I just did a quick search for DDS and GIMP and stumbled upon this site: http://eliteforce2.filefront.com/file/DDS_Converter;29412#Download I don't approve of, or disapprove of this program. I've never tried it.

I think there is a free program called GIMP that has similar functionality. Give that one a shot.

You can do several things, depending on how ambitious you area :D a) start a new game b) change the menu options to show dark/colored skyboxes c) you can bring one of the skybox graphic files (dds) into a graphic program and alter the color to whatever you like than save it out again.
