OK...how many BCs should one build per planet/colony? I put one in each of mine, but in my current game the AI factions are building 24+ per planet/colony? Is this normal?

@Slim - We are not arguing a 100% free travel system, not that it it would really increase the defensive aspect of the game from a tactical or strategic viewpoint anyway. We are simply proposing free system travel and lane travel between different stars. The point you keep arguing about the nightmare of defenses everywhere -etc... is untenable from a military perspective and simply not economically feasible under the current game model. S

Let's imagine for a second they acutally implemented 1Spartan's (and others) suggestion(s)... I can envision entire galaxies with thousdands of ships ending up everywhere on the map. They'll look like a bunch of rainbow, sprinkled donut holes! I suspect this is why the game is the way it is now... Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that your thinking of a completely open jump system where you can move anywhere in the galaxy.

Shoot I loose ships all the time given I'm almost always zoomed taking in the view. I just drag a box or an area and any ships in it highlight them I give them a rally point - simple and already in the system. D'oh...keep forgetting about the rally point feature! Hey, didn't I tell you guys I'm not a tatical gaming genius already? HEHE! I need to try using rally points, but that still requires me having to "set" it, thus another thing to keep track of

Maybe it makes sense to split up the current grav well/space lane system? What I mean is having an inner grav well (IGW), for placement of fixed orbit platforms (maybe allow for actual orbiting structures) and an outer grav well (OGW - much larger than current one used) used for combat situations. If the IGW suggestion is implemented, ships can still attack the orbiting structures, but if they don't "enter orbit" they won't be as effective trying to knock them out. Since orbiting objects obvious

Let's imagine for a second they acutally implemented 1Spartan's (and others) suggestion(s). How will you keep track of EVERY ship? I've noticed with some of my "grouped" fleets, that ships still go after the more appropriate target, thus end up in random parts of the grav well. If you were to setup a game with the max AIs (and/or humans), planets, resources, etc...I can envision entire galaxies with thousdands of ships ending up everywhere on the map. They'll look like a bunch of rainbow, sprink

For these results to be consistent, you need to set up consistent situations. Here's how: 1. Tell everyone which specs they should post - graphics card, processor, RAM, operating system, driver versions, and anything else important. Sisoft Sandra XI Lite (free for personal use) works nicely and can create small text reports. Along with dxdiag and driver versions for video and sound, we can make an extremely comprehensive report for all

SoaSE is in the May 2007 issue of Games for Windows Magazine! There is Vasari information I've never heard mentioned before regarding gravity wells! Some secrets about all ships moving faster in the gravity well! <IMG src="http://images.stardock.com/gc2/T_DL/smiles/Congrats.gif" onload=setImageSize_onLoad(650,this); align=ab

AI commands will eventually be given by using the ping button. Hey Blair...About what percentage of total gameplay/functionality do we have at the moment? I get the impression based on other comments by you and Yarlen, that we have quite a bit more to see still. I assume (hopefully) we'll get to see more during Beta 2?

Oh... Other useful information would be Windows updates and how "fresh" your current Windows install is. A bloated registry can cause significant performance issues. You never know...someone may have the same hardware as you and have a bug that you don't have. Once hardware failure is ruled out, then software revisions/version factor in.

Note: I only listed my video drivers as they are the most important drivers for the game. I would list my other drivers but I dont see a need for them. For those times when sound problems occur, those drivers may be relevant! I agree that the rest of the system drivers may be irrelevant, although the systen BIOS (you have listed) and chipset versions may be helpful as well.

But the results, cant be compared from different patch versions, as the saves cant be 100% the same. True...so when a new patch comes out, we get new saved games for that patch and we all re-run the test. I see this as an on-going event. I think "beta tester" implies we all need to work a little, even though we paid for the priviledge. HEHE!

The problem is just that the save will be needed to change everytime theres a new patch I think the IC boys could provide us with the appropriate saved games (they probably have hundreds each). I doubt it would be hard for them to make these, even for each patch! Let them create the baseline they want to see tested.

Sounds good to me. I suggest you start the thread, since it's your idea. Hey it's an "open source" idea. You just made it more valuable. I was thinking Kryo can pin a new thread on this subject (taking all of our ideas) and then we can run with it. Besides, I'm better at inception than execution! LOL!

Hey All... Since the MAIN purpose of this beta is for IC to verify soase will run on a wide variety of PC hardware, shouldn't there be a thread with detailed spec's of our current (not your fantasy PC!) rigs (including driver versions)? Then trying various resolutions record frame rates, using your favorite fps counter (like fraps). I think we should also give them min, max, and/or averages during large battles and when just exploring a new world with a small fleets. <br

1) weird how fleets come into your home planet blast most of your ships then leave then continue to send trade ships in only to be blasted by my remaining capital ship as they enter system to go to trade port( i would have thought once there fleet attacks trade would cease until peace is renegotiated). I agree, ties in with response to diplomacy below 2)space feel - darker star ridden sky

The red floating globes over ships which appear after a research field - they look ridiculous , please consider removing them . Can you please provide a screenshot. Thanks Seen here in this thread as well...on my line of cap ships: https://forums.sinsofasolarempire.

There is definitely going to be a need for an improved auto management for ship special abilities. We can't manually manage 30 capital ships abilities during a battle, so we will need to trust the AI to do a decent job. Maybe Ironclad will give us some options on auto use so ships can be trusted to not screw up too badly with their special abilities. What? You can't micro-manage that many ships??? J/K<b

Is there an easier way to locate your LEV (building frigate) than trying to zoom in on it or clicking on each pip for each planet in the empire tree? Sorry if already asked, as I'm not only a n00b gamer but also a lazy forum searcher. why bother? just click the planet, it brings up the build optio

A movie would show this better, but the space lanes pulse in and out of some of my planet's grav wells, is this expected? It kind of bothers me a little, as it distracts me, as I think an emeny is phase jumping in...What is the significance of the differing colors? <img src="http://i
