If mal had his own stardock account and you logged into it and paid up for him then that could work. Only hitch I can foresee is if the billing address had to match the delivery address (sites often do this to prevent credit card fraud) if he wants a box copy too. But who knows, maybe it will be out in time for you to bring it to him at Soban Fest. But you'd better wait for final word on that from the stardock people <img src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Tongue.gif" bord

I agree, not having a disconnect counted as a loss is just begging for exploitation. If the game is going badly for you, you can simply unplug your phone line for a minute and it would be like the game never happened. The others have explained great ways to deal with this. Another idea is to give the host the option of whether or not to count a disconnect as a loss or just ignore it. This would obviously work on the honor system but it's better than just automatically deciding what to d

Light can't have mass because relativity says that to accelerate any amount of mass to the speed of light would require an infinite amount of energy... and since light only goes the speed of light, well, you get the idea. Have you read "A Brief History of Time" by Stephen Hawking? I can't remember if that topic is explicitly addressed in there but that is a great book for discussions of that kind of physics.

then where would you send things to? how do you initiate scanning? Typically they can be found orbiting around stars. Ya know, those bright points of light up in the sky. And if you try to tell me that stars are hard to find then I'm going to somehow figure out a way to reach through the internet and smack you. They could (maybe) take th

I think that it is reasonable to assume that you know the locations of all the planets in a system that you have a presence in. I mean really, how hard is a planet to find? They're big, round, and reflect sunlight. Earthbound astronomers found this solar system's planets by just looking up and noticing that some of the "stars" moved from night to night. Now, whether or not you know the location of the planets in solar systems that you haven't been to is another issue. Maybe you DO know

Hopefully an actually talented group of people (please, if you don't know what you're doing, don't try this!) will create a Battlestar Galactica modification that changes the focus of the game from building a vast empire into guiding a limited fleet through the galaxies, making resupply stops to suitable planets discovered, avoiding conflict when necessary, risking jumps t

Good grief! What a mess. First the thing wouldn't connect, then I finally start to connect and it crashes. Restart, connect but am immediately kicked. Finally get in a game and the thing is jerky as hell, the camera feels upsidedown and backwards, my ships kept hauling serious butt.... but sideways, one of my ships spent the better part of the game trapped in the middle of the island (yes, IN the island), then the thing freezes. Had to go for a hard boot. *shakes head in dismay

Well, ships can be upgraded through experience. You choose special abilities for the ships as they progress through experience or by training. You also get to customize the ratios of the types of fighters each cap ship produces. To be honest, in a real time environment, I think that the last thing you want to be doing is sitting there using up your time heavily customizing your ships. The process needs to be quick and simple.

Very nice. Makes you wonder what's just off-screen.

But if you start having limited communications as a part of gameplay then that would allow players to easily "cheat" by using a 3rd party voice program such as teamspeak.

The JiTirska Scout is a fighter class vessel? I don't think so. It probably just uses up antimatter like any of the other special abilities and has a "recharge" time so that you can do it only, say, once every 45 seconds.

The first one I ever encountered was a "what is wrong with this picture?" It was a picture in a seemingly normal house but something was supposedly wrong with it. So you're staring at it looking closer and closer for something wrong.... then bam! It switches real fast to some ghoulish image and screams. Nothing fancy, was just on a 30 second or so timer (this was years ago, before flash and other more interactive stuff became common). Got me good.

Sweetness! Always did like the ghost busters.

Played the demo and hated it. And I don't see the similarity between it and Sins that you mentioned. They have nothing in common except that they are both set in space.

i see an unidentified flying object above it towards the other side of the planets orbit. is that a crate where i can open it and see if it has a blaster photon in it? Yea, I noticed it too. Looks kinda irregularly shaped. Maybe an asteroid?

drr.... in English that works out to: Gunships kill interceptors Interceptors kill bombers and bombers kill cap ships/orbital structures/anything big and slow enough to hit
