Slimp - that sounds like a cool setup. You doing it with RD via your VPN? In my experience, firewall software and such tend to be the culprits on this kind of thing.
Yeah...RDP through Hamachi to my home PC. It is wonderful! The catch is I've remoted in and updated to new beta versions/patches several times before, without any gotchas! I'm sure you guys are right and it's one of those WTF errors. I'll get it figured out! Thanks! <br
Well that's two posts now in this thread saying "I know it was shot down before, but maybe making another post will change their minds" including the op.
Threes a charm, shall I... ;-p
Most of those wouldn't work too terribly terribly well in an RTS, Slimp (alas).
HEHE! But what RTS are you playing? Sins is a RT4X!!!! ;-p Sorry to go off-topic... Oh yeah, Megaships...I wouldn't complain if there were some!
I had an idea about this a little while ago and posted it here "https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.com/?aid=174535#1438217" Ya know how some games have a technology victory? Like in gal civ 2 where you reserch along a certain line and then you win? or in some games you build somthing and defend it for a certain amount of time and then you win, etc... Well instead of having a tech victory where you just win, you get a mega ship like what was posted above
I just had to pick on Ron for thrashing pretty much every idea that's posted lately.. Bah, not every idea. Just the really stupid and / or rehashed ones. (planet killers...) Mega ships / planet killers aren't going to happen -- do you really think otherwise? What I think is irrelevant. What is relevant is that all the new peop

If they ever add moons for real (expansion?!?!?!, we should be able to destroy them, with a megaship. The resulting explosion should be spectacular and cause tremendous splash damage. This would obviously have to be a late game research ability to add to the megaship...I foresee this being a "tide of the battle" changer. Imagine sneaking into your enemies home planet (one who has just about beaten you down to pulp) and blow their moon sky high, wiping out half of his fleet. Then usin

It cracks me up to no end, reading posts from non-Beta testers, getting upset about the minimal z-axis usage, phase lanes instead of open space, and lack of grav-well FoW (e.g. you can't "see" (inside the grav-well) unexplored planets and/or who knows what a planet is doing if you haven't "scouted" it in a while!). Having been in the Beta from the beginning, I can honestly say, you would NOT want those features on top of everything else. The micro-management involved would be astronomic
@ Slimpinto No need for corrections. I use only enterprise-level routers/firewalls myself (even at home), so I got my "relaxed" nomenclature from a SOHO-type router (the D-Link Gamer Lounge series) You'll find the afore-mentioned router describing its "NAT-structure" exactly the way I've described it above. As in my guide, I have chosen to "keep-it-simple" in order to not needlessly complicate explanations. There aren't that many SOHO-level routers out there that

Not to be a stickler or anything, but I've never heard those terms you used for NAT before. Now I know it's just semantics at this point and with naming conventions being what they are in the IT world, you're inevitably going to have some jerk correct you (Guess that's me...Hi!) Coming from a Cisco background, we use the terms Static, Dynamic, and Overload to describe the differing NAT types. Most home user routers (Linksys, D-Link, etc...) use PAT (Port Address Translation, a form of

This has to be the best post...ever! You guys need to have a seminar for how to develop games and market it to those Developers (esp. those controlled by EA/Sierra/Vivendi/etc...). *** looks for Major Award, labels it "Fragile" (pronounced Fra - gee - lee... must be Italian! Note the movie reference HEHE), and ships it off to IC! ***

OK...I know you're only supposed to do one fix at a time, but I upgraded to the lastest nvidia drivers (162.18) and reinstalled my X-Fi drivers (just in case) AND instead of installing SDC and SoaSE to my RAIDed drives, I just used the defaults. It all now works fine...What exactly is the fix...dunno! ooops!

Ah, I thought since you made it to the singleplayer game setup screen you could make it to the graphics screen. In that case, you need to modify the user.setting file in one of the following directories: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Vista: C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire\ You can open it with notepad and you want to change ISW

You can switch to windowed mode in the options -> graphics screen. Therein lies the problem, I can't get to any of those features/options before the lock-up occurs!

Try playing in windowed mode, there is likely an assert. OK, I presume there's a way to add a switch to the shortcut to do this listed on the forum somewhere? I'll look for it. System Specs? A8N SLI Athlon 64 4000+ 2GB OCZ DDR400 Dual eVGA 6800GT's in SLI mode X-Fi base model lots of HDD space (nVidia RAID) latest drivers, etc... Played the game maxxed out fine al
