the tester works is that fat has very low electrical resistance vs. muscle and muscle has low electrical resistance vs. bone. It just runs the electrical resistance that it records through an algorithm (i have no idea what) with your height and weight and spits out the BMI. I guess my electrical resistance was so high compared with my height and weight that I was outside of the range of its results so it just said "error." Not that I give it much stock. I'm a healthy guy...

Lets say there are 3 bodies: A, B, and C(planets, asteroids, stars, whatever) in syzygy and you want to get from A to C. Will the fact that B is in between A and C cause you to have to stop at B, travel around it, then continue on to C? Or go to some third point D in order to go around B? Or can you magically travel through B in phase space? It seems to me that you should not be able to travel through B
